The Wave... by DDL-Photography The Wave... by DDL-Photography
October 14, 2012

Two CEFX GP38-3's pull hard on a manifest train leaving the train yards by Dayton's Bluff heading north on a beautiful late fall afternoon.

The brakeman gives a friendly smile and a wave as they run by. In today's age that means a lot to this photographer as most railroaders have mixed feeling about train photographers (railfans). It ranges from confusion on why we waste our time shooting these machines to being a huge menace. This was not as bad days ago, but times do change. For me, it dates back to the days of the caboose where it was always customary to wave at not only the crew on the locomotive, but the caboose as well.

So, to all the train crews that preform this kind act, I "thank you". You can bet I will always return the wave wishing you a safe journey for this day and all your days on the railroad.

Locomotives on this train are:

CEFX 805 GP38-3 (Ex-B&O GP38)

CEFX 3811 GP38-3 (Ex-Southern GP38)

Great shot! I saw these in Bensenville a couple weeks ago, but not in real photo range! So true about a friendly wave! I think BNSF is the best in this regard!
