ANGELIC by DeepChrome ANGELIC by DeepChrome
Done using a tweaked spiralize script, and the Make Bilateral script...and a while of triangle-putzing to make this look the way it does. Someone go give *dmschenk some love for telling me how to bilateralize this sort of spiralized fractal, please.:heart: This piece wouldn't be here if not for him. ;P

Rendered from Apophysis 2.02h. I slept through the render, so I'm not sure how much faster my new proccessor put this one through, but suffice to say, after waking up 8 hours after I'd sent Apo off to render, it was done and the computer powered down. :O_o: Holy Wazoly. :faint:

Resized, cropped, and frame/texted in Photoshop 7.0. No other postwork. (Believe it or not, going down from 4000 px to 2000 px antialiased what jagginess was there, and that was shocking few. :O_o: I was amazed, considering most of the lines there looked like they could've had jaggies. Cropping trimmed it a bit further, but that's a BIG anti-aliasing effect, I'd think?)

The title is kind of obvious if you stare at it for a while, methinks. I decided, instead of using the typical "heavenly" golds, blues, and whites, to try something a bit more cosmic, and perhaps a touch more along the New Age side of things. Hence the current color scheme.

I'm not sure, but at the time it was Apophysis 2.02 or something--a good near year ago now--and a script that no longer works on the current versions.

I'm itching for someone to work it out--as I know one other deviant who's used it, and he's trying to fix the problem. Because these particular fractals--I'd script, then putz with on triangles for HOURS--and then come out with awesome renders. I think of Angelic and the others like as some of my best fractal work, period.

Kind of a shame the new versions won't take that script. Rrrgh.

What render settings did you use for this fractal?

I'm experimenting with settings at the moment, and I'm yet to find one that looks as good as this does.

8000/ filter radius .6/ oversample 1. It's in the render settings box when you render. ;)

You may need to post work some "jaggies" out of fractals afterwards in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. They're where the render causes the image to get slightly pixilated.

That was probably mine. :paranoid: I got tired of people under-describing problems and what they liked in my fractals. I really, really like to see people noticing what's wrong as much as what's right. It's great when everything goes perfectly, but those parts that don't work could be improved.

For example, Aeries mentioned a means of anti-aliasing Apo fractals by rendering big and scaling down in PS. I wouldn't have hit on that by myself, and by doing that I've improved my work a bit. (ANGELIC being a prime example of that, now that my proc can handle big-assed renders better.)

Apophysis. Freeware fractal generating program.

I believe =prophet118 has a few links through which one can download it from... :)

It's a popular fractalist program because it's free. :D

I can tell you.

You know =prophet118's method of tweaking the standard spiralize script that comes with Apo, where certain symbols got replaced with * and so on? (You can ask him--I'm sure he still knows how.) I listed all the variants as "spiralizetweak" and a number. 3, the one I use the most, and 4, which reverses direction of certain things, I think it added a negative to a number somewhere, are my favorites.

Then...after you've run that script. Go in and delete the 12th (bright blue, NOT the aqua one) triangle in the editor. It should be one of those used for the spiralize effect, clustered with a bunch of others around the main one. (Going to Transform, and pulling down to 12 is a good quickie way of doing this.)

THEN run Make Bilateral. It's another of those run-of-the-mill scripts your Apo came with. ;) Note, it'll only do it to the fractal you're looking at. Then you can tweak as if it's a bilateral. Basically works the same way.

That was how *dmschenk told me in a note. I'd asked him if he knew of any way to bilateralize those types of spiralizes, and he'd been trying to do it as well since he's had to use Photoshop to give those fractals that he does with that type of script the bilateral look. As you can guess he was pretty happy to figure that out too. (I recommend his lateralside script, which he's made available on DA. Gives some very interesting results, one of which is my Persia fractal.)

Do you mean jaggies, or do you mean in the shape of the fractal? I'd love to improve, so if you caught something I should've blurred out, don't hesitate to let me know.

And thanks for the comment on what you did like.

Try looking at my NIGHTLIFE fractal. They're very obvious in the yellow areas. It's basically pixilation in the edges of a fractal or in the lines of it if you use a lot of line-y effects and the like. I'm told they can be prevented by rendering at a large size, and then scaling down and blurring any of them that you see in postwork.

I guess your take is more an asthetic one regarding how sharp some edges are?

It's okay. I'd rather worry that I wasn't doing the best job I thought I was, rather than coasting easily. Just something I've had to learn lately. :)

And thank you. :D
