Dea-Vita

It was just like every day... Every day she could remember in this place anyway. There were a few unaccounted for, likely due to wounds, now scars that decorated her pelt.  She was awoken by the jangle of keys and slosh of a water bucket. Footsteps as the unlucky guard plodded through the room. His sandals kicked up the dust that laid over the cobbles.  She slowly rose to her feet, hisses informed her that he’d reached the first cages. The sound of the water sloshing into the troughs reached her ears. That was her cue, herself appointed time to shine. “MEW”  Demeaning was an understatement. Mewling like a cub to attract the attention of this hairless monster. And yet here she was. Oh how the mighty had fallen.As the human moved closer to her cage she increased the frequency of her meowing calls. She didn’t miss the flick of the guard's eyes in her direction, still pausing on the red ribbon that marked her cage as one to be cautious of… Sometimes she regretted her early behavior
