New Profile URLs

Wed Jun 27, 2018, 11:36 AM by danlev:icondanlev:
DeviantArt is constantly evaluating better ways to serve our community, from new features to smaller updates and bug fixes. Today, we're making a change to the format of profile URLs that will have a positive impact moving forward. In order to better serve you, we’re changing profile URLs from to

Don't worry, your old URLs will still work, and you can continue to use them. Your old links/URLs will always redirect to your new ones.

We know a lot of deviants are attached to their URLs, so the decision to make this change was not done lightly. Part of the decision-making process involved surveying active deviants, and we discovered the overall sentiment was fairly neutral. Most people did not strongly prefer one or the other — as long as old URLs redirected. But, most importantly, we believe this change will be beneficial for you.

Why Changing URLs Is for the Better

  • The new URLs will likely increase your traffic: Based on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts we’ve consulted with and also other sites that have made the switch, moving away from subdomains is likely to increase overall site traffic from search engines—this means more traffic to your Profiles and deviations.

  • Subdomains cause many technical challenges, inhibiting site improvement and performance. Browsers treat subdomains like different, individual sites for security reasons and, because of this, more and more website functionality is being limited to working with a single domain. Working around these restrictions makes building new features and maintaining old ones complicated, increasing the time it takes our engineers to complete projects. It also creates “buggy” circumstances while navigating the site. For example, you might have noticed that it sometimes shows the wrong artist’s name in the URL when using the “next” and “previous” buttons while browsing artwork in someone’s galleries — this is a technical limitation that is imposed by browsers for security reasons and was not possible to work around until now.

More Updates To Come!

This is a small update ahead of some major improvements we'll be making to profile and other areas of the site. You'll be hearing more in the coming months!

Hallo hübscher Junge!
Du fragtest:
  1. What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?
  2. Which part of your profile are you most proud of?
Ok,fangen wir an mit 1:
I wanna have the option to delete profile and gallery comments in a little thrashcan.
I wanna have control in my own webpage.

I wanna have urgently the option, clicking a grid in my journal.
Still understroke lines in a journal.

I wanna have on Eclipse still a blocklist with less 1000 people.

I wanna still disable the comments of my journals/Stash writer texts,if this still exists on Eclipse.

If Eclipse is awful as others say,so it should be for non-core members,
otherwise you get less opinions over it.

Its a stupid idea, letting test this only the rich.
If Eclipse really sucks,it means much more opinion in this!

I wanna finally write a note with understroke, bold or italic.

The same should stay in Journals or Stash writers.

I wanna have the option to hide the avatars.

Even,if I block people,I dont wanna see them on Deviantart anywhere else!

If Eclipse will fail, why not making the old Deviantarts green design black or grey,
but let the features,as they are!

You heard, that we need a better zoom in in Eclipso.

Did we have in Eclipse 160 folders, and if less, why!?

Is this with no ads really functionating without putting big money into it!?
That mean, people can use in emergency an adblocker from his computer.

Its important to disable comments in Eclipse of texts or arts.
Without that,Im not wanna test it!

Are all groups gone,or how you want transport all the groups to Eclipse!?

We need urgently bigger avatars!!
The smallness of the old avatars let feel people invisible and not really a part of a community.

Is a daily deviation the same as a normal Deviation!?
I heard, you need to type extra an callendar only one time per day,
to saw the art.

Can I still search art by person"I search Orochi(maru)"on Eclipse!?

Can I still have a grey filter to hide/report terrible art!?

I really hope, that Eclipse will be for free,if people dislike it yet.

I hope, that in a searchfield you can search Deviantartists by name WITH SEARCH SUGGESTIONS,
You type"F" and people with Fa Fe Fu Fo names will be shown.

A big calendar on a startpage reminding peoples birthdays.

Webcam,I hope we can use on Eclipse still coding little animations with the code:
<img src=" ">

Does our stash/pictures/texts and journals will have a thumblink as I see on the rightside of this journal!?

Can we still have icons on Eclipse,is this in development!?
Can we use the code for emoticon :icon bouncing:

Is Fella still the mascot of Deviantart Eclipse,or does you take a new ome/none!?
Will fella in the darkdesign light up in the night with neoncolour as skeleton or something like this!?

