Venus Autopsy by dante-cg Venus Autopsy by dante-cg
Ignorance is bliss. This could be the second name of the painting.

Goddess of love, among other things, represents the human delight of infinite complexity of feeling. Love doesn't lend itself to logical analysis or even illusory control. This is a thought process phenomenon, our blind touch of multi-dimensional existence.

At the same time, your rational part is trying to sort things out. Investigate and analyze the unknowable. This is what i call a Venus autopsy. The desire to gain control leads you into a state of depression. The truth of love crumbles into knowledge pieces, which are being analyzed and lead to the wrong conclusion. The 'spark' is gone, so to speak. Somehow, everything has become too 'obvious'. It's impossible to perform an autopsy without killing.

Here's a little animated something, as a bonus)…

You are literally dissecting the classic artworks from history. It is an important concept for artists of the present to consider.

It is how we learn from our ancestors.

Thinking about love too much kills what made it exciting in the first place. It's not supposed to be this logical, solidified thing that you can grasp like...a pencil for example. Everyone makes it out to be such a describable thing and it's not. Too many people fall victim to this. Too many people, in fact society as a whole, try to institutionalize love like they institutionalize marriage. And just when they think they have love harnessed so to speak, suddenly the 'spark' goes out. Suddenly, love doesn't exist anymore. It seems gone or dead. And this, among other things, is why it's so hard for couples to stay together nowadays. We see love as something else other than what it is, specifically something we can hold onto and imprison. It's nothing of the sort. It's simply an emotion. A mental...emotional reaction. It can come anytime, any place...and just as easily disappear as if it never showed up to begin with. It's not always forever's a human emotion.
If people stopped trying to institutionalize it and accept it for what it is, they wouldn't see it as the 'spark' leaving and wouldn't feel more and more depressed about it. Relationships might actually be stronger and longer lived as a result.

I don't share your views. I think there's much joy in contemplation, analysis and knowledge. (well, depression too). And though joy is the ultimate goal, logic and analysis helps you plan and act for more substantial joy in the future. I think the painting is excellent though, and a great spin on the subject matter!

i agree with you completely. contemplation, analysis, synthesis - i'm all there. the thing is, no one can analyse such infinitely complex feeling as love. like, the whole idea of love is dependent on the factor of mystery.

i also want to point out the fact that this idea of mine was developed using contemplation and analysis :D you just gotta choose the level of perception wisely.

YES! I see a y-incision on DA!
This is really clever and...It makes me think of a journal I posted a while back. I bemoaned my bi-polar and said "I want control" but I can truly benefit and learn from my illness with SOME control, not total. I spent the first 17 years of my life in and out of depression so yeah, you're a genius.
What is the medium? if you don't mind?

This is quite a creepy image, but I love your work here! It's an excellent piece. The first thing I saw was the obvious, the stitches...then I noticed her arm and her shoulder. And yet her face appears stone like, but the uneven and chipped texture by her eyes makes it seem like she was crying. It's like she's a mix of flesh and stone, but it's hard to tell where each one begins and finishes.

This is such a different way of utilizing the Venus in a piece. I haven't seen her portrayed in this manner before, that's for sure. Fascinating, disturbing and just really well done!
