:D hi.

This is a picture that I spent 3 days on. Liek, shwat? That's totally out of character for me. I did all the drawing one day... I started painting it yesturday and after like 16 hours of getting sucked into it (and telling Becka: "Tshaude isn't even IN it yet; wtf, i'm drawing bricks!") and then today until late right now.. I'd say that rounds off my 3 days of work for it. Weird.

Guess I've just been super inspired from some great artists here on DA that do some amazing detailed paintwork.. I wish I were so cool. But yeah, this is just a practice for me.. have I gotten better? Here's a picture of the same char from a year and two months ago: [link] You tell me.

Tshaude is from DELVE which is to me, the Del. Loves.
Many an hour in Photoshop CS

EDIT: closeups: [link]

EDIT2: Edited on 02/17/2007- I had this in my portfolio and it was reviewed by a few really amazing artists (@w@) and I updated it in accordance with what they said. I think it looks ~worlds~ better ;v; Here's the old one, for comparison: [link]

OMG the BACKGROUND, the colour scheme, the mood, the shading. AHG DEL YOU JUST KEEP KICKING SO MUCH ASS. *0* The background is beautiful omg, the brighter lighting that you added to it gives it just so much... atmosphere. Makes it seem really like... spacious. @w@ And the colours you chose are wonderful, ahh~ I also love how you shaded the folds on Tshaude's shirt~ And his HAIR. So flowy. ;u; <3<3

because everyone else is throwing in their 2 cents I figure I will too.

its a fantastic painting, however, assuming the figure in the foreground is normal height, your ground plane doesn't receed far enough away.

you could up-size the background figures, or re-grid the ground squares so that their proportion better reflects the proportional differences from foreground to background.

phew.

Thanks for your comment :3 I'm always up for the crits- but I guess I'm not sure what you mean? I've learned that as long as all characters are cut at the same point by the horizon line (in this case, the hips/waist area) then they're in the same "plane" level of ground. I suppose the squares on the floor are a bit largely cut? But I did want to give it a sense of vastness.

I LOVE the huge sculptures in the background. I would worship there anytime! I know they're sketchy, especially the feet, but they're still impressive from the pose to the form. the people at the base really make their height. and i like how they look like theyr'e just casually talking. how could you talk about dinner in front of that? the levels of the brick behind the statues look a little too incongruous. I know the right one should be lower, but it seems a little too low. the dark shadows against the bright sunlight really looks good. i love the ends of his hair in the ponytail. very realistic. i like his bright blue eyes. the blue necklace would match his eyes well, but it's partly obscured by the outfit and so seems distracting. his outfit itself is well designed and interesting. his back foot seems rather high unless he was running, which he doesn't seem to be doing by how his upper body looks. i like to imagine what he's doing there and what he's thinking. i dont know, but i like to imagine.

Ah.. thank you very much! I always really appreciate your comments... so.. thanks for being so thoughtful! I totally agree with all you say- the statues are a bit sketchy in places.. and the bricks on the curve behind the statues are a little messy and strange... but i've been having this deal where, i'm not sure if i should make my backgrounds totally detailed- as they may detract from the foreground because they're distracting? Hmm.. But yes- and his foot is a bit high... perhaps he is stepping like a frilly McGirlpants, or i just wanted to get the design of the shoe in there.. hahaha. But.. thank you so much!

And, actually.. I was wondering, is there anything in particular you'd like to see from me? You always give me the most amazing comments, and I love to hear what you say... but, if there's something you'd like to see, let me know! Think of it.. as a kind of request... something to work on to further my.. art-do. Thanks again~ *bowbow*

hmm.. something i'd like to see from you...
you often draw in very dark tones, so maybe a picture that has more light would be an interesting change. i'm not sure about a background, but maybe insteaad of the blended soft colors, use bold ones and clear lines. i don't think a detailed background would take away from the characters. a cluttered one would, but not a detailed one. save the softness for the hair and clothes of the characters. does seem like it might be odd to combine bold and soft styles, but maybe it would looks neat. ?? as for what characters ... i am partial to Diallo and that nice blue hair. other than that ....

Wonderful work, and it's such a real, complete setting, too. This picture has a story to tell, and I'm interested :) The background setting is really cool, and I absolutely love and adore all those details. Also, the dark colour scale appeals to me as well, it makes for a bit mysterious, maybe a bit dangerous scene. But most of all, this just feels so complete. That earns a :+fav: from me!
