Sunny Afternoon 3

Description

I usually dislike workshops, in which a gaggle of photographers are shooting a model simultaneously. But since I had recommended the workshop to Holly, I figured I might as well tag along and see what happened. The main shooting area was a small room, with a backdrop, lit by a couple of banks of hardware store halogen lights. That allowed many photographers to shoot, without each being tethered to strobe lights. But all those halogen lights played havoc on the model, causing many parallel shadows on her. Not to mention it was hot as hell, and the color temperature was hard to manage.

Looking around for something I could do, I noticed sunlight flooding into a breakfast nook next to the kitchen. So, I pushed aside the kitty dish, removed some chairs, took away the sheet that had been thumbtacked to the wall to cover the window, and shoved in a couch from an adjoining living room. It was marvelous lighting, with the addition of a reflector propped against my knee. I must have looked pretty weird to the other photographers, crouching next to the kitchen cabinets, balancing the reflector, and stretching to get the right angle for the shot. But, sometimes amazing things can happen in difficult situations.
