Flag of Hate? by DarthRoden Flag of Hate? by DarthRoden
I Don't Know About You But I Am Sick And Tired Of Hearing People Complain That The Southern Cross Battle Flag (or Confederate battle flag, or Rebel flag) Is A Symbol Of Racism To African-Americans.
It Seems That Not All Black Men In The South Or The Rest Of America Share That Viewpoint, Even If It Seems That Most Do. Thankfully There Are More And More Individuals Disagreeing With Such Wrong-Thinking Monolithic Mindsets.

The Misuse Of This Flag By Racists Should Disgust Anyone Of Southern Descent Who Understands Its True History And Heritage.
Men And Boys Of All Races And Religions Served Under The Confederate Southern Cross, 260,000 Of Which Died In A Terrible War. Their Blood And Their Memories Are Woven Into The Fabric Of That Flag.
Those Who Advance Hateful Causes Taint The Memories Of Those Men And Corrupt What Most Southerners Today Consider The Living Symbol Of Southern Identity, An American Banner Second Only To That Of Flag Of The United States Of America.

Yeah true that. Just as long as it's not on Federal buildings or stuff like that xD. But I completely agree with your point the flag isn't racist but some of the people who tot it around are.

Some people who tote the US flag around are racist. Some who tote the Gadsden Flag are too.
For that matter some who tote the Christian Flag are, and some who tote the Rainbow Flag also tend to preach hatred too.
Regardless of all that, none of those symbols -- the Southern flag included -- are themselves inherently racist, nor stand for racism in the hands of those who are not, and who I believe in all case represents a far FAR bigger majority.
I also agree that the Confederate battle flag should not fly in Federal buildings (except on designated holidays like Confederate Memorial Day -- and only for that day, and never above the US flag for any reason). I would disagree in the case of the grounds of government buildings in historical displays, or at Confederate Monuments (which should all display Confederate battle flags) and only ONLY in the context of honoring the Southern soldier and not the Confederate government itself.
Almost certainly it should fly over Confederate grave sites, and be displayed in museums (though most of the original battle flags generally are anyhow).
Finally, those who misuse that flag to intimidate others in any way should always be opposed, and should never be given credibility with that symbol for any reason whatsoever.

Ok, then explain jimcrow crow. You can't just say the south wasn't racist if there was Jim crow

Um, I don't believe that I said that the Southland wasn't racist. Every human society has some degree of bigotry, even the most so-called progressive ones.
Also I don't know what "jimcrow crow" is. I think you mean "Jim Crow" as in Jim Crow Laws.

Again I don't get what that has to do about the 21st century and modern interpretations of Confederate heritage.
Those things might have started from the war, but there was at least 152 years of history since that time -- much of it quite positive in point of fact.

There was a unit toward the end of the war called the 1st louisiana native. it was all black with white officers. They fought and died for the confederacy. As a collector, I own 2, as well as a reichstadt flag and the imperial rising sun . All three Icons of defeated causes.

Don't even think of comparing the flags of National Socialist Germany and Imperial Japan to the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. The latter is light years past anything those other two even thought of meaning.
Also the 1st LA Native Guards started out as a Confederate unit at the beginning of the War, then many became Union soldiers after the US conquered New Orleans. Regardless of that there were black men serving individually in Confederate units for the four years of the war.

Folks I want to apologize to anyone who read the ugly comments by this individual before I blocked them.

My response:
"Well speaking as a librarian and someone who has studied this subject for close to 25 years, and read more history books on the subject that you've probably had pieces of ass; I can assure you that the fella in that photo probably has a much wider view of history and modern Southern heritage than you clearly do. Also your obscene use of racist language, you calling this man a "token" and the n-work disgusts me, and I am not blocking your sorry ass. This Southern man in the photo and many other like him no matter what color of their skin, are worth a million of you.

As a historian, there are many things I can't say about the American Civil War. I can say two things however. First, for all intents and purposes, the South has been put on a stool of everlasting repentance. The second, it does not belong on that stool. Every nation has done things they are not proud of (not just the South). The South deserves to be treated with the same respect as any other nation.

By no means do I say the South was right. But at the same time, I cannot and will not reduce them to a one-dimensional character of ignorant racists. The Confederate flag has many meanings. The original meaning was to respect those who fought and died for their heritage. That, I can respect.

Yeah but what would be the point? Sure the Dukes would have fought against 'The System'(Boss Hogg) but without the Flag to point out the parallel,(South= Dukes, North=Hogg), it wouldn't be unique enough.

A burning cross is a sign of racism. Does that mean all crosses and crucifixes should be banned?

I have said before, many times, hatred, bigotry, racism reside in the hearts of racists, not in inanimate objects. Those who see racism in the Battle Flag are the real racists.

The Solid South or Southern bloc, as a voting block, has turned decisively conservative. Tearing down the Battle Flag is an opening salvo in the left's attempts to destroy Southern culture, thereby making inroads into that voting bloc. It's all a scam perpetrated by leftist socialists.

I'm not a rightist, but I still believe that the Confederate flag should be allowed to be flown, and confederate monuments should be allowed to stay up. I'm a huge history nerd, and it saddens me to see history removed from existence.
