Edward Scissorhands by demonrobber Edward Scissorhands by demonrobber
Edward just wanted to be part of society but outsiders are sometimes not accepted and are left to fend for themselves.

The artwork is also called Edward Scissorhands by daekazu. Here is a link to the artwork:

He may look aggressive but he has a heart of gold. He will always be special. He made me think twice about people who are different.

Those who are different often have the kindest hearts. They understand how it feels to be treated unfairly. Edward Scissorhands is definitely an inspiration. Thanks.

This is lovely! It reminds me of watching the film for the first time. And the image/poem pairing is really fantastic.

One thing I'm curious about, though: are you from the UK? The use of "lad" seems a bit unusual(?), given the setting. In any case, excellent job!

I am pleased you like it. I am from the UK. Now you mention it, the word lad is not exactly American. I have wanted to write about Edward Scissorhands for a long time but I could not find the rigght words. I hope I did a good job. Thanks.

Ah, that explains it! It's always interesting to see regional differences in writing - keeps things interesting. Well, I'm terrible at writing so I'm not the best critic, but I think you captured the dark, yet lighthearted feel and did an overall fantastic job :)

I have good memories too. Part of the 80's and the magic of Tim Burton. He has a wonderful imagination. Was this the first film he did with Johnny Depp? A fantastic film.

I agree with you. Was, and still is, an amazing film. I known that this was their first film together. Even so, they've worked in 7 more films...

Thank you. I hope my poem did the film justice. I tried to catch that modern fairytale feel. It is both beautiful and sad.

Yes it did. :) I only have one suggestion to make when writing
concrete poetry if I may?

Please go ahead. I hope you are not going to be too critical. I welcome helpful suggestions.

No, not at all. I was just going to suggest that when
you write each line, if you try to use the same amount of syllables per line, the poem will flow much more smoothly. It rhymes, yes, but the number of syllables in each line is different. Do you see what I mean?

I try to use as many "filler words" as needed when I write my poetry, unless it isn't going to be "concrete".
(no rhymes, very freeform) and that always makes for a smoother read. :)

I could show you how I would have written your poem if you don't mind. It's ok if you do though.

Please send me a note with the poem included. I don't normally use rhyme in my poetry. I have only just started again. It can be difficult. I know some people like my rhymes but I know I can still improve.

Will do. :) Yes writing rhymes is difficult because it often takes away from feelings attached to the work.
I would say that a majority of the freeform I read has this strange and abstract "gut one in the feels" kind of tone to it that rhymes can take away from.

It's difficult to explain.

I have a job interview today and afterward I'll see what I can do for you. :)

I hope the job interview goes well.

I know what you mean about free verse. It is easier to express greater detail and emotion than using rhyme which limits what words you can use.

I look forward to reading your re-working of the poem.

I love the movie! The idea of an unfinished creation with a gentle & kind nature,
but also with cold & sharp appendages is interesting as it is different. Many Black Hearts

I totally agree. Edward has a kind nature but the scissors add a darker side and can be quite dangerous. It ia also about trying to fit in, being an outsider and doing your best to be accepted. I love the film.
