A 2D Apophysis piece this time. I wanted a break from the 3D ones for a little bit. (We'll see how long that lasts...)

Anyways, this one was made after struggling to make sense of some kindly displayed params in #Aposhack. I used my own parameters, as I make it a personal point of sorts to just build new fractals from scratch these days with other parameters as a reference for what I need to do in my work.

This is a kind of fractal I've seen on DA a lot but never could quite figure out how to do it myself. Thanks to the help and advice of the very nice people at #Aposhack, I was able to put this one together, tweak it past the original concept I was going after, and render it at a hell of a lot less time than 18 hours.

Anyways, the name came out of how the colors reminded me of those old fashioned country carnival lights. You know, like on a Ferris wheel, or at the little game kiosks? Yeah, those lights. :D

I really do need to get back to Knoebels' Grove sometime. That was an awesome park....damn....*rollercoaster-lover twitch there*

Apo 2.07 beta, with a slight Levels touchup, cropping, text, and border in Photoshop CS2.

I really, really like the bold geometric structure of this. As well as the colours.

It's just so powerful, and screams to be looked at

Thank you. :)

It screamed to be rendered too, so it's not just you. ;P

I still do 2D fractals.

I just don't understand how to do the 3D "pop" with the 3D version of Apophysis, but it seems I've harnessed a lot of untapped potential flowing around my brain with the 2D ones.. (if you'd like .. take a look at Untitled V, which some people have told me it's even better than my favorite piece, Fib's Origami..)

Until I can figure out how the heck the 3D patch/beta/release version of Apo works, I think I'll stick to 2Ders.

As far as this one goes.. it looks like a modified plastic script with some serious X, Y modifications.

It's absolutely beautiful, though I wish it had just a smidge more color to make the oranges pop out of the background, perhaps a white? Not sure.. but it's still extremely well done.

Thank you.

I can give you some ideas with the 3D--the "bubble" variation is 3D in itself on first transform. Anything following that you can use one of the z- or pre- variations to pop out, up, or just plain make 3D. I've found zscale works nicely with other transforms repeating a bubble, as they tend to make those flat. A little zscale (like .25 or the like) will "pop" them out, as you can see in Full Spectrum. The "dips" were made by putting in a negative value on zscale.

Hope that gives you some starting ideas on 3D. I spent a long time with that collecting dust on my desktop too, so it's not just you.

Very interesting... I like the almost disjointed feeling they seem to have. There's a clear theme and feel, but it's almost like a couple of hte calliope's pipes are jammed with cotton candy or something... *grin*

Interesting impression there. I was going more for Ferris wheels and strings of lights there.

But hey, jammed calliopes look cool. :giggle:

/me laughs...

I was thinking more about 'sounds', but that's me...