Maybe yellow font in black background!?

Can I use in the Deviantart eclipse journaltexts my favourite font without downloading it on my computer!?
I love the scripts kabayan,Amydor and Mervale script.

What happens in Eclipse with Deviantart Muro!?
Will a new Drawingprogram appear,or disappear Muro forever!?

Deviantart Eclipse should let create people logos as a special drawingprogram can(will not name it)

Can notes in Eclipse will save as draft,if the computer crash!?

Can you make in Eclipse, that comments can also save as draft,
as notes do!?

Can I change comments as many times as I want!?
Or have I limits at 6 times.

I saw that someone cry, that describing fanarts with 15 tags is too less.
Thats ridiculous.
You really doesnt need more than 15 words to describe your pictures,
because a lot of people even ignore tags and ignore even the picturedescription.

What about the pencils in the picturecorner, used for features?
I need urgently in Eclipse the change the mainfile option,
to change an unfinished picture against a now finished.

I hope, that we still have on Eclipse 250 favoritesfolder and not less.

What about our profilepicture on Eclipse.

I hope, the pictures with resolution(3500x3500Pixels)will be not shrunk/resized on Eclipse.

Like we can submit unlimited Deviations on the green Deviantart,
I hope the same is on Eclipse.

As on the normal Deviantart, you should be able to not being deactivated on Eclipso Deviantart,
as long as you dont deactivate yourself or be banned for this!

Also groupavatars should be bigger.

No deviant art stacs anymore, even if I watch a group,
I dont wanna be überfallen with art, which doesnt interess me.

Will be the friendslist removed on Eclipse instead useing the lovemeter!?
What about friendslist and short contactlists.
The friendshiplists are splitted in levels:
Best friends(always loyal,favourizing my work)
Good friends(speak sometimes to me)
Little friends(Say Hi to me)

Delete comments on my profile like"Thank you for the watch".
I dont need egoistic people interested in itself, not in me!

Advertise for the new Deviantart eclipse better!
Make Deviantart public in television-reklama,
sell your own mascot plushies and actionfigures and dont let make fans anything of it self.
Maybe the grey, boring Fella need a pinky girlfriend and the staff tells every week
a comic lovestrip about fella and his girlfriend.

Or make a paw background with leopard-pattern,lightened in neongreen for fella
and the blackdesign.

Change the backgrounddesign for each of the 4 seasons,
christmas, eastern and halloween and make contests for it!
For summer in Beach.

Let make the Deviantart-eclipsa-logofont friendlier in big and small letters
and not only in unfriendly big letters to scream.

What about colourfont in Text!?

I hope, that the pictures in my gallery will not fly loosely, that anything is stable!

2.I think its the featured Deviation, what show, what I especially like!
Will be the Featured Deviation still on Eclipse!?

Im tired so goodbye!

What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?

1. The ability to customize profiles for non-core members as well (yes I know non-core people can use basic html to customize but that still looks pretty bland; I want to be able to add a nice custom background for my profile, the same way core members put nice background on custom boxes)

2. The ability to delete comments (things like "hidden by owner" doesn't look very good)

3. The ability to upload animations in mp4 format. Currently, the only way to upload animations is in gif or flash format but flash is outdated and gif ruins the quality of an animation. I know it is possible to upload mp4 films but in order to do that, one must be accepted into the film community, which is easy for professionals but hard for a beginner, because if the beginner doesn't reach the quality level that's expected, he/she won't be able to submit mp4 files. This is a HUGE turn off for beginners. I think it's a bit discriminatory to say "you can't upload videos cause you're not good enough". I think everyone deserves to upload animations regardless of their skill level.

4. Put back DDs somewhere easier to notice! In the past, getting a DD was a huge honor and people's art would get tons of attention/views if it got a daily deviation. However, today the reward gets almost no recognition around the site because people have to manually look them up to see them. Newcomers would have no idea where they are. What's the point of someone getting a DD if their work still isn't noticed?

A better reporting system and more stringent filtration of unwanted illustrations. A website called has a better mature filter system than DeviantART has. I did a quick research of their submission guidelines after the discussion I had with my friend. Here's what their rules said about the content depicts sexual subjects.

