Shinpei Akaruika by Dark-SpectrumDS Shinpei Akaruika by Dark-SpectrumDS
This is my old OC Shinpei Akaruika. Of course this isn't a real japanese surname (I think...). I just game him that name because I was trying to teach myself Japanese a few years ago and just started again recently...

He is a smoker and is impervious to any damage caused by it (because he is a fictional character). He is also a pyrokinetic guy and teaches Blaze Fyroni (my other OC) how to use his powers and stuff... I need to develop them some more.

I used a reference and cropped out the parts I couldn't pose right.X3 I added the cigarette while I was coloring the sketch in SAI at the last minute.

Aw.D: Well, first, did you try looking around to find tips on line weight? This could help your linearts improve once you master the basics. Also, when coloring digitally, I would say to try not to use the air brush tool too often unless you are really knowledgeable about the cool things it can do to improve your work.

The most important thing to do is to train your eye to judge quality, not to necessarily directly compare your work with others. It took me about two to three years for me to develop that eye just by observing everything around me and those pro artists. This can help you to improve your art in the near future, too.:3

I'm not the best at this stuff either but I'm glad if my tips can help you in the future!^^

Thanks, I don't know jack about much of any of this, I really need to learn how to use color and shadows. If someone tells me to go monochrome one more time, I'm going to go nuts! I didn't even know what it meant the first time I heard it!

Hey, no problem!^^

XD I didn't know what that was when I was first starting out either. The only monochrome things I did were sketches that I occasionally filled in with dark pencil or pen and in more rare occasions, with the same color in Sai or something. Once you understand shading and stuff, you can do some cool things with one color (plus white and/or black).^^

Well, there is that bow I shaded. Perhaps I should try different objects?
