Bro, I haven't done a new piece of art in over 3 years. I take that back - I did an illustration for the movie: Resident Evil: Afterlife about a year ago, but that's the only thing I've drawn in three years.
So your settings are not to blame.
All of my creative effort during that time has gone into my music. If you want to hear what I am doing now in that genre, you can go here:
I actually drew that for a contest here on dA about, oh... 2 years ago now, I guess.
As a matter of fact, that drawing represents the very last creative illustration I have produced to this point. Since I am not dead, and still possess the ability to draw, I cannot say it is definitively the last drawing I will EVER do, but I certainly feel, as of the writing of this post, that it is likely to be.
You may feel (an ever so slight, ever so mild) touch of regret at hearing (reading) those words, my friend, but I do not, having written them. I remember all of the good... and the bad (of this there was plenty), from a long career, and the prefacing adolescence and teen age years, during which my primary passion was art. Now it is not. And this is so for what I consider to be totally sound reasons. Drawing and 2D CG have been replaced by music, my second great creative passion for so long, and now my first, and I consider the change to be nothing but positive.
Who knows what the future will bring? Sometimes I feel a tremendous desire to draw again... for perhaps an hour, or even a day... but the closer I come to actually pulling out the pencils, pens, and bristol sheets which were the tools of my craft, the more rapidly the urge begins to fade.
Now, I hope you will forgive me, but my guitar is calling me from the other room.....
PS: I am working on a couple of new songs, and the CD project is now closer to completion that it is to commencement. In a week or two, I may have a track or two to send to you.
I hear ya, man. It's all good. Whatever works for you, and keeps you happy, is all that you need.
I was actually the opposite way around, when there was a time (20 yrs ago) I couldn't go a day without having a guitar in my hand for at least an hour. I always felt if I missed a day then my fingers would break or something...or I'd forget everything I ever learned. But I was never that good in the end, and stuck to composing rather than playing.
When my band split in '11 that was basically it. Now, thanks to my RSI and chronic joint problems, when I pick up a guitar I hurt and twinge like mad, sooner or later. No wonder I've taken up keyboards and jazz piano instead to keep on songwriting and composing. At least I can still type and draw, although I have no real serious urge to get back into stringed instruments again. However, I dearly look forward to hearing anything new that you have. Drop them through my usual yahoo addy once you've got 'em sorted out
