Sonador's parents were born into the Talori herd, met at a young age, and became life-long lovers. Though they often felt marginalized for being Pegasi, it was the bond between them that kept the pair strong. Even if they weren't beaten or hounded in the streets they could still feel the judging stares of those around them. The two of them remained together and became mates once they came of age. It was soon after when the mother realized she was pregnant and the couple rejoiced, however the expecting parents had to make a decision. Should their foal be born in Talori it wouldn't change anything. It'd become the three of them trying to carve out a living in a herd that didn't love them. They didn't wish for that, but there was a chance that it would be far worse should they defect to another herd. Without a herd there was no guarantee that they would be taken in by another. Besides that they feared Pegasi might be discriminated against, even hated elsewhere.
In the end they decided it would be best to weather the storm of segregation on familiar ground rather than risk the unknowns of the outside world. And so they stayed and Sonador was brought into the Talori herd.
Sonya's young life turned out as his parents expected. Other foals made fun of him because his wings were too long and he looked like a girl. He took refuge in others of his kind and his parents' company. The little one stayed strong and tried to be kind to all he met, even if he was unsuccessful. Only a child, he couldn't always keep his head and would scream and cry when pushed. All that could soothe him during this time was his father's music which always made him happy. Even now the songs that his father used to play remind him of the good times they had together, as a family.
Still dependent upon his parents, Sonador spent most of his time in their company rather than with other horses his age, even his own kind. The culture of Talori started to get to him as he learned more about it's history and why the herd looked down on them to begin with, causing him to question his purpose in life. Up until this time he'd not seen the worst of the Talorin traditions for the Pegasi population, the Solstice celebrations. His parents had kept him unawares of them. This changed when Sonya, being woken by the intense singing of instruments in the early morning, went to observe their source. What he found was a Pegasus being paraded around like a king by herd members of all walks of life.
Seeing the festivities caught Sonya off-guard as all he'd ever known was animosity from the other horses. What made this Pegasus so different? And so unbeknownst to his parents the colt followed the procession throughout the day, enchanted by the change in the herd's mentality seemingly over night. Of course his misconceptions only made the truth more crushing, as the parade neared Inaria's peak and the Pegasus who had been venerated throughout the day was violently stripped of his wings and plummeted off of the cliff into the ocean below. The fragile youth's soul shattered and he shambled back home in pieces. When his parents realized what he'd seen they consoled him and tried to explain but he'd have none of it. The colt cursed his birth and pleaded with the Goddess to explain why she'd let such a thing happen to her own.
Over the years that followed, Sonador's parents slowly repaired his faith in the Talori herd. They used the Goddess as a focal point for his healing, telling him that all they did was to thank her for saving their lives. Sonya agreed with them, if only so he'd have explanation for the mindless brutality, and eventually after telling himself to believe over and over, he did. The pain inflicted upon his kind was a repentance to Cascade for their transgressions, payment for their sanctuary.
It was in his early days of stallion-hood that he encountered a wing-brother but a hoof's count younger than he. Perseus he was called, a pegasus who'd been given as a sacrifice to Cascade but survived. A living icon of all that was wrong with the Talori, Sonador offered his services to the outcast. Though he was unable to leave his family who remained in Aquore, he became a spy for the new primary of a faction called Freedom's Flight. Relaying them information in the resistance's infant stages, the blood bay worked tirelessly to keep his involvement a secret; he lived a double life for years, concealing his duties from friends and parents. With his unassuming and gentle nature none suspected him of subterfuge in the slightest. He was an ideal resource.
As they grew however, Sonya started to question Perseus' methods. He had the mind of a military commander: all Talori were the enemy. Though Sonador saw the unrighteousness inflicted upon his wing-brothers and sisters just as much, he knew that not every citizen of Aquore did so out of hatred. It was social standard, and so they followed it. Those in charge were the ones that had to be convinced, but while Freedom's Flight prepared for battle, he tried to convey ideals of peace and equality. When he finally realized how bent on domination his friend was, he'd had enough. He stopped communicating with them, all of them, and kept to himself.
Slowly but surely he took to his father's craft of music and became an Entertainer. Striving to make others happy in an attempt to fill his own void. Time passed, and Sonador learned to rely on himself more every day. He took in a young Pegasus colt whose parent had been sacrificed to Cascade and through raising him, was able to find peace and happiness in helping others. That colt, named Helios, was the only one Sonador ever adopted as his own. They were close friends, with Sonya working trial-and-error throughout the rearing process. Neither of them knew how to fill their respective roles properly and that suited them just fine. Helios even learned how to sing and performed with his father to try and keep the Pegasus spirit in the herd alive.
It wasn't until Helios reached adulthood that he broke the news to Sonya. The stallion wished to leave his father and journey to other lands, other herds. He wanted to find a place where Pegasi were respected, even loved by their fellows, so perhaps he could bring those ideas back with him. Sonador warned him that he would not be welcomed back kindly, and though Helios accepted this he replied that he had to try. It was the path that Cascade wanted for him, and the path he wanted for himself. So Sonador saw off his son, and from there on though he would become attached to the foals he cared for, he'd never treat them as is own for fear that they would follow in his hoof-steps.
And then, for the first time in forever, he was contacted by a member of Freedom's Flight. They wanted him to situate a new spy in Aquore, a contribution to the cause he'd long since parted ways with. Izel she was called, an independent mare with the sort of attitude Perseus liked; she was a soldier, but she was no spy. Sonador took her under his wing, not because he owed anything to Freedom's Flight, though he was surprised they'd even resorted to calling upon him. No, he didn't want her to die a needless death when he could help her. She was all-together resistant to his 'interference' with her mission. Though he admired her zeal and loyalty, he worried about her deeply. Even after she decided she was ready and left to fulfill the task she'd been assigned, he kept a careful eye on her, to keep her safe from a distance.

All his life, Sonya's tried to be a good guy; he's always done what he believes is right, but also what would hurt others the least. Caring about others is in the stallion's nature; more than once he's taken in a stray whether horse or otherwise and lent them a hoof. Happiest when surrounded by the laughter of friends, he'll do whatever it takes to make them smile when they're down. Having a natural knack for creating, especially music, he'd put his talents to good use when he lived as a Talori. Following a rather active early adulthood with Freedom's Flight, he realized just how little he knew about the world; in his mind he had no justification for trying to change it. Becoming a passenger in his own life, Sonya found it difficult to make decisions that would have significant impact on himself and those around him. Clinging hopelessly to ideals he was unwilling to bring to fruition, he believes now that he was right to do so: he regrets repeating the mistake he once made, but making amends now would be impossible. Knowing this he wishes for nothing more than the fighting to come to an end so he can reconcile with everyone he's hurt. When all is said and done, Sonya's past caught up with him in the worst way. His role as a Flock member in his youth had sealed his fate; more than anything he regrets meeting them that day. He's too afraid to leave now; they're the only ones he can believe in to end it all. Even so he's a double-agent; while he never revealed his dealings with Freedom's Flight to the Talori, he abandoned them. At this point he sees himself as a monster; he's a monster with a job to finish.
