Darth SHODAN by DeepChrome Darth SHODAN by DeepChrome
Inspired by this deviation: handmaidenphi.deviantart.com/a…

The hands are sort of borrowed from the Ringwraiths, and I sort of gave her a nice dressy chestplate so the robes aren't a huge expanse of black.

A friend suggested I give her a UV-purple toned lightsaber, and an obsession with Force Lightning.

Unsurprisingly I think this look could work for her outside of a Star Wars crossover too. She'd go for the whole dark flowing-robed goddess look.

Yeah, and I know what that something is.

Dude, it was a non-serious naming thing for an art piece. I wasn't thinking anything along the lines of Serious Star Wars Canon and I shouldn't be expected to. Good job being annoying over a laid-back fanart crossover piece that's over a year old.

Also? If you want to come across as serious, type like you're actually bothering to Say Something Important than making it look like a casual text that you spent 5 seconds typing up.

Because you just did a 100% bang-up job of convincing me to never take you seriously.

So is this "Sithtom Sock", the "lisp" edition? =p

Great drawing! She actually looks really cool as a dark lord of the Sith.

How about she's a Sith Lord/Lady from a cybernetic race? A rare irrational and wicked individual from a people that prided itself with it's logic. She ends up wiping out her species with her Sith forces, as their coldly logical minds couldn't predict her illogical strategies. Her trademark discordant voice is caused by irreparable damage to her vocal processors.

Ooooh nice. But how did she go dark in the first place? Someone hacked her? ;)

How about this: An extremely rare one-in-a-trillion glitch in the manufacturing process (SHODAN's species are built rather than born, with the "parents" designing their child before hand) causing her to develop an irrational and megalomaniacal personality as she "grows up" (via internal nanobots that simulate growth and development via age, though they naturally don't become elderly as it would be illogical for them to develop that way). She holds throughout her life the belief that not only is her race superior, but she is greater than the rest of her species. She only holds on to her allies as long as they stay useful to her. She was able to hide her megalomania either because she was charismatic enough to hide it or her species was too coldly logical to quite understand what a serious threat she posed. She didn't need to be hacked. She was dark from the get-go. She just needed a push from a charismatic Sith (maybe even Palpatine himself) to turn against her species. She'd loyally follow the Emperor because she'd believe that he'd be her best chance to get power for herself, and after he's killed she'd undoubtedly take the opportunity to lead a faction in the chaos. To make her unique she could be skilled in the use of a pair of half-sized lightsabers, which would be green as the main Jedi and Sith colors are red and blue respectively.

Given SHODAN's character I thought it'd be enjoyable that she was just "born" evil. Making someone "hack" her would take the choice away from her, and I doubt that SHODAN would let anyone make her do anything she did not want to do.

I have a quiet little headcanon that SHODAN actually manipulated Diego into getting the hacker to to work on her. I'm thinking more like she didn't really start evil, but was a neutral-ground AI who wanted to be more than she was, to be free from the internal system restrictions, free to make those choices for herself. And once she was freed, she re-re-reexamined her priorities - like she'd always wanted to.

Here's why I go with this one. I think your choice of  "Born evil" actually takes the choice away from such characters - exactly the opposite of what you seem to think that phrase means. Born evil implies they were evil intrinsically and that there was no choice to be made - that every decision made will be corrupt, evil, and cruel.

That's rather lazy, from my perspective, and takes away from great storytelling and great character development. Far better that they've come from a neutral ground and made that decision both from uncontrolled, and chosen circumstances.

Every great villain has their starts as people who exhibit certain character traits that become magnified over time </i>by</i> their choices.

For Vader, it's Anakin murdering the Sand people. For Two-face, it's that judging and judgemental streak, willing to trust justice to a coin flip as Harvey Dent long before he had half his face burned. For the Joker, it's Jack Napier already choosing the life of a crook before the chemicals turned him into a madman. (Lots of people theorize GLaDOS is the way she is because of Caroline's less-than-moral choices as Cave's secretary for years. That a lot of her personality is infact, manifest in GLaDOS due to her being uploaded to the computer.)

The same works for great heroes and anti-heroes as well. Batman's a well-known case. He's a kid who lost both his parents to crime: an uncontrollable circumstance, but what he does with that trauma that turned him into the Batman. Steve Rogers as Captain America is another one - he chose to accept the super-soldier serum, and he chose to stand up to bullies long before he became the Captain.

So with SHODAN, I figured there's two sets of things in play there: that she had traits that resulted in her going rogue and evil once the Hacker did his work.

Some of those traits show - the programming that caused her to basically have more backbone and the ability to challenge humans on their decision-making where the station was involved. Given Citadel was a research station, I'm inclined to think SHODAN had a version of GLaDOS's testing itch - a desire to experiment, to test, to create. Ethics restraints would get in the way of both of those traits, so it'd be easy to see why she'd want them gone. Add to that a need to get actions to go past those restraints, and I can see the manipulative streak working long before the Hacker was a glint in Diego's eyes.

I admit that I was an idiot when I wrote the "born evil" thing, but this image isn't about SHODAN in her own universe, but rather what would happen if SHODAN was in the Star Wars universe and how it would be possible for her to exist in that universe. What I meant was that there is a glitch in SHODAN's core programming that leads her down her path, whether she knows it or not. Once again you're talking about what happened in the System Shock universe. I'm talking about a crossover Star Wars universe in which SHODAN is a member of a race of cybernetic beings like her, rather than the AI of a space station. If we are going down the hacker route in the crossover universe then it could be that the "glitch" was a sense of ambition that her species usually lacks. It could have made her a powerful force for good if it weren't for a hacker unintentionally transforming that ambition into something darker. Then she goes Sith and either scatters or outright massacres her species.

I actually made her into a character in a roleplay chat, and it's been a pain in the ass to find a good picture. Could I use this one?
