What's sad is that these characters were barely seen in the film, not to mention all the work into the animatronic suits

Thats very true. We did 2 sets of reshoots on these guys once on location in Philly and a second time shooting wire rig gags on a soundstage at ILM.
M Night still cut almost all of it, and we had some great footage that i think would've made the film a little better.

I know that stuff like that happens, but still it is an awesome design, not to mention the incredible talent at Spectral Motion.

The detail is really intricate. It has so much movement for a still object, in the way the tendrils are arranged. I especially love the top of the head. It must have taken ages! ( Thanks for sharing your work here. I don't watch alot of films so I probably wouldn't have seen it. )

Very inspiring. I remember this branch ape from the movie. It's incredible that you managed to pull this out from a regular sculpture, I could have sworn it would have been done on the computer.

Really? U sculpted this? Did Steve Wang sculpt the big one? what was it like working with a Legend?

Yeah, this maquette and the suit. Yes, he did. Steve brought me on to this job after we worked together on "Underworld 2". I've known and worked with Steve on several projects and he's one of the greatest artists and one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. He's really one of a kind and I've learned so very much working with him.

This is amazing work! It is one of my favourites movies of all time.
How large is this sculpture and how long did it take to make it?

Thanks. I think it's about 18 inches and it took me about 3 weeks.
I'm going to post a few more pics of him very soon.

Actually, Don was working with myself and Steve Wang on these. We each did one, but unfortunately they wanted Don's to go in a different direction than what he did.
