...being dead.

And not arting too much either obviously.

Well here. I promised you guys I'd try a humanized GLaDOS, and here she is.

I have some sketches of her right-side-up that I may dump on DA too, mostly as inspiration stuff, as this is the finished product. Dispensing product!

Yeah, anyways, I didn't bother counting the hours, but I'm pretty sure it sits around the 1.5-2 hour mark. Kind of a speedpaint, as the lineart came together pretty quickly. The coloring style is sort of a speedpaint-meets-lineart mashup. Mostly experimental. For the sake of art.

Too bad I don't have any cake. :D

Anyways, enjoy.

Photoshop CS3 and a Wacom Cintiq.

GLaDOS, Chell, and Portal are copyright Valve.

It seems to me that Portal is now becoming so pretty famous going around nowadays! =D

If only GLaDOS was human and that goes to show that its a neat idea coming out of this piece ;)

I dunno. She doesn't need to be physically human to be more human, or human-like.

But yes, Portal is awesome.

Thanks. :)

Oh my goodness. 8D So much love for this adaptation. What I usually dislike about humanized versions of GLaDOS is that people assume that just because they're making a machine human means they're giving them human looks beyond what their personality dictate. GLaDOS, on the other hand, has a very cold, sarcastic sort of personality, kept in bondage and possessing a deep, very human sadness. It would be overwhelming and against her character to put the deeper, more depressing parts of her character on the outside, to where you could outright see her emotion in her eyes. And yet people do that too much. Blocking out the eyes, you've effectively put a barrier between her and the viewer, also creating an emotional barrier hard to pass through unless you can bring yourself to sympathize with such a cold-hearted being. I feel this is much like the actual GLaDOS, which makes her such a fascinating character in that you have to let go of your morals and your perceptions of right and wrong to really love the dark, sadistic nature of her character. It's cold and mechanical, while also being very sad in the way that seeing a creature being crushed helplessly and slowly is sad, to where you can't do anything, and they have no choice but to endure the misery.

Of course, the turrets and such are much different in these regards, as they have more emotion that is evident quite quickly, and are allowed to have expressive looks.

Heh, thank you. :D

I really wanted to play off the blogs that had indicated GlaDOS had muchly resembled a woman kept in extreme bondage (blinded, gagged, earmuffed, etc, and hung from the ceiling), because really, that's GLaDOS in a lot of ways, especially once Caroline comes into the picture.
