Born among interstellar traders, Behal eventually joined Star Fleet as a way to get a first class medical degree essentially for free.  She has a scalpel sharp wit coupled with an almost painful honesty which she uses to goad/test people around her.  What few realize is how deeply religious she is--her own faction holds that as the Prophets Are Now Others May Become, for as We are Now the Prophets Once Were.  They believe the path to the Prophets is compassion, not only on behalf of one's friends or strangers, but even enemies.  Yeah, stop them hurting you, but try not to hate.  Behal will rarely discuss her beliefs, however.
