Apophysis 2.02h, using a tweaked spiralize, and then Make Bilateral script--and of course, much tweaking with triangles. ;) I don't submit without having done that.

Originally rendered at 3200 pixels wide--sized down to 1800 something makes for some very nice anti-aliasing. :nod: I only had to do a little blurring here and there.

I saw this as winged the moment I finished tweaking its shape, hence the name. This time I wanted to try something other than a purely prismatic gradient, hence the current colors.

Cropped, framed and titled in Photoshop 7.0.

Enjoy. :nod:

You certainly are getting some nice gradients in your flames! The flames themselves are nice and clean! great job!! :)

Thank you. :D Usually it takes a lot of trying out of different gradients before I settle on one I like. That way I know I like the gradient I end up using.

Aeires gave me some great anti-aliasing tips: Render BIG, then scale down in postwork. Usually by using the large size, filter radius 1, and high quality, I can avoid having to deal with any jaggies. :D

I wouldn't have been able to try such large renders if not for the new processor. Upgraded from a 1.3 GHz to a 2.083 GHz. BIG difference. :D

I don't mind passing it on, since other people can try this method out to eliminate problems they could be having.

Ya know... I thought we had this discussion before but I went back through my note from May when I tried to weasle the info outta you for your parameters. for some reason we never worked it out .... I coulda helped ya way back then!
My general parameters are
image size=3000+
Quality=2000
Filter Rad=0.6
Oversample=1
when I reduce size for the web (generally around 1200x960) it is automatically anti-aliased.
I used to Oversample at 2 but that takes 4 times as long because of how it works. In case you don't know....it doubles the physical size of the render so 3000x3000 becomes 6000x6000 (which is 4 times the size) but when it is done rendering, the image is reduced back to 3000x3000 and a natural antialias occurs.

The general rule of thumb is to render at least twice the size of the final image if you are using Oversample = 1
:)
Sorry we didn't get that straightened out earlier :(

Hey it's sorted out now. Sorry to give you so much trouble trying to explain that all to me. :dead:

Usually I'll render at 3200 pix wide, and resize for the web around 1800-1600 px wide. :D The canvas size adjusts for the framing tends to throw that off a little, but that's what the sizing effect is now. And yes, I refuse to Oversample at 2. Took way too long. 1 was enough.

Thanks again. :D

Jark? Where do you see an alien in that? :lmao: :D

well it isnt from the side view like jark tends to be portrayed but that glow around the upper wings kinda reminds me of an alien head... and the wings themselves look like the eyes! :eyes:

no prob... fractals are kind of like an inkblot test.. you see what you see, even when there's really nothing there... ^.^;

Are they ever. I get that a lot--people finding different things in whatever I can come up with. I think it's part of the beauty of fractals. Everyone can agree that most fractals are "pretty"...but why, and what it looks like to each person, is different.

I can't believe how prolific you are! Regal colors...and I guess it's granted that this piece reminds me of a moth...very nice:)

I considered Dragonfly for it once, but it didn't quite look the part.

I'm usually a fractal a week, but this time I had a good streak, so I put it to good use. :nod:

Thanks.

I wish I could get a fraction of this from Apophysis, then again it's a new toy for me...maybe someday I will...LOL
Nice piece.

It takes time. I've had Apo probably...a year? :shrug:

It helps to have an artist's eye for shapes and colors. :nod:

If you need help with anything in Apophysis, just note me. I know some friends who might be able to help too.

i realy don't think that i need to comment on these any more (at least so specificly)...jus' 'cause ya got it down....
as always, can't get much better =D
(but any more stuff (lines) in there & i prolly would've started to complain) =P

Yeah, it was only so many lines--and I thought what made it stand out were the primary lines, and the others "echoing" it...too many lines and it would've lost its punch.

And yeah...it does make me think of an insect. :nod:

Thanks.

i can see a little creature like in the center...and the swirly thin line of the fractal reminds me of a rope and the little white part which looks like the creature to me is holding the rope and about to do jump rope :P
its cute..i dont see alot like this one..beautiful f ractal!!!

Thank you. :)

I thought for a while that it resembled a winged insect. Probably still does if I look at it the right way.

So I think you've caught onto something I saw as well. :nod:

Yeah it does look a little like those fold-out things you hang off ceilings or put on tables as centerpieces. :nod: :D

Heh, maybe somebody will ask me to use it for a marriage invitation someday. ;P

(Hell if I were getting hitched, my invites would have a fractal on them.)
