The hostility that was to become the last great religious war -- and mankind's first interplanetary war -- had been simmering for decades, but the first actual shots were fired on October 30th, 2147, of the old Terran calendar. History generally considers the war to have begun with the surprise attack by Apple forces on the enemy colony of New Redmond on Titan, but that offensive would never have succeeded if Microsoft had seen them coming.
Few people know that the first shots of the war were fired several hours earlier, as a small contingent of Apple's forces overran an unmanned Microsoft listening post on Dione. What should have been a simple insertion by a two-drone team eventually required the deployment of six iTanks when something triggered the installation's micro-meteorite defense shield.
This is an image I produced for BlenderGuru's "Future" competition.
Edit: a friend from the Dark Side (a Mac user) pointed out that it would be nice if the Apple logo was glowing. Make it so! (So I did...)
Of course, in the exciting new world containing Cycles -- along with numerous other external rendering options -- this image is produced with Blender's internal render engine. Might be time to start experimenting, though, because it does have its drawbacks...
