Hey guys, I'm planning on streaming this weekend. I will be working to finish up my two outstanding commissions between now and then, as well as some of my personal pieces, but I will most likely be able to do some free doodles for those who show up. :D

As always, I'll update this entry when I go online (and likely forget to update it when I go offline, but just assume that if it says I've been online for two days, it's a lie.) Here's the link to my Picarto site. :D
www.picarto.tv/live/channel.ph…

Commissions:
1. CharlotteChambers: 50%
2. AnnK: 33%

I am still open for regular commissions, here's the information if you'd like one. I have a long way to go before I meet my goals for my trip to Sweden in July!   Commissions, Trades, and all that JazzOkay, so I've gotten some notes lately about these things, so I shall make a post for what's going on with me art-wise at the moment.
I am really doing well on my artistic motivations, I've mostly recovered a lot of dexterity I had lost over the years in my right hand due to carpal tunnel/tendonitis/being an old lady. Lately I'm unable to stop sketching and I have tons of personal work in a happy little pile in various states of completeness, and I'm taking my time with those.
Now, that said, I've gotten several notes and comments asking about commissions, trades, requests, and collabs lately. So, I'll start using these button thingies that other artists use. I'll probably make a special journal to keep the status' up all the time, along with a pricing list. Until then, if you want a commission, just note me. The general price range is
Sketch: $10 +$2 for each additional character or complex background.

Hey guys, I just thought I'd let everyone know to expect some delay until this weekend or Monday in regard to commission work (though I should have my part of a sketch trade for the OC Xchange group up pretty soon, just in traditional media.) I am building a new computer and also dealing with power outages due to the recent ice storms. :P

Anyway, when I get it all sorted out, I should be able to get back to work.^_^

It's that time again! I'd like to feature a few other artists who spend a lot of their free time in other worlds.

If I didn't feature something of yours and you want in, there are five free slots. If you ask via comment, and your art has a general theme of deriving from your own world (i.e. not fanart), featuring stunning animals, or in a science fiction setting (fantasy is allowed, but I'm pickier because, ya know, I'm a scientist and stuff...) I'll slide ya in at the bottom and feature the work you've done that I dig the most. :D

So, anyway, here we go!

1. :iconsuzidragonlady:
Her owls are SO FLUFFY! :squee: Also, nifty character sheet.
Snowy Owly by suzidragonlady The Scribe by suzidragonlady Teckon - Reference by suzidragonlady

2. :iconbrittanywillows:
This artist's book, 'The Calypsis Project', is a great read. Her aliens are fantastic, and *ahem* she drew one of my characters and made me faint from the awesome. :faint:

3. :iconchill13:

Okay, so I've gotten some notes lately about these things, so I shall make a post for what's going on with me art-wise at the moment.

I use a wide variety of styles and techniques, I'm always trying to evolve my skillset, so if you'd like to see me try a certain style or technique, just ask. :D

In regard to trades, always note me. I may or may not accept, but this is almost always based on how busy I am. IRL, I do research, geological surveys, have a boyfriend, a dog, friends, family, ongoing classes and physical therapy, in addition to re-writing my first novel, various other small writing projects, and drawing. So I will never turn folks down based on their level of skill. For all my previous experience at doing art for money, it is now just a hobby.
If I turn you down, it is either truly because I am too busy or because I am not interested in the subject. It's been a long time since I turned anyone down for that reason.

Requests, gifts, and kiribans are for friends only. If you are my friend, i.e. we have had conversations via comments on dA, have traded in the past, or you've been leaving comments and faves as I have posted work over the years, I will at least probably do a sketch for ya. :)

Additionally, I am doing Streams about once a week or so now, and usually I will do quick sketches for anyone who comes to watch me work.

Thanks for the support guys, this year is going so much better than last.

My first Creature Feature was a resounding success in quality, if not quantity, of characters submitted. They were so fantastic that I decided to sketch them all. But first, let me feature for you my favorite piece of art received for each of the characters.

