Description
This is my version of MC Escher's "Bond of Union"
It's of Serena and I <3
About 20 hours
18x24 inch drawing paper
Graphite H - 9B
Large and small paper stumps
This is the last drawing I am doing on regular drawing paper for now. I think the reason my blacks aren't smooth enough is partially because of the paper type. I just recently started posting my art and found that the majority of other people's drawings that I really enjoy have been done on bristol so I'm gonna give it a try

What a neat, original twist on a great classic!
Well composed and balanced. I love how some of the spheres are coming out into the margin! Though you have used the spheres differently than Escher, I think you still used them effectively to create the illusion of depth.
If you were going for that smooth matte black background as seen in the original, I think you are on the right track by changing the paper. In my experience, I have only been able to get a smooth matte black with charcoal.
I think sticking with realism in the portraits is very much your style. Escher kind of stylized them in a way that reminds me of Greek statues. On the note of realism, I love the connecting chain too! Very original!
Once again I see your dark darks and your light lights, great value! (If you were going for hardcore realism in the portraits, read on)
However, I think that the fore-facing nostril and eye (between the lid and the brow bone) of the Female need more attention. Her teeth are amazingly done, excellent attention to detail! I'm not 100% sure about the value in her bottom lip.
I think the Male face needs his proportions double checked and I'm not sure that the value around the eyes is on spot. With his upper lip (and probably his chin too), I think it should be drawn how you see it not how you think it should look.
Man, you look weird without facial hair.
Why no hair?
If you were going for no hair at all, why leave the eyebrows in? <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/>
You did a great job on the hair that you did leave in.
The perspective on the broken edges is a little hazy. There are some questionable spots for sure. Check out the edge that curves out, just below the Female's far eye (I love the way the eye lashes stick out, by the way!) and the edge on the highest point of the Male forehead.
To finish on a positive note, the eyes are extremely well done. Eyes are very powerful and expressive components to begin with, especially in this case.
The time and energy you've put into this definitely makes Bond of Union stand out.
