Thank you so much to everyone who waited patiently for this part, I truly hope it was worth it.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about New York City. I tried doing research, I really did, and I found some fruit as you can see; but I'm sure that there are many inaccuracies and I beg you forgive them. :(

Other things: The dog form Mr. Mortality took is called Cù-Sith. It's a creature of Scottish legend, known as a harbinger of death. I had written Mr. M to take this among many other forms related to global death mythology, before making some changes to the world building that resulted in one death form per Reaper. As I was already well into writing MM&HC by the time I made this change, I decided not to bother about changing the plot of this version to keep up with new world-building. Future versions of this story will take this change into account, among others.

The year is 1896, and Michael MacBranain is in desperate need of a job.
Fortunately for him (or perhaps not-so-fortunately), the Grim Reaper is also in desperate need of an assistant!
The trouble is, Michael is terribly superstitious and loathes himself for his own cowardice.

But with a dark supernatural force on the loose in New York City, there may be more at stake for Michael and his employer than just job security!

A multi-part short story, serving as a prototype for the future web-serial Mortality, the episodic adventures of the Grim Reaper and his assistant. While this story is not as well-researched or polished as I hope for the actual series to be, Sweating a little... it does give something of an idea of what I'm going for character and story-wise. I hope you enjoy this debut~

This was a really fun read (I too have been anticipating the next instalment).
I quite like the clear way you describe things in this story (like the heart surrounded in chains) gives me a very clear mental image of the characters and setting.
It's interesting learning more about the way this world (and it's magic system) works. I can't wait for more :D