4. User Created Content

Although Fur Affinity can display artistic renditions of adult content, the feature is disabled by default and may only be enabled via your account settings if you are legally allowed to view it in the United States (18 years of age). If we determine that you may not be legally allowed to access this content, we will restrict your access to mature and adult content until you can verify your age via government photo identification. Any attempt to bypass this measure may result in all current and future accounts registered by you to be permanently banned.

In other words...
This site has adult content, but we prevent minors from viewing it by default. Minors caught enabling it or lying about their age will have access to adult content terminated. ANY attempt to bypass this may result in a permanent ban.

Charming! The submission procedure on that site is better and more modernized than on DeviantART. :mardy: emote On that site, you must verify that you are old enough to see picture depicts sexual subjects while here on DeviantART you can fake your age with no problem. If this site can have this type of restriction, then your site can have it too. I noticed this while I was reporting unwanted content that users have addressed to their profile at You cannot view the content provided unless you are not a member of their service. Not to mention that they don't require from you to give your date of birth to view content while visiting their site anonymously, while at your service, you can circumvent this restriction without any problems. As of list of suggestions, go here.

What needs to be changed...Spread this Journal; feature it in your Journal entries, Forums, Organizations, everywhere you can. Deviantart needs to enforce etiquette policy, or this site will collapse as if it's not already started to collapse!
1. Take stricter measures against artistic thugs on deviantART site.
I'm exasperated as lynx when I see how art thieves steal illustrations from famous illustrators. What bothers me most is why it is so difficult for the Administration to solve our problems? It shouldn't be difficult to hire an Administrator to take action against copyright infringement. When an art thug or plagiarist presents a stolen illustration, you don't need the genius to look at where the works are “side-by-side.” And compare them whether they stole flat-out or mimicked them. If it makes it easy to make it compulsory that people, who are reporting for unauthorized copying, apply an overlay picture or a side-by-side example. I was several time

The only improvement I feel the need is bring back pagination to a Deviant's gallery: if the Deviant is prolific, it's likely impossible to surf all their gallery without going crazy, and a way to split the endless thumbs would be good.
janeartworks Featured By Owner Jul 16, 2018  Hobbyist General Artist
This is already possible, here's how to do it:
- go to settings
- click on "browsing"
- and then, next to "paging" choose the option "click through pages" instead of "scroll through pages"
- click "save"

1) It would be pretty cool if you could continue to use thumbnails for gallery folders, but then when it comes to the sub-folders they can be links.
I say that mainly because yeah I had fun making some custom icons for my folders in my gallery but then going into said folder and it's the big clunky thumbnails of ordinary DevArt for the subfolders, I mean I don't want to go and make extra custom icons for the gallery subfolders too and to change it back to the links again would change the folders in the gallery too and I'd personally just find it a bit more... visually nice to be able to keep the subfolders as links while keeping the main gallery folders as thumbnails that can be customised.
Bit small/petty/mainly for 'aesthetics' but I can't really think of any other improvement I'd like to see to the profiles and such right now, I probably could if I thought about it for a while but nothing's particularly glaring at me right now and the folder thing is only because I recently worked on them.

Though that being said I do agree with other users that more customisation abilities for non-core/premium members would be super! T'is an art site after all and shelling out for the core/premo stuff to be able to express ourselves better is just kinda flat.

Anyway before I go off on a tangent or manage to make even less sense
2) The part of my profile I'm proud of is the thumbs I made for my gallery folders tbh I haven't yet ventured too far into the big profile-changing things just yet largely because I know my design tastes can vary a bit so I've been cautious about commiting but still, something to do soon.

I'm not sure if there's much of a point to me saying this because what's done is done, but I just want to raise attention to it in case any other people are having the same issues: Pretty much since the exact day this change was implemented, my average pageviews per day has actually dropped significantly and gone all sporadic. I'd been growing slowly and steadily before the change, so this has got me both irritated and worried. Maybe it's just a stroke of bad luck, but I don't think I like it.
Sootness Featured By Owner Jul 8, 2018 to

I don't like this change at all. A "/" can't be put in file names, and it doesn't look nice on pictures. And it's not really, it's actually Not a pretty look at all.
However, as long as I can keep using my old url, and can keep sharing it, and can keep pasting it on my images, and can pretend the new url doesn't exist I'm happy anyway! :)

1. What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?

More customization for non-core people. It's an art site, please let us have more art on our corner of the site :) Like a header or background image that we can make ourselves :)

I would like to be able to place the Activity widget in the Misc Zone under the Comments. I don't like how the extremely long Activity feed pushes away the comments so far that they're almost hidden.