Realistic Nob (Sketch) by Droakir   This is Nob! He belongs to Droakir and is a goblin engineer. What I love about Nob is that he defies the common trope of the evil, greedy, sneaky goblin. While still highly intelligent, as goblins tend to be, he's also got a strong moral compass and sees the best in people...even if, truly, they really aren't that great. His innocence along with the originality of the character concept are really wonderful. :)

Crouching D'amar - Hidden background by Myrcury-Art  This is D'Amar, who belongs to Myrcury-Art, a dear friend of mine. What I love best about D'Amar, other than that awesome nose ring, is his social awkwardness. Though, from this picture, I'd say that he knows how to rumble when he needs to! D'Amar is also very endearing as far as being a character who goes through a lot of hardship.

Seventh Ring: Boys of Summer by Quaylak Let me tell you about Seven, guys. He's one tough cookie, and after reading some of his story posted by Quaylak , I'm pretty impressed with him so far. I love him for his emotional scars as much as for his virtues. Most people cannot go through the forge of terrible circumstances and come out whole on the other side. I've always loved the characters who SHOULD have been the most amazingly straightforward good guy, but end up being more of an anti-hero because the circumstances required them to either adapt or perish. Seven is that sort of character, and I love him for it.

Will that be everything? by Saetje This is Saetje 's character Elena. The thing I love about her is that she reminds me of my sister. IRL, I have a fraternal twin who is autistic. She is super friendly, completely socially awkward, and the ultimate fangirl for a number of nerdy fandoms. Elena seems very much like my sister, fishy qualities aside! Also, Elena has such an adorable design and I love Saetje 's illustrations of her interactions with other characters to itty bits.

<da:thumb id="436371324"/> Last but not least is Naranda, by kevintheradioguy . The concept, as I understand it, is that he is a being that represents magic in the equation of mysticism v. science. As a scientist IRL, I find myself with quite a number of scientist characters, and though I have a fantasy novel partially outlined, I still don't address the issue of science v. magic the way Naranda does, as he discovers more and more about the other side of the coin. Though more difficult to understand on an emotional level, I do appreciate that he is curious, as curiosity is the one thing that scientists, magicians, priests, and all other manner of seekers of truth share in common. I'm eager to learn and read more about him soon!

At last, here's a page of quick sketchy portraits I did for everyone who participated in my first Creature Feature. If anyone is interested in entering a future one, I'll do this again, I quite enjoyed getting to know all of these characters and their creators. :D

Ok, so I'd like to do a feature of other people's original characters, particularly those which are some sort of alien, supernatural creature, or otherwise not entirely human. Of course, if you want to submit a character of yours that is a human, that's fine too.

Oh, and one more thing. It has to be a character that you LOVE, who is real to you, whose story moves you.

Since this is the first time I've done something like this, I'll be accepting the first fifteen posts. :D

The Rules:

1. Submit a thumbnail in reply to this journal.
2. Tell me the character's name.
3. In a couple of sentences, tell me why you love him/her/it
4. I will take the first fifteen submissions and feature them in a journal post, and I will comment on all the submissions in depth. :D
5. No need to do anything except show me how much you love your OC! (keep it clean, yo... :hump:  )

Okay, so I've been a bit distracted this month for many many reasons.

Most importantly, my best friend had a baby on Christmas! Her name is Cecilia Rose and she's my goddaughter and I love her to bits. Funny thing is, my friend and I met on dA years ago. OE, as I call her (Other Erin) encouraged me back when my art was total mud and helped me become so much better. She lived in Arizona and I in Arkansas, but eventually I got together the money and went to see her. Years later, she was looking for a new place to live and chose to move here and I quickly got her a job with me at the video game store I was working at at the time. Now, for months I'd been griping about my manager, how he was such a grouch and stuff; I was, to be fair, a whiny bitch at the time due to personal problems. Hehe, of course, OE got here ready to fight the good fight against my nemesis, but...well, long story short, they were married this year and had baby Ce. I feel special for being part of what brought her out here. Though a bit sleep deprived right now, they're very happy together. Everything is so awesome on that front, I'm trying to go over there as much as possible so OE can get sleep and have company. Being a new mom is rougher than I'd imagined. :)

Nextly, I bought a new car. Well, new to me. It was a Chevy Aveo and I loved it for three whole days. But then it exploded and I had to strong-arm the dealership over it, and came out of the deal with a much nicer car in the end. Let's hope this one behaves!

