I like all of them. :XD: If I had to choose, I'd go for the purple cave one. I think it's the one I'd most likely pick up from a book shop. Bearing in mind I haven't read FOP yet, the purple cave one has a more fantasy-esque air (by that, I don't mean elves and things, but the sort of plot that goes with fantasy... it might be the cave :XD: ), the orange one seems more of a thriller/dark novel, possibly horror, but I'm leaning more towards thriller. :XD: And the flamebow one is one I'd definitely pick up to look at the blurb - I'd have no idea about what kind of book it'd be though. My first guess would be sci-fi. :XD:

Hope that helps. :)

Your perspectives on each cover were very helpful. Thank you... you pretty much nailed the feel we were going for with the purple cave and flamebow. The thriller/horror feel is what I want to avoid, so although I love it, the orange cover will be put into storage for use possibly on book 2, but with a different color scheme. That book features a firestarter so it would be much more appropriate there.

Awesome, I'm glad I could help. :3

Yeah, a book with a firestarter would be much more suited to the orange cover, I think. :3

Have another :llama:, thanks for featuring Ann! Orange and black pop of the shelf, there's no denying that. I think the purple cave one has a bit of a 70s vibe to it. The rainbow one isn't bad, but it doesn't do it for me. The purple flame came out after I had voted, it looks a little more mystical than the straight up orange flame.

Either way... she's :onfire:!!!

Yuck yuck yuck. I was all for the orange flame girl, with purple cave a close second. Now I'm thinking that my target audience (chickletts 13-20) may know best. They are almost unanimously in favor of purple girl in the cave.

Ok, I really do love the fire one. From someone who has seen all the heavily edited sides of Dina, I just think it fits her. And she was basically "born" in fire and it shaped and tainted everything that comes afterward. And then she's really reborn by fire so it seems to fit for me. Plus I think it's beautifully done. HOWEVER I get all the Firestarter/ Carrie comments. No one wants to be a cliche or passed up because they think the book is a big been there done that. And it probably doesn't really fit with the overall tone of the book itself.

I think of the remaining two, my favorite is the violet one. It makes me think of Fellowship in a non symbolic way. It feels Fellowshipy if that makes sense. I see the cave leading out and her childlike but not so innocent face and it seems to really mesh. I love the symbolism behind the multicolored one but it doesn't hit me on the same level as the cave one.

Your opinion is very valuable to me, as you know. And I find myself thinking the same things as I view them side by side. Perhaps we can repurpose the nonwinners for books 2 and 3. After all, Fellowship Lost DOES feature a firestarter. Hmmm...

Of those choices there, I would say the blueish one fits the best. But none of those covers fits the feeling I have for your stories. I'm not sure how to explain that at all...

The multicoloured cover is that: multicoloured. And while the colours are somewhat related to the novel, they kind of look misfitting to me... to much asking for attention and wanting to be all important. The fire seems to be taking over the girl, but I can't remember fire to be that important for the story (sure, there is that important blast at the beginning and at the end, but what with all the time in between? No, fire, being hot, is absolutely not the element I'd choose for this novel. Things seem to be more calculating and cold.). And with this cover, the girl just doesn't feel important at all. It's just a pair of eyes drowned in fire and colour.
It would most certainly not be a book I'd pick up at a book store, I seldom go for covers that have colour screaming at me from a black background.

The orange fire cover, I think is missleading. It emphasizes the colour orange because of that black background. But where in the book is orange important? Plus, it makes me think of a girl going beserk and going on amok, blowing everything up. The name kind of implies she would blow everything up with her mind or her being totally nuts with the book taking place in a psychiatry and loving to play with fire. And it makes the girl look "witch", I don't know how to explain that better.
Plus, it looks as if it's trying too much to get attention which makes it looking cheap.

The blueish/violet cover fits best in my opinion, because it first fits Dina's colourscheme and the colourscheme of the underground world. The only thing missing is the black of the tiles. But those weird shadows above the girls shoulder are ... weird. Not there enough to make sense, but there too much to be missed.
This cover is the one that makes it feel cold and calculated, as well as chaotic (those stones) and as if she was turning her back onto the light.

But weirdly, as I've been staring at the three thumbs next to each other, it was the orange one I had the biggest urge to pick up.
I get the feeling I should go to a bookstore again and figure out what kind of book attracts me. The last time I was in one was in February.
(And that's the good thing about online reading: there is no cover to it.)

I am thrilled with your thoughtful analyses. I have the same feelings about all of these. And some of what you've said about the flame girl cover has been said by others, so while I do think it would leap off the shelf visually, perhaps that would not be a good thing. And it is misleading. The story does not include Dina or Anne or any character bursting into flame. Interestingly, the blue/purple cover was our first design and the one I find myself drawn back to now that all the covers can be viewed side-byside. But we shall see. Let me know what happens at the bookstore. That could be helpful information. Thank you so much.

I'm sorry I took so long to go to a bookshop. I had a little stress back at the end of April and kind of didn't feel like going to shops afterwards.
Anyway, I went yesterday and never got past this book: [link]
(Well, I did go further into the bookstore once they told me that they had a reading corner... but most of the other books were either too plain, too white&red or with covers that seemed far too chaotic.)

The cover you choose looks good and should bring you some readers!

I'm definitely for the more lightly colored one. The image is clear, and it gives a sort of mystery to it with the background. That being said, I think the orange one looks too... angry? It reminds me a little too much of Johnny in the Fantastic Four. The striped one is a bit too busy, and a little odd colored.
I know they say don't judge a book by it's cover, but I wouldn't buy the multi-colored one if I just saw it on the shelf. The orange one I would contemplate, but the light colored one I would pick up and look at BECAUSE of the cover.

I hope it helps!!!

I like the light blue-ish colored one for the colors and the girl's eyes, but I also like the fiery, glowy feel of the orange one. I feel like the one with the stripes is too....busy.

i like the second, the light one the most. the third looks too much like stephen king's carrie and in the first there is, in my opinion, just too much. the light one has a very interesting, kind of alien feeling to it. just as (positively) alien as phsychics would seem to us 'normal people'

so great to see that the fellowship is going to be published!!!!!!

Hmm. *thinks hard* The fire one is very dark. A woman on fire makes me think of horror. The multicolored one makes it hard to see that there's a person behind the color. The pastel stands out because it's simple, the woman's face is right there looking out at me. Maybe it adds an air of mystery to her that the other two covers lack for me.
