A Forest in His Eyes
| Everybody always wants to know how I got that close to this squirrel. First of all this picture was taken durring the coldest day that year, it was WELL below zero. I am wanting to say 5 or 10 below, and it felt like 20. -_- I didn't stay out long, and that squirrel wasn't moving that fast. I also was not as close as it would appear as I was using my zoom lens. So...slow squirrel+Zoom lens and there you go. |

Turning
I have been asked a lot, where this picture was taken. To tell the truth it is a private lake behind my fathers house. And I use the term lake loosely as it started life as a strip pit. A very big Strip pit. 14 acres to be exact. Like most strip pits when they were finished they flooded it, stocked it with fish and sold the land off. I am of two minds about this practice. While I HATE that they have destroyed woodland habitats they have created more wetlands this way, replacing a lot that has been destroyed. Vultures, herons, and crans now nest in this area.  |

| R. Ciliatus belong to the genus Rhacodactylus which also includes: R. Aurticulatus, R. Chahous, R. Leachianus, R. Sarasinorum, and R. trychtrynchus. This is a group of medium sized geckos that have prehensile tails which act as a second limb, and well developed lamellae to assist in climbing. They are as a whole arboreal geckos. |

Limenitis arthemis astyanax. The Red-spotted Purple species of North American brush-footed butterfly and a subspecies of Limenitis arthemis which includes White Admirals. This group of butterflies mimic the Pipevine swallowtail, which is poisonous, and is generally found at the edge of woodland areas. They are a common species found throughout the eastern United States. |
Girl Goyle
| Rhacodactylus auriculatus. New Caledonian bumpy gecko. They are more commonly called Gargoyle geckos. Their native habitat is found in the southern end of the Island of New Caledonia. Like Cresties they are both nocturnal and arboreal. |

My beautiful girl passed away on Sunday. We got a year and a half longer with her than we probably should. And it was probably one of the best years. I feel like I am a better person for knowing her. Rest well me dear.
