The ticking of the clock was loud. It was like a jet engine in your ears, a loud roar that only you could hear. It drowned every other sound. Your attention, once held by the black chalkboard in front of you, now slipped to the clock that assaulted your ears.
This wasn't the first time you'd been in detention. You'd been in countless times before, for various reasons; running to get to your class before the bell rang, sneaking a soda from your locker, playfully stabbing your friend with a pencil... There were so many reasons.
But none of those reasons were why you were here today. Oh no, this was much more serious.
You were failing math. Math was your worst subject; you struggled with it so often that you didn't even need to ask for help anymore; the teacher could tell you were stumped by the blank expression on your face.