Please don't remove the ability to customize the links above our profile page! I like having shortcuts to things I need :)

2. Which part of your profile are you most proud of?

The DeviantID part is my favourite :)

This is my list for Deviantart to be improved.
1) Be strict with fetishes on Deviantart. I don't see want to see diapers, futanari, guro, inflation, extreme body growths, quicksand, vore, crushing, rape, abusive relationships, weight gaining, oversized body parts, people getting stuck, feet, bestiality, farting, scat, farting, extreme bondage, male pregnancy, bizarre transformation or fusions, wedgies, torturing, drowning, and incest. I may have some fetishes but I don't want to see this nasty content.
2) Bring back the Premium membership.
3) Ban all the pedophiles. I get sick and tired of people posting sexual artwork of underage characters like Sailor Moon and the Powerpuff Girls. But also because there are minors in the website and I don't want anybody being stalked on this website if they are 17 and younger. I don't care if the age of consent is 13 in Japan but Deviantart follows American laws with adults being used for sexual artwork.
4) If people are posting journals or status updates I want to see people talking about art. I don't want to see them talking about their personal life or society. This is not Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, or Instagram.
5) Have a better search engine. I'm typing in any word and I see artists posting artwork that have nothing related to the word or it's nasty fetishes.
6) Original artwork needs to recognized more likely on this website because fan art seems to be more popular.
7) I like to say that their needs to be used for the term original character. I want to see original characters and artwork that artists have used their own stories. But whenever I see original characters on the search engine they are mostly fan characters that are in fandoms like Dragon Ball because they are Mary Sue/Gary Stu/Self-insert original characters.
8) I see photographers posting sexual content of naked people. I don't want to see this nasty stuff. I want too see artists drawing and painting their own sexual artwork.
9) They need to get rid of art thieves. I'm mad that there are people posting artwork that doesn't belong to them but also tracing, bases, recolours, Photoshop editing, and posting screenshots from movies, television series, video games, comic books, and articles. This is really copyright infringement.
10) Bring back the original logo and old design for Deviantart. I can't tell if it's a D or an A.
11) Get rid of the trolls and cyberbullies. I hate seeing people making hurtful comments to artists on their artwork, journals, or profiles.
12) Fix the Report Deviation. There are too many people not following the rules on Deviantart and it gives the website a bad reputation.

YES on all points!
HermesDiAngelo Featured By Owner Jul 5, 2018
Oh wow it's nearly completed list XD

Maybe the staff should add a report user like in point no.12, it's hard to dealing with nasty users instead instant block them.
And for the point no.4, I'm quite disagree because journal or status posts shows any kind of artist's update. Instead block them, just go to watch's setting and uncheck the things you don't want to see. It's helpful to make the notification looks neat.

Look like you really miss the old DeviantArt..
janeartworks Featured By Owner Jul 5, 2018  Hobbyist General Artist
Wow you've got quite a list there XD
I agree with everything you said here, though there are 2 things that are a bit subjective.

Regarding nr 4, yes that would be ideal, but you can't completely ban people from talking about what they want, especially if it's on their own journals/statuses and not in forums or chatrooms.

As for nr 6, that would also be ideal but, unfortunately, you can't control what people click and look at. Popularity depends on how many people click and view something. The reason why fanart is more popular is because many people click on it. If they didn't click, fanart wouldn't get many views. However, I do understand your point of view. This could discourage some people to make original art which is not a good thing.

Also, regarding nr 7, there are actually 2 different terms to describe both types of characters. Original characters are known as OCs and fan characters are known as FCs. The reason why people sometimes confuse them is because the term OC is sometimes misused.

