Let me start off by saying, I really like this image. I love the idea of it and the emotion behind it. I like the feel and the tension in the composition between these two characters. The whole thing makes me smile, and want to dream up stories for these two.

However, there is one major detail that really jar's me out of this picture and makes me imagine dreadful endings. With the rope that's anchoring the male character to the ship hooked over the same shoulder as the hand that's holding the rope... realistically the rope isn't going to stay on that shoulder not with his body turning outwards and his shoulder dropping down as he reaches out with the other to give the girl the rose. If he isn't going to tumbling off into space the rope would need to cross the body and go over the other shoulder.

Similarly the ships light hanging beneath his feet has a sharp tilt or movement to it. However her hair appears static. The ships light might be moving because of the wind or the ship's movement. If the wind is that strong it would affect other areas of the image. If it's the ship’s movement then it would make his perch even more precarious because the wind is pushing him out of the rope.

Yes, these are fairly small details; however, I've found that it's the details that often get me the most. I can overlook the ships light moving and write it off as ship movement. I really do love the idea and the vision of this image. Keep it up.

I agree with most of this, but the rope is more stable than it appears since it happens to be wrapped around the arm twice and his right foot is over it. Not saying it wouldn't slip off his shoulder though~ (:

Oh, I agree that there is some stability there.

Oh god you're right, the rope is totally going to slip off his shoulder :fear:

originality is def a 10 so i did unfair.

Fair or unfair has nothing to do with whether you agree with the critique or not, just if it has a reasonable basis and judges the work on its own merits without attacking the work or the creator.

To each their own opinion. :)

Sadly dA only lets you give up to five stars.

Great work!
Is there any chance I could use this photo on a book?
I'm writing a book about steampunk jewelry - "How To" or "Do It Yourself" kind of a book.
Besides my own jewelry projects, I would like to illustrate it with some steampunk images like the one above.
