patterned wing flutters
zephyr caresses blossoms

This deviation is one in a set. For a little background, and a list of the complete set, please visit my Chaos Butterfly journal entry.

This is the second in the series; I composed this, more or less, in my head on the drive to work.

The 'butterfly' in the thumbnail is from Jacoba Moth, by ~d-mon.

I love well written Haikus. Because it's hard to find good Haikus, I tend to fall in love with the ones I find.
I've been hanging around the poetry section of DA for awhile now, I'm suprised I haven't come across you, or your writing before.
I plan to rectify that situation. :)

Glad you enjoyed it... ;-)

Apart from my novel (which I shall no doubt keep advertising and promoting until the sequel takes its place ;-)) I really haven't written much recently so the only way you'd ever find my stuff is by wading through the galleries. I think I've pretty much fallen below the popular radar... ;-)

If popular means writing angsty whiner stuff to get on the main poetry top favs, than it's better not to be. :)

I am not usually a fan of haiku, probably because most people can't seem to pull it off very well. but this is an extreme exception here.

these three lines provoked a lot in me, the concept of the butterfly effect has always really fascinated me, because it's just such an amazing idea, I think, and it can seem rather impossible at times, but the smallest things really can change a lot.

'the butterfly effect' is also the name of one of my favourite bands).

Glad you liked it -- and I regret that my whole "Chaos Butterfly" project fizzled out with only two entries...

It is a fascinating concept, isn't it? Even with simple events, it's so easy to start thinking "well, if X hadn't happened -- if I'd been running 30 seconds earlier or later -- then Y wouldn't have happened, and ..." and so on. Once you start getting into complex systems (and there are very few things which aren't, ultimately, part of some complex system) it really can be impossible to predict what might have been.

I actually spent quite some time playing with the mathematics that we typically use to represent Chaos theory -- even to the point of writing my own Mandelbrot set generator, before such things were popularly available -- when I was younger. (A lot younger.) It really is amazing stuff... ;-)

Hmm. If only I had a little more spare time, this might be the impetus I'd need to start on another in the series... :D

Impressive - especially since poetry generates it's own kind of butterfly effect, if you think about it. I always admire someone who can capture the essence of an image or concept within a few, restricted lines. Nicely done. I couldn't suggest any improvements.

heh, just watched a simpsons last night where homer was drinkin' beer out on the hammock when a catapiller falls into his mouth. he chokes a bit and then spits out a butterfly, classic.

I think I've seen most of the Simpsons episodes -- but I don't recall seeing that one. (But with my memory, anything's possible ;-))

"The Butterfly Effect -- coming soon to a theater near you." :D

Funny, I made all the effort of throwing in an explanation for those who hadn't heard of it, then found that Hollywood has decided to let everyone but me in on the secret anyway... :D

Cheers!
