DaSassy

Runik trotted once more through the herds that decorated the plains, his head on a swivel. Every pale mare or dark stallion caught his attention, his eyes lingering until he assured himself they weren’t who he was looking for. He was surprised that the stallion and mare had disappeared so quickly. Had he hesitated longer than he thought? It felt like it was only a couple minutes, but maybe it had been longer. He paused to survey the mass of horses, still seeking out that pale coated mare or the dark painted stallion. The mostly flat landscape didn’t lend well to his attempts, but he didn’t spy any hills or rises close by. Just as he let out a frustrated sigh and resigned himself to having to do things the hard way, he heard footsteps approaching him. Turning his head, he was surprised to see a mare approaching him, his eyes flicking from her to what he assumed was her herd behind her. She was a small bay with some odd white spotting across her body, her cute face regarding him

“It’s beautiful out, isn’t it?” Breeze commented as she glanced at her best friend.  Magpie looked up from her grazing, taking the time to look around the meadow. The sun had just set behind the valley’s distant mountains, but there was still enough light to see by. The sky was still painted with various pinks and oranges from the sun shining on wispy clouds. Starting to appear from the grass and bushes were tiny blinking lights, signaling to each other as they took to the air. As the light dimmed more, the fireflies would be out in force to do their nightly dance. “Yeah…” Magpie breathed softly, finally bringing her head around to meet her friend’s eyes. Movement in the distance behind Breeze caught her attention, her companion also turning to see what she was looking at. The shadows seemed to be moving among the trees, eventually coalescing into a large, black horse stepping out of the darkness. The stranger paused, looking around the meadow, their gaze lingering in their direction
