Urquan Lighting Test

This takes a while to load.
This is just a test, I need help from some programmers to implement this. If you can help, contact me!

Created a normal map to the existing Star Control 2 ships.
Why have this?
This uses 1/8th the space of the original Star Control artwork.
We can have hundreds of angles now if we wanted.
Quicker loading, less files, less RAM.
Lasers, explosions, colored suns, etc. can now light up the ships in new and interesting ways.

Note: May have issues with colors, due to 256 color GIF format restraints. Won't necessarily look like this in the game, some ships are unfinished, or have over-done lighting to show off the effect.

I immediatelly imagined an old, "brownish" Ur-Quan reading a book by candlelight :) (I'm sure no Kzer-Za or Kohr-ah ever heard of candles :)

Don't have any idea where this can be used either, but agree, looks cool :)

I'm working on creating a 'bone' system to allow for smoother animations.
Easier for the artists, less work, more fluid movements.

These can be as smoother as 60fps.

The new Spriter app from Brashmonkey, and the upcoming Spline app supports bending/warping animations.
So, we can have those tentacles moving.
Add in lighting, and you have the most realistic, smooth, 2D animation possible.

Right now, I'm in the R&D phase, but so far it's looking really promising.

No idea why this one is needed, but I'm excited. This looks really cool.

So is the idea that this effect can be used anywhere in the game?

Yep. That's the idea.