I also agree to giving Non Core more customization. I would NEVER tell Non Core "Too Bad, Pay for Core. -Yadda Yadda Yadda-" as I agree with so many users here, that more customization would be awesome for Non Core. I like seeing what EVERYONE can do to their profiles and seeing what they create to attract friends/viewers/fans on top of showing their personality.
So in some comments, saying all of us Core members say that, is false. I agree with the overall community about more Non Core added features.

Maybe bring back the ability to make proper reports?
The report button on everything isn't bad by any means, but in some cases(like a gallery filled with explicit porn violations), you don't want to view every last image in order to properly report the account.
The tickets helped provide a record of what happened, what was already reported, etc., which made it easier to avoid repeating information.

Making the FAQ pages easier to access (like pinned in that blank space between "become core"  and the profile button/dropdown menu)would also be ideal, as this would help make sure 1: people can actually find and read the rules and 2: obvious violators can't keep using "couldn't find them" as an excuse.
The same could also be said of the bug reports- especially given our long and storied history of them.

Speaking of making parts of the site more accessible, an easier way to get to the requests forum (where people suggest site improvements) would be great, since the last major overhaul of the site that changed the reporting system also completely broke any old links to the place.
Said forum was dominated by the same handful of people before the overhaul made it even harder to reach, and there was no way to report problem users who left spam and/or harassing comments in said forum. This should probably be corrected.

Doing something about the people making 100+ accounts just to cause trouble/steal art would be nice, too.

Finally, please correct the art theft policy back to NOT allowing users to trace other people's work without permission, no matter the circumstance.
No matter how many "creative touches" are added to such a thing, it is still a violation of the original artist's copyright, not to mention uncreative and lazy to boot.
Further, the rest of the policies on copyright and art theft not only run directly counter to that line, but would in fact, count such things as the stolen goods they are, making the tracing exception not only contradictory to the site policy as a whole, but negate it as well.
Furthermore, this exception runs directly counter to actual copyright law, which besides outweighing site rules, you also expect users to follow them as part of those same site rules.
Tracing other's work without permission should never have been allowed in the first place, and continuing to allow it is not only foolhardy, but detrimental to our community, the quality of the galleries, and the site's legal and moral standing as a whole.

Also, "edit deviation" has not been letting me change the main file- it just crashes instead,
This might just be a "me" problem, but looking into that might not be a bad idea.
(I'm sure the submission and edit process could use some improvements regardless.)

I honestly would like to see this in another update. I really miss being able to see the DDs easily as they introduced me to newer artists and I know this probably doesn't sound like much as it says I have only been here for a year, but I made a new account to change my user (Once again something that only core members can do)
I also think that non core accounts should be able to change their users as some people literally only get core for that reason. You can give us a limited amount of changes we can make and leave core with unlimited amounts to change their usernames.

janeartworks Idea that I'm agreeing with
What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?

1. The ability to customize profiles for non-core members as well (yes I know non-core people can use basic html to customize but that still looks pretty bland; I want to be able to add a nice custom background for my profile, the same way core members put nice background on custom boxes)

I know this is something not everyone agrees with but personally I think it should be done by DA. Usually, when non-core people say they want customization, core people respond with "tough luck, u should pay lol" or something along those lines. However, what people don't realize is that the majority of people on deviantart are kids and they are too young to have jobs, therefore, they don't have a salary/money so they can't buy core.

Stay tuned for more, and keep the bug reports and feature requests coming!Change LogThe "add to favorites" panel on deviation pages now allows you to select multiple collections. (Popular request, suggested by @kage-niji, @sa6044, @tanyasimpson, and many others)Bios are now editable!Literature thumbnails now include four lines of preview text. (Suggested by @wynbird, @battlefairies, and many others)On the Daily Deviations page, literature now includes preview text. Various other smaller bug fixes and stability improvementsThe new "add to favorites" panel lets you easily add a deviation to many Collections. (Artwork: hidden view by @umbatman)Literature thumbs — including on the Daily Deviations page — now include preview text.Using the New Bio EditorTry the new Eclipse bio editor! When adding a bio to your Eclipse profile, we'll start you off with your bio from the old site. Please keep in mind that some elements, such as thumbnails, were not able to be transitioned to the new editor, however you can still add them to your bio. We recommend trying the new image and gallery features to share your favorite artwork in your bio. Also note that due to migration issues, bios of deviants who are not on Eclipse are static, meaning if they update them on the old site, the changes will not be reflected on Eclipse until that deviant switches to Eclipse and edits their bio using the new editor. Eclipse Change Log: November 28, 2018

Thank you for your continued feedback and bug reports on DeviantArt Eclipse!