I also got a little dachshund puppy named Abby. She's adorbz, though very clingy and not yet entirely clear on where she should go potty. We're working on it. ^^;

Lastly, i got a job at a hotel as a night auditor. My schedule is hinky right now due to me gobbling up all the hours I can to make ends meet, but it's a great place to work; most of the time, I just sit here on my computer.

Anyway, art is still in the works, just getting used to these changes, since my life kinda all of a sudden went in a whole new direction in a sense. Be patient with me, I'll post soon!

I'm not dead yet.

I've been diagnosed with lupus. The past six months have been hell and between the pain, the hopsital visits, and the endless false starts at trying to fix things. But I think I'm getting better.....I hope I am.

I'm sorry to anyone I've upset by being offline. I thought I'd emailed all my customers, but it looks like I may have missed one or two. Mostly I'm sorry to my friends. Last week someone called asking my mom if I'd passed away. I realized then that I couldn't keep being afraid of getting back online. I don't know what was wrong with me other than depression to keep me afraid of logging on...I guess my anxiety of facing everyone got worse with each passing month, and in all the shit I was going through IRL, I did the wrong thing in deciding not to face up to people.

I will be at Rocket City Furmeet, if anyone there wants to look for me in the dealer's den. I've got a lot of artwork I'll be adding to my page here in the next few days. Gotta go get a new scanner first, mine is broken. o.o

For now, I'm uploading a pic I colored last night for myself (since this gallery really has more of my personal work anyway).

Ok, so I cleaned up my gallery. I deleted most of the stuff that is over a couple of years old.
I intend to redraw a lot of the things I took down. I really loved the emotion behind the pictures, but it was time to archive them and say goodbye. ^^
If anyone wants anything that I've taken down, let me know and I'll send a copy along.

I'm gonna be at The Gathering in a couple of weeks, and then I'll be at Anthrocon two weeks after that. I can't wait.

I'm glad to be back and more active. I've been neglecting dA for my Furaffinity account, but I'll be posting new art here very very soon.

Thanks to everyone who has been patient with me, and thanks to all my old dA friends for still watching me even though I rarely post these days. Camstdragon, Webby, SightHoundLady, Herisheft, Biancamarou....I miss you guys especially.

CONTEST WINNERS: PLEASE EMAIL ME! I need to know what you want, I can't draw prizes until you send something telling me what you want. XD

If there is ANYONE I owe art to that I've forgotten about during my slump, please REMIND me. Artists are busy and forgetful people. There are some commissions I've been waiting on for years on. I periodically remind people and eventually it gets done.
I've never met  the artist who didn't need prodding now and then. We all make ends meet by taking commissions and sometimes we just forget one. I never intended to forget the one I did, but it happened and I'm sorry.

So please, anyone else out there, note me or email me and just let me know. I don't think there was anyone else, but I'll just make sure before I do my other commissions.

Ladies and Gentleman, the Daro is back!

After a huge slump I have started drawing again. The main catalyst has been MFF, where I drew until my wrist fell off but more than made back the cost of my trip, including all the things I commissioned from other people and all the wonderful crap I bought for my friends and family.

I still have two commissions to finish, but one is a digital and the other is for a friend who lives in town. In fact, here's my list of work:

1. Commissions for Arcane
2. Trade with Neverwench
3. Artxchange pic from 5,000 years ago
4. Danji's character sheet
5. Stark's pr0n

There, that's it. I am now open for commissions and trades again. My rates have changed to the following, though:

For one character, minimal to no background, on 8 1/2 x 11 bristol.

Crappy Sketch: $5
Good Sketch: $10
Line Art: $15
Coloring (markers or photoshop): $40
Character Sheets: $40-$60, depending on medium and complexity.
Color Badges: $20
B+W Badges: $10

I often work on larger paper. Ask if you want something bigger. Also, if you want more than one character, add on 50% of the cost for whatever medium. For example, two sketched characters are $15, while two full color characters would be $60. :)

Commissions and shtuff!

Sat Jun 25, 2005, 9:17 AM
I'm now open for commissions! :D

A random rant:

I hate daily devaitions. I'm not alone here. The ones who pick those need to have their heads examined.

It's like "OMFG ITS A BEWBIE! TRUE ART!"

