Decoding Daily Deviations: Artificial Guardian
Decoding Daily Deviations is the series that aims to unlock the secrets of what it took to create these magnificent artworks and motivate others to work towards similar recognition. Each week we will present an interview with one artist who has recently received a DD and have them share the details on that specific piece, relating to their creative process, techniques, and narrative inspirations. If you've ever wanted to know more about a beloved artwork and the talented skills applied to it, this is the series to keep track of!"

PE Daily Deviations - So you want to suggest DDs?
You're browsing deviantART or are simply checking your message centre and find a wonderful art piece. You want to suggest it as a Daily Deviation because you believe it truly deserves to be seen by the community as a whole. But how to properly suggest a DD? This article will explain the process.
Things to check before sending a suggestion:
The first thing you need to check is if the artist has been given a Daily Deviation in the past 6 months. Volunteers cannot feature anyone who's had a DD in that period of time with no exceptions, as this has been hard-coded into deviantART's system.
"But how do I check an artist's Daily Deviations?" you may ask. Simply go to their gallery, click browse and scroll down. If they have any DDs, you'll be able to find a link to them at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you can add "/dds" after their profile url and click enter on your browser's address bar.

PE: What to look for when searching for DDs
Daily Deviations Week
What to look for when searching for DDs
In order to understand what it takes to choose and search for a Daily Deviation, let's look at what a Daily Deviation ( or DD ) is. Taken from DeviantArt's FAQ
"A Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on DeviantArt. A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
For more information please refer to FAQ 18: Who selects the Daily Deviation and how is it chosen?"
Usually when you want to look for a Daily Deviation, you want to start on DeviantArt's front page and make sure you are on the browse section. You can choose from the last 8 hours, 24 hours

PE: Self Suggesting Daily Deviations
Self Suggesting
Members are more than welcome to self suggest their own art work for a Daily Deviation, in fact many CVs highly encourage self suggestions.  While self suggesting may have been something people frowned upon in the past, this is thankfully no longer the case as we all recognize the need for self promotion in the competitive world of art.
But suggesting my own work is embarassing
There is no shame in trying to get yourself and your work seen.  By self suggesting you are merely looking to gain more exposure from a broader audience. Look at it this way, if you're not willing to advertise your own work and get more clients and exposure, who will?
When we CVs receive self suggestions we treat them the same as we would any other suggestion so you can easily treat a self suggestion the same as you would a submission of your art to a group so more users can see the piece.  While we do not guarantee that we

PE: Dos and Don'ts of Literature DDs
Daily Deviations Week
Literature is just a small portion of DeviantArt compared to the Visual Arts, but it is just as mighty.  The libraries in our literature galleries are filled with epic poems, tales of fantasy adventures, space operas, curl up on the couch romance, six word stories and spectacular sonnets that will leave you mesmerized.  But it's not like they have neon signs attached to them that blink and say "Read me!"  Which means we have to wade through the other literature that isn't quite up to snuff.  And then the idea hit us.
Why not make a list of things that put up the red danger flag when we're reading lit?

Don't pretend like you don't know what we're talking about.  Imagine clicking on a link and finding one giant wall of text with no paragraph breaks or indentations.  Or maybe it's a poem full of high school hormones and teenage love cliches.  No wait, it's the story that af

Daily Deviations: Awards or Features?
Daily Deviations Week
The Daily Deviations surely represent one of the most important traits of DeviantArt, for which the site itself is recognized widely. They've been here since the very beginning of DeviantArt and have become more and more established over the years. Today they're probably the most coveted "award" that DeviantArt can offer to its members.
Typical reaction of a Community Volunteer who hears the words "DD" and "award" used at the same time.
Exactly. This might be confusing, but many people think that the Daily Deviation represents an award. It's not that uncommon to find deviants writing things like "I've been awarded a DD!" or "Glad to have received the DD award!". To make everything a little bit clearer, let's read the entry in the DA faq:
:faq61:
The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on DeviantArtT.

What are DDs and Where to Find Them
Daily Deviations Week
What are Daily Deviations?
Daily Deviations (or DDs) are a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on DeviantArt. It is selected by one of the approximately 50 Community Volunteers who are responsible for each gallery on DeviantArt. DDs can be suggested to Community Volunteers by finding the correct CV and then sending them a note. Deviants can even suggest their own work to a Community Volunteer anonymously!
Each Community Volunteer is allowed to accept or deny any suggestion that they receive. They are also given the ability to set their own guidelines that work within the parameters of the DeviantArt guidelines. Every Community Volunteer has their guidelines outlined or linked to from their front page.
Where to find Daily Deviations
DeviantART released a new interface in late-2014 changing the location of the Daily Deviations from the

DD descriptions, why they are important
Daily Deviations Week
Overview
The question on why it is important to include Daily Deviation descriptions have come up a lot over the years. For those unfamiliar with Daily Deviation descriptions they are the thoughts and feelings of a suggester, the featuring volunteer, or staff member regarding a Daily Deviation. For instance, the volunteer, staff member, or suggester may discuss the amazing detail or use of color in a particular piece.
The Importance of Daily Deviation Descriptions
It is important for Daily Deviations to include a description because they provide insight into why a particular art piece received a Daily Deviation. Also, it informs the Daily Deviation recipient on why they received a Daily Deviation for that particular piece.
Another reason why Daily Deviation descriptions are important is they help educate artists. For example, if a Daily Deviation is chosen for its exceptional composition artists are provided with a cor

What not to say when suggesting a DD
As CVs we get a tonne of suggestions for DDs, and with those come a variety of assertions as to why the piece should be featured as a DD. Some of these, particularly those that focus on things extrinsic to the art, really don't help get the art featured at all. In fact, sometimes the given reason can hinder the process instead. Here's a breakdown of the most common, unnecessary things we are told.
"The deviant worked really hard on this piece."
This is one of the most common extrinsic reasons I receive in DD suggestions, and the reason why it is so common is also the reason it is a bad one: it applies to just about everyone.
All artists who are even moderately serious about their work put a lot of time and effort into what they create. Those that seem to create difficult things with ease have put a lot of years of hard work into developing those skills. If we were to give DDs based on hard work, we'd have to DD almost every piece on the

The CVs on DDs: A Group Interview
A brief interview with the Community Volunteers!
We're almost done with June, and the Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive has been a rousing success already! :la: But who are these people you're bombarding with pretty art to feature? What do they think of Daily Deviations? And what else do they do in the community?
This group interview was created to help reveal the ways DDs get chosen, who prefers what, and to basically de-mystify the whole process! So get your popcorn and settle in for some devious insights!
Why are suggestions from the community important to the DD selection process?
:iconthemaideninblack: They are important because the community should have a say in what gets features. The community isn't a passive part of the website, it's active and as such, it should actively promote its own product! DDs are
