“Artemis….Artemis!” Someone hollered my name, “ you better not be asleep again! And god so help me, when I get my hands on you!” I knew that voice better than anyone out there and trust me, you never want to anger the person in charge of feeding you. Especially my mother.
“ARTEMIS!” My mother called out for me. “Imma count to 10 and if I don't see you by 10 seconds are done, you won't have any dessert after dinner!” Well that got me moving, My mom’s desserts are the best, and missing out didn't sound much fun to me.
“10….9…” she began to count and i knew from past experiences she was not joking. My mother as kind as she was, she was also very firm with me.
Shooting up from my nap and begin to run towards her, ducking and weaving through the fields and hoping I’d make it before 0. “5…4...3!” as she got closer to 0, I picked up speed. I came tumbling forward right before she said 0, out of breath, I wondered why she called me.
I bet she wanted me to got to the market for dinner tonight. “Artemis, can you be a dear and go to the market for dinner tonight.” She said handing me a list of things i had to get, i swear, sometimes i feel like she can read minds.
Taking the list from her i began to run toward the market, the only market in our small village matter of factly. Before i could set my foot down my mother called out for me. “Make sure to stop by Mark’s candy store and pick up some candy you want.”
Turning around slowly, I look at her in disbelief. “Really?!” She nods her head and i still stare at her. “You better go before i change my mind” Taking her advice, i run towards the market. I can't believe she let me choose the candy this time, she usually never does that. Because i was so excited i did a little skip and a hop every once in awhile.
Skimming the list i go to each stall and pick up the things from the list, sometimes staying a little longer to talk to the merchants there. Some were old friends of ours and others new to the village. By the time i was done talking with the last marchant i had to got to, my arms were burden with the mass amount of groceries i had bought. One of the merchants gave me cart and said to bring it back whenever, thanking him i head towards Mark’s candy store.
