Oh wow, this is awesome. It reminds me of an article I read once where NASA's seen a planet being consumed by a star--it was orbiting much too close anyways, but still--I dunno if this was inspired by that, but that's what it reminded me of. :)

No kidding. Capt. Metlestis'd better be careful in this star system if he doesn't want the Polaris to be fired to a crisp (which would make many high ranking Starfleet officers very happy).

Think about how often your crew's made Starfleet look bad and ask yourself if Starfleet's highest ranking Admirals would be happy she's gone, even to the point of arranging an 'accident' for our heroes?

Section 31 is always on our asses. What they don't know is that the Polaris and the First Fleet is supported by the majority of Terrans, especially Terran Nationalists. An "accident" involving a First Fleet courier ship and a Tellarite cruiser started the Federation Civil War in the 2390's. Earth was defated but it was a Phyrric victory for the Federation, losing many capital shps. The Polaris of that era, commanded by Captain Michael Ashdown, was the only ship in history to make a stand against the Enterprise of the era (the E under Captain Data) and the battle ended in a draw. The war ended with Earth defated, humiliated, most citizens losing the right to vote for two voting terms (so that thsy couldn't vote secessionists into the UE Parliament) and a cold war started between Earth and Tellar.

Trust me, the Midway (my Sovvie) fought alongside 1st Fleet, and was destroyed in the final battle, with Section 31 going so far as to destroy escape pods...

Except for that time they were testing 'metaphasic shields' on that shuttlecraft, and then later when they used them to hide from that rouge Borg ship, and that other time the Klingons used that one star to sneak up and destroy a Dominion facility, and back in to the same one to lose the ships that survived... Please don't hit me. :D