Numbnuts, nudity is just fine in art, but it's been done to death by now. I for one get sick of being blinded by the thumbnails on the dA main page. I'm not close-minded, but you know what? Children DO visit this website. Hell, children are members.
Tania Walker posts a drawing of her ducks having some tasteful nekkid cuddling, doesn't even show a nipple. Yet she's forced to take it down.
But if you take a picture of your tits, and JUST YOUR TITS, and add some semi-clever words to it, OHMYGAWD You get a DAILY DEV!"

Puh-leeze. What a lousy system. It's truly insulting to all the artists on dA with REAL talent. :fork:

Rant over. ^_^

Sin City is so damned violent! Wow, truly wow.
And I love Elijah Wood in it, even if he is a cannibal. That hobbit went BAD.

Rargh, not much for writing tonight, but I got some really nice ideas for how to write a few scenes, so that's good.

Not much else to report here. Sorry to be boring. :P

Ah, on a sidenote: What happened?
Used to be I'd upload a deviation and get, like, at least thirty views. Now I'm lucky to get ten. I dunno, I'm not just tearing myself up about it, but I wonder what's going on with that. Ah well.

Hey guys, I got an idea!

Okay, so, I've been thinking. About something other than Draeg-Kith too. :omg: I know, I know, it's crazy! ;)

Here's my thought.
I love art trades. I really enjoyed the concept of the art trade community I'm a member of now, but lately there have been some real crapper pieces given. As fun as it may be, more and more new, lazy artists are joining and turning in stuff like ink sketches on lined paper or something so completely out of character that you just, frankly, want to vomit. I think any of you who are in the same community as I am know what I'm talking about.
Now, there IS a community, of which some of you are a member, that DOES have standards, and that is PE. Unfortunately, most of us are not in PE, and it's sorta exclusive (thus the 'private' part, eh?)

To the point, how many of you would be interested in helping me form an art trade club or community with a point system, for standards? Like, it isn't for competition. Just to be sure people don't turn in crap. The exact way this will work is something I'm going to think on, but most important is getting the soul and emotion of a character. Think of it: I know all of you have characters you LOVE. Everyone knows that I think of my own as people in their own right (some questions arise about my sanity, but I'm happy, so who cares?). It hurts when someone doesn't research enough or care enough to portray your character as themselves. It'd be like, I dunno, having Emy's Erik working at burger king or something, or having Ataskra skipping through a field picking daisies (in human clothes). Ain't gonna ever happen, and unless it's purely for laughs, it hurts to see things like that. ><

One thing I hate: themes. Now, don't get me wrong; themes can be great, but IF we do them, we'll take a poll and see what people WANT to do. None of this "Draw your super angsty dark character, dressed up for Halloween!" stuff that ends up happening in some communities. If we all want to be goofy one month, fine, but not ALL THE TIME.

Anyway, so who's with me? Just leave a comment if you're interested; if there's at least six of you who wanna give this a shot, then I'll get cracking.

One is the loneliest number...

Wed Mar 9, 2005, 6:00 AM
The contest results can be found here: daroneasa.deviantart.com/journ…

I'm really at a lonely place right now...
IRL, I'm surrounded by people who just aren't like me, and that's okay. At the same time I'm suffocated and starving for someone to talk to. I dunno, it all sounds so melodramatic. I just need some real companionship. Several of you are really awesome, kindred spirits. But of course, my real problem is an almost complete lack of contact with people like you guys IRL. There's one professor at my college, and she is really nice and I feel like I can talk to her, but she's, ya know, a professor and has more important things to do than listen to me gush.
I suppose there's nothing for it, I can't think of any biography about a writer that didn't mainly deal with how lonely an occupation it can be.
On that note, you all might know I'm engaged...and that isn't going so well. I'm really really starting to think this won't happen. Won't go into detail, but, yeah.

I wrote two and a half chapters in the past week. I'm sorta at a block on how to pull off this extremely important, pivotal section that deals with a major battle and Daro's ascension to the throne. Ras doesn't get a lot of attention in these parts, and it sorta frustrates me still to write from Daro's POV. At least I can use Ataskra some. He's quite exciting; never know what he's gonna do until I start writing, ya know?
