Illumination from Galaxia Palace by Delight046 Illumination from Galaxia Palace by Delight046
Done with 95%Watercolors, 4%Acrylic, and 1%Colored Pencils

So for a different change of pace, I thought I would draw Galactica (Galaxia?) in her manga princess form.  As for the palace, if you look reaaaaaaallly close there are a couple spires in the middle of the galaxy (which is also supposed to be made up from star seeds).

I think for now that this is the last senshi royalty picture I will be doing (unless I feel like doing another one for Luna, Artemis, and Diana). It would require branching off into minor characters that are associated with villians from different Sailor Moon arcs, aaaaand I dont think people really care about the villians getting a castle, and I'm needing to get to other projects. Oh boy, I got ALOT of other projects to get to.

I also finished this other picture at the same time. Yay getting multiple projects done at the same time!

I'm seriously impressed. Because I know to undertake a project that big, it takes a lot of time and effort (and motivation). And not everyone can do it.

So really... thank you for doing this. It's a wonderful project, and once I get a chance to clean up my Favorites a bit, you can be sure I'll be fav'ing every one of these (assuming you don't put them all into one big piece first. XD)

Very nice work! I like the contrast and all the detail:)

What brand of watercolors and acrylics are you using on what kind of paper?

Im using a Stathmore watercolor visual journal. 140lb paper. As for watercolor paints, I use a mix of tubed cotman (winsor newton), and van gogh (i usually get my watercolor paints on clearance). Acrylic, i use grumbacher academy paints. :3

I think its time for ungrade;)  Your skill level is surpassing what your paints and support can handle. I worked at an art supply store for nearly five years back in college and I have recommendations, if you don't mind meYou talk too much!  LOL.

Paints: Holbein Artist Watercolors or QoR (made by Golden Colors) watercolors.  Both Holbein and QoR use synthetic binders instead of gum Arabic found in most traditional watercolors.  QoR uses a synthetic binder called Aquazol, and Holbein uses either Aquazol or something very similar.  The synthetic binders allows for better handling of applications, glazes and blending wet into wet. Both brands have a very rich and bright look to the colors and they don't color shift nearly as bad as Cotmans.  Also, I recommend only buying single pigment paints as they are far easier to mix.

I painted this exclusively with Holbein and QoR watercolors with a little bit of Holbein Acryla Gouache with Kolinsky brushes on Fabriano Softpress Watercolor board (though a did do some touch-ups with an Iwata airbrush): Mg 4893 by Aricson My apologies as my camera dulls out colors and darkens everything and this is an un-enhanced photo.

Give Fabriano Artistico Soft press papers a try too. I love soft press papers, as they are less toothy than a cold press paper, so you can go detail crazy, but its textured just enough to handle washes and glazes beautifully like a cold press paper (unlike hotpress or smooth watercolor paper that color-shifts pigments duller and makes soft blends a nightmare).

Holbein Acryla Gouache is an opaque watercolor like paint that dries like an acrylic.  It is probably the most opaque water-based paint I worked with and it handles like an opaque watercolor.

And the big expense of course is brushes. Kolinsky brushes allow for very subtle dry-brushing, almost like painting with acrylics, the way the brushes wont disrupt layers of watercolor paint and they hold water like no other.

Of course all this material are expensive:(  But all you need really is a warm and cool version of each of the "primary" colors to mix a whole slew of colors with out going bankrupt.  My personal recommendations for paints would be for RED: Pyrolle Orange for a warm red, Quinacridone Red (or Magenta) for a cool red: YELLOW:  Diarlylide Yellow for warm yellow and either Hansa Yellow or Cadmium Lemon for a cool yellow.  BLUE:  Ultramarine Blue for a warm blue and Thalo Blue (green shade) for a cool blue and of course Titanium white and a carbon black.  If you mix colors by their same temperature, you will mix bright, high chroma colors like thalo blue and Hansa Yellow or Cad. Lemon will mix a brilliant green.  Mixing warm and color colors will result in either earthier tones or warm or cool greys.

OK, sorry for the lectureSweating a little... , but I think you will have so much fun letting your talents play with better materials that will result in a greater range of expression:)

It was left un-named. But do I let technicalities stop me? NOPE.

Plus she did have a castle in the Shadow Galactica empire, called "Galactica Palace". Since she turned turned good (and because I can't spell to save my life at times), I changed it to Galaxia palace. wikimoon.org/index.php?title=S…

Plus Galaxia looks so gosh darn pretty after she turned good again, that she deserves a little bit of pretty fanart. XD

I thought that her citadel and her organization/empire were collectively know as the "Shadow Galactica", just like as the "Silver Millennium" was for Queen Serenity.  So, essentually, this 'Castle' is the same as "Hope from Sagittarius Zero Star Nebula".

Honestly I was hoping not to go on a spin of the villains, because....theres a lot of villains. D:

I mean, I could....but it would go into a direction I'd rather not go. I dunno, I'd have to think about it.

Well, the Dead Moon Circus' lair would be hardest, as it's either a circus tent or that flying boat.

The Dark Kingdom had their own Palace ( isshou-ni.net/galleries/bxw/bx… & isshou-ni.net/bxw_places.html & isshou-ni.net/galleries.html ), and was first created as a prison for Queen Metallia by Queen Serenity.

The Black Moon Clan had their homebase/settlement/outpost ( moon-shadow-1985.deviantart.co… ), in the Original Anime also had Dark Crystal Outposts established on both the 20th & 30th Century, & Wiseman had his own Dark Palace ( moon-shadow-1985.deviantart.co… ).

The Death Busters had their Sanctuary ( moon-shadow-1985.deviantart.co… ), where Kaolinite divined visions using the waters of the Fountain housed there, and where the Death Busters housed their Taioron Crystal (Taioron Kurisutaru (タイオロンクリスタル)), in their attempt to turn the Earth into their new home, having run their old home world, located within the Tau Star System, into the ground.

And the Shadow Galactica had their Citadel ( gallery.missdream.org/albums/s… & missdream.org/sailor-moon-scan… & missdream.org/sailor-moon-scan… ), located at the the
Sagittarius Zero Star ( sailormoon.wikia.com/wiki/Sagi… ), which is, itself, located with the Sagittarius Alpha Star.

I hope this all helps.

Well, being nitpicky, very nitpicky and this is also definitely just my opinion since we all draw different.
If it was my picture I'd put more stroke of a purple color in it since I love that sudden contrast, either that or I'd add more different colors to the galaxy stars since I love spectrum. Remember nitpicky and opinionated.

I think the only other thing I noticed was that it looks kind of awkward with the way she is sitting. It looks like she should be sitting against something but I can't see anything there. Still nitpicky, this is me really examining it.

Nah, it's all good.  I appreciate nitpicky feedback. How else am I supposed to grow as an artist? lol

Yeah as I was uploading I was thinking that the black void of space needed some more cool colors (purple or green specifically) to make the warm colors 'pop' forward more. I'll keep that in mind the next project I work on.

As for the leaning against an object that isnt there, the reference I was using *coughballjointeddoll* was leaning against my desk drawer and I didnt really want to incorporate that into my picture. Since this picture is pretty airy, fairy, magical and all....I thought I could get by with just having her hang back in space and defy gravity (physics, laws of nature, etc etc). XD I think under normal circumstances, such as reading out on a lawn or something, I would definitely include whatever object she's leaning against (tree, backpack, etc).

Anyway, you're nitpicky-ness is very much appreciated! Thank you very much. :Adventure Time: 2