Our team has been working on customization and personalization options and we have brainstorming sessions planned where we’ll be further discussing how you’ll be able to customize and personalize your profile in Eclipse. We’ve been gathering and sorting your feedback, including the top ways you use Custom Box, and we’ll be reviewing it in these brainstorm sessions. We will have more to share soon!

In the meantime, we’re still working on other customization features already in the design stages, including editing your bio and custom cropping of your profile header art. We’ve seen some creative ways people are featuring single deviations on their profile (for example, see @ellysiumn and @katy-l-wood’s profiles), and we’re working on the ability to more-easily feature a single deviation on your profile.

Here’s this week’s change log!

Change Log

Header art quality on profiles has improved. If your header art is blurry, ensure that the original deviation is available as high resolution under “Display Options.” (Thanks, @queen-kitty, @titusweiss, @kaleidechse, @battlefairies, @yuukon, and several others who brought this up!)Fixed issues where typing in a URL in a Journals, comment, or Status Update would display the URL twice.Removed minimum character limit from Status Updates, allowing you to post a Status Update that just includes a deviation, gallery, video, or emoticon. You can now open and close Commissions from the individual Commission page.A “back to top” button added to galleries and browse pages.Badge pages are back! After posting a comment, the browser now scrolls to your comment. The toggle for Mature Content now reads “Show Mature Content” instead of “Mature Content” to prevent confusion. (Thanks for the tip, @rotane and @uszatyarbuz!)Fixed issue where tooltips would not display when hovering over the Add Deviation/Gallery/Video/Emoticon buttons on Comments, Journals, or Status Updates.Fixed issue where the “Send Note” button on profiles would open a new note with no recipient. (Thanks for spotting, @nominee84 and @mrs-durden!)Fixed issue where literature Daily Deviations displayed title twice. (Good catch, @3wyl!)The header image for Commissions is now centered.Updated the design of the “I’m open for commissions” button to make it look more prominent and clickable.Fixed issue where bolded text in comments would appear as a different color but not bold. After clearing out your notifications, the “no notifications here right now” message would be misaligned. (Thanks, @starlighthawk, @ikazon, and @sweetchimera!)Various other smaller bug fixes and changes.

Eclipse Change Log: December 5, 2018

Another week, another change log! Thank you for your continued feedback and bug reports!

Please keep in mind that larger feature requests and issues take additional time to address — but know we are actively working on them. In the meantime, we’ll continue to share these change logs with some of the smaller changes and bug fixes, so that you follow along with the progress of Eclipse.

We’ve also been receiving reports about various issues regarding images, image compression, image URLs, and filenames. DeviantArt recently switched to a new system to serve images and we’re currently looking into the issues that you’ve been reporting.

Change Log

New deviation background presets have been added!GIF avatars are now scaled scaled up properly, preserving their pixelated look without any blurring. Thank you to all those who brought up this issue!Premium Content now has a more prevalent Buy button.Mentions now contain user symbols.Fixed issue where mentions would not work when you simply typed @@username(rather than typing and selecting a username from the list).Thumbnails in Feedback notifications are now clickable.Fixed issue where mentions displayed in green rather than white. The appearance of the search box was fixed when searching from the Notes, Groups, Forums, and various other pages.Prints can now be enabled on new deviations.Fixed issue where, after adding an image or a gallery to a comment, pressing the left or right arrow keys would leave the page rather than move your cursor.Fixed issues where tooltips were cut off behind other elements of the page.Fixed issue where Eclipse would not create URLs properly for Collections with spaces or other non-alphanumeric characters in the title would, causing an error if opened on the old site.Various other smaller bug fixes and visual changes.

Eclipse Change Log: December 12, 2018

This week, nearly the whole DeviantArt team — encompassing staff members from Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Kiev, and Vancouver, to name a few — has come together at our HQ in Hollywood to focus on Eclipse and plan what’s in store for 2019.

