This one is from the last year, dedicated to all of my :facebook: art page followers...totally forgot about it. ;)
Inspired by the movie "300" & Stieven Presfild's "The Hot Gates". Killer book.

At dawn envoy arrivesMorning of October 28th
"No day" proven by deed
Descendants of Sparta,
Athens and Crete!

Look north, ready to fight
Enemies charge from the hills
To arms! Facing defeat!
There's no surrender! There's no retreat!

Time after time
Force their enemies back to the line
Call to arms banners fly in the wind
For the glory of Hellas
Coat of arms reading "Freedom or death!"
Blood of king Leonidas

Air raid pounding the land
Bombers are flying both day and night
Endure six days of rain
Dropped by invaders bomb raid in vain

Strike hard, the tables have turned
Drive them back over the hills
At arms! Just like before
Soldiers, civilians, Hellas at war

By their own hand
Forced the enemy out of their land

Call to arms, banners fly in the wind
For the glory of Hellas
Coat of arms reading "Freedom or death!"
Blood of king Leonidas

Just like their ancestors ages ago
Fought in the face of defeat
Those three hundred men
Left a pride to uphold
Freedom of death in effect

Then, now again
Blood of heroes saving their land

Call to arms, banners fly in the wind
For the glory of Hellas
Coat of arms reading "Freedom or death!"
Blood of king Leonidas

Call to arms, banners fly in the wind
For the glory of Hellas
Coat of arms reading "Freedom or death!"
Blood of king Leonidas

Love.This.Movie!!! :D

No seriously, this has to be my all-time favorite stand-alone film ^^ (fave otherwise being Lord of the Rings as a whole trilogy) :D You did a killer job here, capturing the tone of the film as well as of Miller's original novel/art style ;)

Yes, it's a great one! :D

I remember a time when it was played in the cinema, I went to see it every night. It was just THAT good. :D Actions, battles, CGI, costumes, everything was damn epic in this movie.
Tnx, I had amazing two reference - movie & comic as well. ;)

And, LOTR trilogy was great too! Sadly, I can't say the same for "The Hobbit" trilogy.

Precisely! :D Truly a landmark film of this generation of cinema ^^ One of those films that people are too quick to write off as mindless/simple, yet it holds a sense of hidden brilliance.

Aye. I enjoyed the Hobbit trilogy, very much, but LotR is a f**king masterpiece ;)

What are your thoughts on Rise of an Empire, apart from Green's AMAZING performance?

Apart from Green's AMAZING performance, I do like very much that different approach of battles at sea, in regard to 300, where was fighting on land. CGI was excellent, and scenes angles was terrific. You can really sense those waves and water around you. Ofc, costumes and armors were great too. Music soundtrack also, especially Artemisia theme...I've listened that piece in hours while I was drawing her. :)

Perfectly said :D Even aside from Green, I really did find it a loyal enough follow up to the first film, with some clever shifts in focus/themes

If anything it's a little underrated, imo ;)

Yes, totally underrated, I agree.
True, we don't have Leonidas and other Spartans soldiers this time, and the movie didn't have a reference like that Miller's comic book masterpiece, but I really find it interesting and well done.
Now that we talk about it, I could actually watch it again. :)

Nice work!

Finished reading this book a couple days ago and drew something inspired by it.

I really like that you illustrated their long hair :D

Tnx mate! :D
Book is just piece of art. That Pressfield is a hell of a writer. ;)
Your drawing is great! Love that moment when Leonidas remove his helmet...so emotional.
Well, Spartan without long hair is not a true Spartan. :D As they like to say: "Long hair makes a good looking man beautiful, and a ugly man fierce". ;)
