Very very nice dude, Which programs was it that you used for this?

Thanks mate.

Cinema 4D for modeling and rendering and Gimp for the quick sepia effect.
Except for the hdr skymap, the textures are generated.

Might i ask how it was you managed to get the red on the handle and the black tie on the sheath to look like fabric as well as you did? I haven't actually tried making fabrics but that's because i don't know where to start lol xD

Thanks for the feedback;
Fabric in C4d is a tricky one, no argues there. To get it right, you first need to think about what kind of fabric it's going to be and how zoomed in or out you later want to render it. The closer the cam is to the fabric, the more you should think about the microstructure of the fabric, i.e. the threads that weave it.
In medium proximity -like the katana above- you want to imitate the rough structure of the fabric, in this case strands that run along the bend of the ribbon as well as a tiny bit of segmentation to hint at a weave. That was acieved by a normal map and a diffuce chanel, that I painted.
From further away you need to worry about little else, than painting a color and normal map to imitate the folds and crinkles.

In general -not only for fabric, but anything you want to imitate in CG- look at what you want to recreate, look at a photo to see, how it looks on a screen and try to tell, what makes it distinct. look at the lines, the cotrast, etc.

For organic fabrics, you may want to change the illumination of your texture from blinn to oren-nayar and reduce the specular to a minimum.

I hope that helped.
Keep on modeling,
