Gerd

Blue Dragon Crop
So I have been playing around with one of my old digi-arts based on one of my drawings again and this is what came out as a result

Image size: 750 x 800 pixel

Incomplete Person
So a little drawing of a person, showing just a part them though as I was trying to make it look like a cropped image

Pencil, colored pencil on drawing paper

Glowing in the Dark (digi art tutorial)
So I call this glowing in the dark, because only some parts the image are standing out from the dark.
I created mine with GIMP 2 but this works on Photoshop of course as well

1) Create a new file, "canvas" background color black (It must be a very dark color in order to make this whole thing work)

2) Choose any image you like to import as a new layer to your file. I suggest to take one that is as big or even bigger than the size of background layer

3) Use the cutting mask tool to create a mask around the spot of your image you want to stand out later. The mask should have smooth edges and fade out a bit (looks better later)

4) Copy the area framed by the mask and paste it. Transform the inserted layer that you get as result of pasting into a new layer, without moving it  from the place it was in your image or adjusting it. It however must lie above the layer which is the image you chose to work with

5) Now lower the opacity of your chosen image's layer as much as you like, but if you go very low, it helps with the "glow" (my image has an opacity of 18%)

6) After that, the layer you pasted in after cutting should stick out nicely already, but to make it more impressive you can choose to ink it with another color  and/or increase the layer's brightness a bit

If you are content with the results:

7)  Merge all layers to background and save your file, then proceed to step 15)

If you want a glowing edge like on my artwork:

8) After step 6), turn your chosen image's layer opacity to full again, and resize the image so it is the size of your background layer then

9) Create another cutting mask, again with a bit of blended and smoothed edges, a bit smaller than the image on all sides

10) Invert your mask

11) Repeat step 4)

12) Lower the opacity of your chosen image's layer again to what you had after step 5)

13) Adjust your "frame" that you got from step 11) as you like, the way mentioned in step 6) (I did mine by inking it with blue, full color intensity and increased brightness)

14) If you are content with the results. merge all your layers to the background layer and save your file

15) Feel good, you have finished this tutorial and got a great looking artwork out of it :)

Note: Step 15) is not necessary but come on you deserve it, you did well!

Tip: if you choose an image that has a certain spot that peaks out a bit, like the eye of my dragon, use that spot to make it "glow in the dark". However it works with any spot of your image you choose of course just fine, too