As a reminder, we’re continuing to work on the bigger community feedback concerns — including customization and improvements to Feedback — and we hope to share more soon.

Since the holidays are coming up, and many people on our team are traveling or taking time off, we won’t have a change log to share for a short while. But we want to let you all know that we are continuing to review and analyze your feedback, and we look forward to sharing more updates with you early next year!

Change Log

Literature descriptions are back! (Popular request!)After replying to a comment in Feedback, the notification is now automatically removed. (Popular request!)Comment link pages now have "parent" and "top" buttons, and are now centered for easy readability. (Popular request!)Scraps are back! You can now mention a deviant just by typing (rather than selecting them from the list). The Gift dropdown on profile now tells you when you've already given them a llama or they are full of cake. Removed minimum character count in Status Updates and Journals, allowing deviants to share a post that simply includes a deviation, gallery, or video.

What's Next for Eclipse: FeedbackLate last year, we released the beta version of DeviantArt Eclipse – a redesign that puts more emphasis on artists and their art. It’s one of our biggest, most ambitious updates to date, which is why we’ve chosen to open it to Beta Testers as early as we did. Not only do we need Beta Testers’ help locating and squashing those pesky bugs, we want to gain deviants’ feedback, thoughts, and opinions on the current Eclipse experience and what we should include in the future. We’re very proud and excited with the level of collaboration we’ve been able to achieve with the DeviantArt community, and we hope to continue this as we further develop Eclipse. The Beta version of Eclipse has brought many changes (see them here), with even more in store, including ways to customize and personalize Profiles! We Hear You!Since the Beta launch of Eclipse late last year, we’ve received a lot of feedback regarding just that: Feedback. You might have called it a few other names in the past: Feedback, Message Center, Notifications, etc. Let’s establish what Feedback is: it’s comments and replies made on your art, any mentions of you or your art, and correspondence with other deviants and groups. We processed and analyzed your thoughts and opinions on Feedback, and how cumbersome it had become to interact with friends on Eclipse. With that, we’re excited to show you some major updates in the works.Changes We’re Making Based on Your FeedbackNew NavigationYou can now easily access Feedback by clicking on the bell icon next to your avatar, with all the different areas visible for you to filter through. Just a simple click and you can filter to view only your comments or only your mentions.One-Click RemoveA popular request from several Beta Testers! With one, easy click of a mouse you can tidy up Feedback to your exact liking. Multi-Remove & Multi-SaveEnjoy a more seamless process of removing multiple notifications in an efficient manner, or saving some of your favorite Feedback moments.Let Us Know!We understand how important being involved and embedded in the DeviantArt community is, and we hope the updated Feedback helps you connect and communicate more easily. These upcoming updates will be announced in @danlev 's weekly change logs as soon as they are live. Share with us in the comments what you look forward to using in Feedback, as well as anything else you’d like to see improved!Got something else on your mind? Thank You for Your Feedback on Eclipse!

Last week, we announced the Beta launch of DeviantArt Eclipse — a completely redesigned version of DeviantArt that puts more emphasis on artists and their art. As a Beta release, Eclipse is still under development and only available to a small portion of the DeviantArt community. We use the Beta release to gather feedback that allows us to closely analyze deviant engagement and sentiment.

Over 4,000 deviants have already tried Eclipse and many have shared their invaluable and much-appreciated feedback. We’ve received nearly 1,700 individual Eclipse feedback reports — including 407 bug reports, 532 feature requests, and 748 pieces of general commentary. Our team has read through and triaged over 60% of these reports and has a goal of completing all of them in the coming week. Thank you to every deviant who has taken the time to share feedback. Whether you’re someone who provided a few words or several paragraphs of candid response, we appreciate the passion you have for helping us ensure Eclipse will meet the needs of our diverse community.

This Is Just the Beginning of Eclipse

As with most Beta releases, we launched Eclipse knowing there were bugs and highlighted a handful of the most obvious in our release journal. We wanted to release sooner than later so we can begin this journey together – gathering feedback and insights and applying it into our development, fixes, and improvements. Plus, as Beta Testers, this is what you signed up for! We need your deviant-expertise to help identify bugs everything from baby bugs to elusive, exotic bugs.

