Finally finished with my "Type as Metaphor" project.
This page represents the passage where the destruction of the English language is being discussed. I used El Lissitzky's piece as inspiration where the new language of Newspeak is piercing the old language in white. I have a bunch of words that mean good and bad in white, and the only 5 words to be used in Newspeak are in red. This makes more sense if you have read the book!
We had to take a piece of literature and create a 4 page series representing the themes in the book through typography. One panel uses paragraphs/sentences/phrases, one uses words, one uses syllables, and one uses letters.
I chose 1984. I hope I represented it well. I kind of ended up going with a Russian Constructivist kind-of vibe which is not anywhere near where I started with. If you haven't read this book you should!
