Planet in the Sky by DeepChrome Planet in the Sky by DeepChrome
One of my Terragen landscapes with some Photoshop digital painting mixed in--in the form of that lovely gas giant. It's one of my quicker gas giant efforts. While I like its overall blending in with the scene, I'm not particularly happy with the way the clouds turned out. Not quite gas-giant-y. I think next time I'll use a pic of Jupiter as a reference for HOW to draw the clouds. Don't count on the planet looking 100% like Jupiter though. I prefer the colors of Neptune and Uranus to Jupiter. But I love Jupiter and Saturn's detailing in their clouds. XD

And I decided to put the planet's reflection in the water for realism's sake. I've messed that up on some previous PS/TG mixes, and didn't want to do that this time.

I didn't want to do anything too extensive to the Terragen aspect, which is why the extra stuff's typically confined to the sky. Maybe later, I'll feel a little more confident, like I did with Jark's Homeworld...and add even more stuff.

In fact it doesnt looks like authentic gas giant clouds, but lets just say it has been distortionned by atmospheric stuff or something since there seems to be clouds covering the satellite xD plus its nicely done so it wins Oo :ohnoes:

Eh that's one of my older pieces... so yeah, I've gotten much better at digipainting since then. Thanks for the compliments though.

I just re-grabbed my Terragen off the website again, so I'll probably be doing stuff like this with well, way better eraser work and cloud this time. :D

cool that you'll continue doing this kind of stuff. Id honnestly like to see some picture featuring the underwater world of europa, which would be quite original and uncommon compared to those hundreds of paintings showing only its surface. But its only a suggestion u know Oo

PS. That "journals" thing was "replies to journals" just in case you got confused.

Not a bad idea. The thing is you'd need someone good at doing underwater impressions to make that kind of image work. Not to say it can't be done.

PS. I did suggest in some journals that space art really needed to push the sci-fi boundary of its genre sometimes. Like people doing alien environments like the one you suggested instead of just nebulae and planets in the sky. :)

Yeah pushing our imagination beyond the limits of what we can see on satellite pictures is important since I dont see any interest in looking at a painting that is in fact an exact representation of that horse head nebulae photo which is featured everywhere (except if I am personally interested in the artist's techniques or work itself). ( do you have a link ot those journal comments, i got, in fact, a bit confused :ohnoes:)

Just look at the journals of =gucken and :devPlasma-X7: for the last few weeks--I've conversed a little with both about the genre.

The reflections are neat. Though at first glance, I guessed it was something else due to lack of ripples. But it's likely just me.=p

You should try another one with a more varied set of colours. It's look even better. ^_^

But one thing that I hope to do in Terragen someday (and it'll be my next involved digipainting project after Rubik's Nightmare) is a landscape with a Borg Cube in the sky. Maybe I'll throw in a gas giant on that too...your idea of varied colors intruiges me. :aww:

Ooh. Sounds awesomesauce. Maybe you should put in Phobic somewhere along a mountaintop, with the expression "...Oh, shit."=p

:wow: I wished i had taken a peek into your gallery sooner, i never knew you made such beautiful pieces...:stupidme: :faint:
Well, i hope i can make up for that by :+watch:ing you, just to see yur lovely art. :D

Oh well, now for this pic:
Me likes: colour, effects...everything in general...it just seems so soothing to the eye, in a way...
Me no likes: eh...nothing much really  ...although...i had noticed the mountains seemed a bit 'sharp' in some places, but i can't really say much, seeing as i have little knowledge in art such as this. ;)

Good job. :)

The horizon colors came out of Terragen. And yes, you spelled it right.

I'm going to probably make more of these. The prior TG/PS combos I didn't try to digitally paint--those moons were renders from a filter. (The guys at Flaming Pear, who made their LunarCell filter which I used in prior TG/PS hybrids, should seriously consider making a standalone renderer for spacescapes, like Terragen for Landscapes. It's one sweet planet filter, but it does only Earthlike or Moonlike planets. No volcanics, no acidics, no forest ones, blegh...)
