You have wrought an absolutely incredible piece here Denzel. The sense of vagrancy, of hope in the face of adversity, light amidst despair, courage in spite of woe - it is all just terribly, painfully powerful. It makes me wish all the more that I could make out the titles on those books. The flora and fauna (of skeletal or fuzzy comportment) and funga are very much alive, pulsing with life as the glow of bright waters plays upon all surfaces: but I'll speak more to your composition in a bit. The geology of the cavern formations is sound, and the structures here are solid and real, and the mixture of technology and simplicity very pure, steampunkish even. I am made to wonder where our subject has been, and where he is going; what the doll is for, and what game sits inserted in his GameBoy; what was his last meal, and where will he get his next. There is a distinct feeling that the world is not whole, but stitched together, ever at risk of being riven and broken, in slow attritional fashion, rather than calamitously sudden. I feel it's likely I'll find hidden forms in the contours of this world, and shapes will appear unbidden upon lengthier inspection. But your composition is quite something in and of itself, and contributing to the threat of global schism is its bilateral contrast, rending the piece into two opposing halves. You have also taken thorough account of your diffusive primary light source, and there is no optical aspect that confuses the wary eye. And the fuzziness of the towel is simply Elysian. I would in fact have scored this a perfect five stars in every category except that I am confused by our subjects hands, something with which I likewise struggle in my art at times, and if I must choose I would consider anatomical curiosities to be subsumed under technique. Unrelatedly, I am very curious to know the nature of the signal being filtered or synthesized and displayed on the monitor over yonder, and the amalgamated patch of chorally tube substrate in the middle of the foreground field. At any rate, it is all very unique and emergent. You have a piece here I think you ought to be very proud of Denzel. Bravo.
