Greetings my little Implings!
I know its been like 2 years since I've last talked about this theory, but due to the events of the last video (specifically the last few minutes) I just had to bring this up. But before we do that...do you guys remember Pride!Roman?
For those of you who have recently joined the fandom n' or don't know what I'm talking about, Pride!Roman was a fanon depiction of Roman's dark side persona. W/ the idea that if Roman were to ever join the dark sides, he would change his side title from Fanciful Thoughts to Pride. Reason being, was because this idea came after the episode "Crofters the Musical" came out. An episode that I believe was the first handed the inner struggles of Roman, that being his underlying insecurities. Which would soon lead to a series of events that would show those exact insecurities manifesting n' growing within each new episode. So because of this, fans have decided because of Roman's insecurities n' the fact that he perceives himself as an overly confident guy, that he would concert himself into what he has been lacking.Pride...or at least that's what I think what happen, idk, but you get the gist of what I'm saying. In short Pride!Roman was a very popular thing in the community, I too had dabble myself in the revelry w/ some fanart, n' even discussed if how Pride!Roman could become a reality. But as time went on the idea that Roman would become something that he resents has been just a fun little hc, a concept that some fanders took part of n' has since died out...until now.
Now, when I first touched upon this theory, originally I thought that Janus would be the reason for Roman's conversion because of his insecurities. But after the release of the latest episode, I had it all wrong. It's actually in reverse...let me explain. Each of the sides (aside from pink n' orange) have one way or another contributed into the progression of Roman's insecurities, wether intentional or not, n' its those insecurities that will lead Roman to his downfall n' turn over to the dark side. In order to get a better understanding, we need to dissect n' analyse how each side, in chronological order, took part in the building process of Roman's self doubt, starting w/ Virgil.
Now there's really not much to say for Virgil. The only thing I can think if is him getting in the way of Roman's hopes n' dreams, cause Roman did say in AAp1 that the only thing that gets in the way of him, as a dreamer, is fear. Idk that's all I can think of for Virgil's part, that n' the fact that now that there buddy buddy, Roman tries his best to be nice to him but ends up failing most of the time, n that could be another reason of how Virgil is involved.
Next up is Logan who has shown to have a major impact when it comes to the progressive of Roman's lack of self worth. In WDWGOOBITM, Logan shows a pie chart of how Thomas should spend his day, while most of the sections seem reasonable, the section for what percent Logan suggest that Thomas should spend on his hopes n' dreams is like 0.5%. N' according to YouTuber/fellow Fander PrinceAlex said, that 0.5 equals to 7 minutes of the day, n' to top it all off apparently Logan's suggest to Thomas that he should spend 23 minutes on brushing his teeth...bruh. Like I get dental hygiene is important but c'mon , no one takes that long to brush their teeth. Could've at least swapped the 2 around ya know what saying? N' that just scratching the surface cause in LNTAO, Logan pelted Roman w/ a notecard ,albeit a puppet version of him, n' when Roman apologises to him, cause he did made Logan upset to throw said notecard...Logan doesn't actually forgave him, all he said was "That's, very kinds of you Roman." N' that's it. Not to mention the fact that Roman just wants Logan's approval for his ideas, n' even though it has been resolved I highly doubt that Roman's gonna simply get over it. N' of course in DWIT after Roman insulted Logan, he give I'm of the most sincerest apologies only to quickly get glossed over as the attention focuses back on to Thomas, not to mention the fact that we have yet to know what the realization was that Roman referred to in exact same episode.
Then we have Patton who even though hasn't done anything visibly to Roman that could lower his self worth, has been hinted that he's the reason for Roman's black n' white perception. Many fanders, including myself, have drawn into the conclusion that Patton was the reason for the split, n' why I highly doubt it was intentional, that doesn't deny the fact that Patton has a ton of control over Thomas's creative thinking. Since he is morality at his core, it just makes sense that he not only has control on deciding what's right or wrong in a decision making sense bit also in a creative sense. N' because Patton has such a high standard on what thoughts are allowed, this adds a sense of worry to Roman because he fears of being rejected n' left to rot.
Speaking of, while Remus similarly hasn't done anything to Roman, however we all know how Roman views his brother, n' its not a positive one. He compares his brother as a funhouse mirror that shows you who you don't wanna be, so it shows how desperate Roman doesn't wanna be associated w/ him because of the fact that Remus is perceived as the "evil" twin. Which like I said, adds more pressure for him to be the best, to come up w/ original ideas, to be the "good" twin.
N' of course the final nail in the coffin, Janus. Now ever since he first appeared Jan has used Roman for his own self, from using him to act out certain scenarios in order to show Thomas the many ways of lying, to making him the judge in SvS as a way to make Thomas go to the callback. So yeah, Roman is essentially the go to side for Janus, which leads to the last minutes of POF;SvS2. Janus revealed his name as a way of displaying his trustworthiness, n' Roman laughs at, which is the cause of the fact Roman still holds resentment towards Janus for using him, so even saying his name doesn't removed the fact that he played Ro like a fiddle. After which Janus compares Ro to Remus by saying if it he didn't have a mustache he would know who the "evil" twin was, which may I remind you, is something Roman desperately tries not to do. N' what even stings more, is when Roman questions if he's still Thomas's hero, when Thomas said yes, he turns to Janus to see if was lying, Jan nods. N' because Ro still views him as a no good llier, he took it as a "Yes, he is lying", which causes Roman to spas out n' call Janus evil n' saying that Thomas isn't n' he's supposed to be good, which could've been him taking to himself in a way. Cause if Janus is no longer the supposed villain...then who is he?
One last thing I wanna bring up, is the thumbnail from POF:SvS2. In it, you can see 7 character slots, 3 on top (Ro,Pat n' Lo) n' 4 on bottom (Virge,Jan, Rem n' empty slot) W/ the empty slot leading many fanders to believe that it's a subtle tease of an upcoming dark side, but if ya take a closer look you realise that the silhouette is actually similar to Roman's. Now ya may be thinking "well maybe they just used his because it might've been easier to use." But if ya think about it, why did they used a silhouette? Surely they could be just used another method of indicating a locked character screen, like an X mark or even a simple slash. So maybe its a subtle foreshadowing of Roman becoming his dark side persona.
Later Punks!
