Ah! I envy your talent! How do you keep the lines at even width? Do ya use a brush / stroke?
Nope all shapes. I just have a lot of practice.
Tips for keeping the lines smooth are to use as few points as possible keep lines parallel and practice.

I have worked on shapes (via pen tool). I'm very used to it, but i can never get the thickness evenly!
I have worked on shapes (via pen tool). I'm very used to it, but i can never get the thickness evenly!Use as few points as possible and then after you get it close then go in with the direct selection tool and then adjust the nodes till you get them correct.
You can also be lazy and use strokes then convert the stokes to shapes and then go in and delete points to make points, this is nice for super long lines that don't have a lot of variation.
