Legend of Zelda: Zola by Deimos-Remus Legend of Zelda: Zola by Deimos-Remus
Another one. The Zola were pretty annoying. They'd hide out in the water and spit at you. and since you couldn't go in the water, they were also kind of annoying to kill as well.

Good idea! I like that instead of fins it has the gills exposed. Well done you by respected the anatomy: the pectoral fins (those on the sides of the fish's heads) are homologous to the arms, otherwise it would have "four anterior limbs".

These are called River Zoras. They were only referred to as "Zolas", erroneously mind you, in the board game adaptation. Great art, though.

I figured it was a localization error, makes sense. I like the name Zola, and it was spelled that way in the American manual, so I thought to keep it.

Thanks!

Don't you mean Zora?

Nope, though I'm sure they're related. They're definitely called Zora in the first game.

You know, keeping in mind that, canonically, the original Zelda is at the end of the road in one timeline, and remembering what the Zora/Zola look like in later games, one has to wonder what Ganon did to them to turn them into those... things.

I remember these guys. They remind me of the Gill Man from the Creature From the Black Lagoon. I remember this one part in the game King's Quest IV where you're supposed to cross the swamp and if you turn into a frog and try to cross the swamp, it's suicide. Why? Because a man-like creature with gills and fins eats you, pops out of the water, and says, "Oh boy, I sure love frog legs!" A little morbid, but kind of funny. I can't help but wonder if the game had voice acting, what the Gill Man would sound like if he could talk.

Definitely inspired by the gillman! Those Sierra 'quest series' games were always fun and quirky, I'd like to try some of them out again sometime!

Gog.com should have the Sierra titles for a reasonable price. As for me, I have the Quest for Glory, Space Quest, and King's Quest series on CD-ROMs. I uploaded them to my MacBook Pro using a DOS-emulator known as Boxer and they work swell!

Would you mind if I used this image as an avatar for my Zelda fanart Tumblr? I post mostly (properly credited) fanart there, so I'd like to use a fanart image for it (not an official one): and since my website, (the one that this tumblr is for, History of Hyrule) uses the old-school Zora as it's icon: I was wanted to use a fanart-zora.

Doh! Sorry about that, it's this one: [link]

Right now I'm mostly just posting and reblogging anything that strikes my fancy: but I'm going to start trying to use it more seriously soon; for features and more serious fanart stuff. Life just keeps getting the way and I haven't had time to really start organizing how I'm going to do it as well as writing the blurbs to go along with the features.

The avatar hardly shows up, but it looks really cool as one. Thank you so much!
