... troll assassin!

i did this is for a small pratchett fanzine... it was pretty hard for me to draw a night scene and what was really annoying (and still is) that this pic look different on each monitor... on some it is so dark that one cant see a thing and on other its really light...
it had me constantly changing the values while working on this
please give me some feedback on whether it works on you monitor...

but i enjoyed ths picture nevertheless... huge pratchett fan! :)

In spite you believe the picture looks dark, it still captures the atmosphere perfectly. The game of colors is just right, and the mysterious element invites the viewer to jump-in to Ankh-Morpork. So this is done just right, and delivers what it is suppose to.

Well, this is a lovely pic, but I wonder how the tiles would hold a 4-tones basalt creature? :) Just make the juuuuuuuuuuuuuuump to the next building aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand seeeeeeeee.... ;)

I love his work too...the picture works really well when you expand it up to its greatest size. It has a great atmosphere to it, this picture.

I don't know why, but really good Discworld fanart is a very rare thing. Alas.
And this picture is one of a few that I appreciate very much =)
I can feel the whole mood of Ankh-Morpork here.

Ooh..the light and shadows are so dramatic, as well as how the red light fades to blue as you go higher. I also really enjoy the little detail of superimposing the Unseen University right in front of the moon.

I think it's great. Before I'd even read the title I was thinking it looks very Pratchett like!

Looks great on one monitor, although a little dark on my other one.
But my dual monitor system is bit annoying.

This is fantastic. Love the fact that you got so much of the city in there (UU! Whoo!) and the coloring/lighting really make it. The troll himself is very cool, I see a bit of Paul Kidby in his face, but he still looks like he can move like an a very trollish way.

This is beautiful! It's a little dark on my monitor, but I that's my monitor's fault, not yours. :) I really love the blue shading in the background, and the cityscape generally. And the detailing on the troll is fabulous!
Hunter-Wolf Featured By Owner Jul 17, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
From my monitor it looks just fine, great work on the scene ... love the amount of details and how you used the contrast between reds and blues ^_^
ginabina Featured By Owner Jul 10, 2011  Student Interface Designer
This is great! You know, I always love warm and cool color tones in one piece, and I think it's because the cool colors do a great job of showing distance and yearning, like seeing the beautiful cityscape and the glowing moon off in the distance. But the warm colors are wonderful and showing intimacy and closeness, like I feel like these guys in the foreground are up to something and I'm in on it. You used these effects VERY well and it created a wonderful moment.

In short - yes, it works on my monitor, and I love it :)

This is FANTASTIC! The lightness balance seems spot on for me, but i dare say even if it wasn't I'd still love it to bits. <3

It works pretty well on my monitor, the sources of light are clear and really well done.
And yay for the troll assassin! I hope the roofs can manage his weight! :3

Holy fucking shit! This is amazing! I am not far enough in Discworld (only read the first 10 books and played the games), but this captures exactly what I think Ankh Morpork is like.

I want to move to the "shadows" just to keep that great atmosphere here.

great picture! i think the lightning is wonderful.
i'm a huge pratchett fan myself. it was about time that those snobbish assassins kept up with the times an took non-human members. but how do the rotten ankh-morpork roofs stand the weight of a troll? could be an intressting way to kill, simply fall on people. ;-)
