EH?! I've been tagged by
! But... I just did one of these things a few days ago. That can only mean that the chain of questionnaires has looped back into itself! Well... I guess there's no sense in turning this one down now. After all, by answering that last one, I left myself wide open for this to happen. I guess the more I do it, the easier it will get, or so they say,
or were they talking about murder? cough cough
Ahem, yes, the questions! Brace yourself for more terrifying honesty!
that last part was mostly addressed at myself
Oh, and I suppose since I'm already flagrantly violating the rules by not tagging more people, there's no real sense in posting them again. 1. What do you do to relax when you feel stressed?
The depends on what it is that's causing me stress. If it's a general feeling, I usually just play video games and try to tune out... which, depending on the specifics of the situation, may backfire. I might also listen to this
Touhou remix, which is perhaps the most soothing piece of music I've heard in my life. Even if I'm feeling really
strong anxiety, that piece can take a significant amount of the edge off. I may even be able to face the problem directly whilst listening to that music in the background. Last, but not least (perhaps even most
), I could talk to one of my very few friends. That last one wasn't an option for me until relatively recently, but actually having someone to talk to
other than talking to myself
can be very helpful.2. Do you have a favorite video game / video game series?
It's difficult to pin down an exact favorite, because each time I get into a really great game, it temporarily feels like it's my favorite, but once the novelty has worn off, it usually isn't. I'm currently playing Monster Hunter World, so maybe I would say that Monster Hunter is one of my favorite game series, however, considering how many hours I sunk into Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and how much I played Tri and 3 Ultimate relative to other games at the time, I think that Monster Hunter really is
a strong contender for my favorite series. The Dark Souls/Bloodborne games are also pretty high on the list, but I think Monster Hunter would still win. I'm going to cheat and consider this as two separate questions, because it would be a crime if I didn't mention Terraria as one of, if not my favorite stand-alone game.3. Do you enjoy anime? If so, what are some you're watching at the moment?
I used to watch a lot of anime; I was even in my college's anime club for a while, but I don't watch it so much anymore. I guess I just found other things I wanted to do, and failed to make time for it. I am
currently watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, though, but you already knew that because you read the tidbits above the journal proper, right?
That is, I'm watching it dubbed, on TV, one episode per Saturday night. It's a small enough time commitment that I can easily make room for it in my, er... admittedly empty schedule. Anyhow, sometimes watching things the old-fashioned way can work better than binging.4. What is your ideal career?
I wish I knew...
I've already done some serious soul-searching, and no dice, but to be fair I wasn't specifically thinking about this one issue.
In life, I just kind of took the path that seemed most straightforward, and this is something I now deeply regret.5. Are you in school currently and do you enjoy it?
I am not in school at the moment, no, and I don't particularly enjoy school. I guess that's bad? The only classes I really seem to like are philosophy (which one cannot really get a job in) and psychology (which it is too late for me to major in). Rote memorization really
kills me, and some classes, such as human anatomy, seem to be comprised almost entirely of that. I don't like math, either, which is strange, because math is technically just a type of formalized logic, and I love logic, so...? Maybe it's because I struggle to memorize the various equations. 6. What do you enjoy to create the most?
That's a good question, and it's one that is a little difficult to answer. I would say 'long stories', but I have never actually finished one of those, and on DA I've only really made 4komas, so it's hard to say I like doing something that I, historically, have hardly ever done. I suppose it is because I have lots of ideas for these things floating around in my head. Such story ideas slowly congeal over time into a (somewhat) full plot; you may recall from my journal entry on NaNoWriMo (if you're one of the two and a half people who read all the way through it) that the ideas for my WriMo novel were born from this same process.
I even have several ideas for a Walfas series floating around, too, so the biggest question is whether it is my lack of spine, or my lack of ability that is most greatly hindering the creation of such a thing.7. What are some ways you are trying to improve when it comes to what you make? (does not have to be on DA)
I'm not entirely sure, actually.
I wish I had a plan here, but I really haven't got a clue. Usually one of two things will happen: 1. I'll need to use a certain technique for a comic, or 2. I'll see a really nice technique someone else used in a comic, and want to replicate it. Note when I say 'technique', I mean that in the broadest of terms. For example, I used to have all characters sized at 100%, I didn't previously have characters angle their heads, I've improved displays of emotion (crown as 'shocked' mark, more dynamic placement of sweat, blue face with eyes layered), etc. In the words of Robots' Bigweld "See a need, fill a need."
The problem then, lies in actually seeing the thing that could be improved, and when basically nobody ever actually critiques my work, I sometimes struggle to find methods of further improvement. I'm not saying people can really be blamed for ignoring the less egregious errors, but as paradoxical as it sounds, my frail ego would probably do better if I knew people were
willing to point out relatively benign mistakes, so I wouldn't worry that I actually did something wrong, and nobody said anything.8. Do you create things outside of DA?
The way the question is worded seems to imply some sort of continuity in a way that "have you created things outside of DA" does not, so in that respect, I'm not sure if I can say yes. I have
written five Steam guides for Terraria, made a handful of Youtube videos, and made a decently-sized adventure map for Terraria, so that's not nothing, I suppose. I sort-of created some games in RPG Maker, too, but those were never realeased to the public. I don't know if my NaNoWriMo novel counts as creating something, especially since it isn't actually finished. I'd like to create more things in basically all of those categories, but I'm not confident that I will actually end up doing so anytime soon.9. What is your favorite Touhou character?
As I mentioned way back when, that would be Alice. One of, if not the first Touhou MMD I watched was a series titled "Social Anxiety Alice", and I think that pretty much answers this question right there.10. What is your favorite story? (Anime, books, film, etc)
I'm afraid I can't really answer that. There are far too many variables in play, and I know I'd end up spending far too much time thinking about it, without producing a satisfying answer. My apologies.11. Are you currently enjoying creating things on DA?
Ha ha ha, yes. I should hope so! It would be pretty terrible if I didn't actually like Walfas, now wouldn't it? Even though a perpetual stream of 4komas is not my ultimate goal, I like to make them, as well. I wish I could do more than that (and perhaps with a stronger spine, I can), but even that much can still be an enjoyable experience.12. How do you perceive yourself?Very
It's an open secret that I have no self-esteem (though is it really even a secret at all if I'm saying it now?), so I guess this answer shouldn't come as a surprise.
It might be best not to go into more detail than that in such a public place. I wouldn't want to bother anyone here with that kind of talk.
