Apologies

This is David Metlesits speaking to the 3D Community around the World Wide Web. I wish to make this following statement: I was, and I am, guilty. I'm sorry I have caused so much trouble to people I respect, people I know to possess skills I will perhaps never be able to match. What I did was partly conscious and partly sub-conscious. Those who know me know my motivation that stands behind my concepts of three-dimensional models. I won't lie to you: they are indeed influenced by Lenin's writings. For this, I am maybe your bear in the woods, to live with a Nixonian phrase. I did what I thought was right, perhaps out of ignorance concerning the concept of public domain. I am unskilled in legal matters, so I only attempted to follow my own modal code. This was responsible for a clash between me and, well, let's be honest, the cream of the 3D world.

If anyone reads this, please convey my apologies to the people involved. I consider this case closed. Please know that you won't see me converting models anymore, not even for private use, unless I am specifically asked by the original author. Working with those beautiful models was fun, but it's time to go on. If the authors of said models want me to delete the pics made with said models from my gallery here on DeviantArt, please notify me in one way or another and I shall obey. Also, I think I shall refrain from using any mesh made by anyone by me, at least up until I manage to contact its author and he/she gives me permission for using them.

For those who follow my work: I won't be gone. I have to sort out what to do, it'll take about a day. Let's just say I need to sleep to get my brain functioning again. See you shortly,

Dave

Right now, I'm just confused...

I can't say I know what this is all about, except some copyright issues, if I'm correct.

Whether it is or not, I frankly don't give a damn =P You've given dA some of the best Trek pictures in gallery, those who can give you a real "Trek-Feel".
And there's not much of that on dA in general, that "art-feel" or whatever. Heck, you've even given us free meshes/models to play with! xD

Anyhow, keep up your good work, your uploads never cease to amaze me!

Thank you very much for the support!

Be prepared for my return with something never-before seen from The Metlesits :D

I am indeed excited to see what this is! :D :D

Sounds very much like someone got very snotty and was acting immature in your general direction to prompt such a retraction and reply. Whoever the culprit is he's hardly worth your respect after behavior like that. Skill or no its no excuse to act like a primadonna.

I hope the thing's settled now. I hope...

Dave, I'm no expert on these thigns but it seems to me you made a simple mistake based on generosity rather than any bad reason. Whoever these people are that have complained, please do not let their meanness of spirit get you down. You have always given credit for your work and made no money from it. All this guy had to do surely was register on the site in question.. so I dont think youve done anything wrong.

I was stupid and now I'm paying the price. But they won't grind me down. Better people have tried and failed.

Dave - you made a mistake - it happens even to the best of us!

To be honest Alain Rivard should stop being such a big cry baby (I'd tell him to his face IF I ever meet him) - he should be flattered someone even LIKES his work!

He does great stuff, no two words about that. His personality... that's another thing. I understand him, but only partially.

True, but to make someone's life hell - for a MISTAKE - is frankly a joke :-(
davemetlesits's avatar
It ain't hell, or not more like it than as it always does. But I'll return shortly, with something that is worthy for the name "Star Trek".

You've made a lot of impressive artwork & you should carry on. . . . .just do what feels best for you
I wish you the best of luck & hope to see more of your artwork. . . . .

The best right now is to rely on the stuff I made myself. Nobody can go against that. Besides, it might boost my modelling skills :D

I-I don't quite understand...
I have a hard time understanding some words, so I don't....

No problems, litte one. It's me and a stupid mistake I made, making me an outcast.

Good luck against the hate mail.
Trust me, I know how that will feel.
And I expect a grand return my friend!

I intend to make my return Trek-worthy. The most Trek-worthy I can imagine!

This reminds me of what got me out of doing studio scale models (Recreating the filming miniatures such as the Galactica). Everyone in that area of modeling is very petty, cutthroat, and childish.
You do beautiful work, keep it up, and you may play with any of my meshes that I create. Just ask. ;)

Never Give Up! Never Surrender! :salute:

On, Teb, on! :D

Well, everyone makes mistakes and as far as yours goes, seems not too bad. At least you owned up to it! I am sorry you got stung by it. Don't stop your work!

HOWEVER... if you want to make it up to your fans (read me, in this case) you can still create a model of the Spectre class and create one of your masterful scenes with it. :) And yes, I will ask for this every once in awhile until you crumble from my persistent nagging.

(And you know I am kidding, I hope - just keep on doing what you are doing, it's wonderful stuff!)