Based on feedback, it’s clear there are certain areas of Eclipse that are leaps and bounds ahead of the “green site.” It’s also clear there are some things that need to be improved. We expected this and continue to welcome your feedback — the good and the bad. We’re in this together and want to hear from deviants every step of the way.

We're Exploring More Ways To Customize Your Profile

Eclipse provides new ways to personalize your Profile, including the ability to select Header Art for your page, linking to your social media platforms, and stating your commission status. However, with the removal of Custom Box, we heard, loud and clear, that deviants want more options to display content. We’re also in the process of exploring other ways you can customize your Profile. We’ll be sharing tips and varied examples of ways you can really customize Profiles. In the meantime, here’s one example of how @katy-l-wood is testing Eclipse’s current abilities to enhance her Profile.
Many deviants asked for the ability to showcase a single deviation on your profile. This is something we are already working on. We’d also like to clarify that, for the foreseeable future, Custom Boxes within Groups will remain as they are. Groups will eventually be redesigned with Eclipse in mind, but that process won’t be complete for many months. We’ll provide advance notice about any removal of Custom Boxes in Groups.

Addressing Your Other Top Concerns

The new Feedback allows easy viewability of your most recent and unread notifications; however, we’ve seen concerns about Feedback needing improvement as a whole. For example, deviants report it’s cumbersome to remove notifications and it’s hard to remove notifications in bulk. We’ll be making the “remove” button more accessible so that you can one-click remove (or one-click save) just as you could on the “green site.” We’re still reviewing the experience of mass removing feedback and hope to have updates soon.We are currently working on issues regarding Header Art and avatars – specifically, their size and quality. Icon codes and plz accounts will be coming soon to Eclipse. :iconlaplz:The new text editor makes it easy to write Literature, with the option to add formatting and illustrations to your work. That said, the Literature experience in Eclipse is still a work in progress. As we mentioned in the Beta journal, using Literature and journal thumbnails is not yet finished. Literature thumbnails in the sidebar (under “More Like This”) are also not yet finished.Improving the display of Literature thumbnails is something our Product and UX teams are already actively working on improving.Having a “Show More” link on deviation descriptions and comments allows for a cleaner viewing experience; however, based on feedback, we've removed "Show More" from deviation descriptions and comments. While search in Gallery, Favourites, and Journals didn’t make it into the Beta version of Eclipse, it’s our aim to bring this functionality to Eclipse.Several deviants brought up that the ability to include thumbs by pasting a URL (or thumb code) is not currently possible. We mentioned this in the original announcement, but we want to reiterate this is not working as intended and will be implemented in the future.

Of course, this isn’t a complete list. It represents our first step at addressing some of your top concerns and we’ll be sharing more responses and updates — including bug fixes — in the weeks ahead.

Keep it Coming!

In the release process, things are constantly evolving as we gain insights and implement updates. Please keep in mind these updates can take time to get used to. As you continue to explore Eclipse, share your thoughts and concerns through the Eclipse overall feedback or bug report/feature request forms. While we encourage general discussion in the journal comments, using the official form allows us to triage and act on feedback in a quicker, more manageable way.

We also want to give a shout-out to the amazing deviants who’ve produced really thorough Eclipse reviews:

Again, thank you to everyone! With your feedback, we’ve filed numerous bugs and our developers are working on them continually.

What's Next for Eclipse: WatchAs @danlev mentioned in a previous change log, we'll be covering some areas of DeviantArt Eclipse with more in-depth journals. Last week, we kicked off with a journal dedicated to updates that are coming soon to Feedback! This week, one of the essential areas of DeviantArt is Watch. It’s where we go to discover what’s new amongst who we follow, and get inspired by things we’re familiar with and love. We wanted to make sure your Watch experience is just as exciting as your Browse experience, but also as efficient as your Feedback experience. We’ve decided to make the Watch page dedicated solely to Watch – so you’ll no longer see the tabs for “Watch”, “Feedback”, and “Notes”. As soon as you’re on Watch, it’ll be just that – everyone and everything you watch! Here are some related updates we’ll be introducing to you all soon:New NavigationNo more multi-clicks or dropdowns to get to the content you want to see. You’ll now be able to filter your Watch through a sticky header – so whether you want to view Deviations, Group Deviations, Status Updates, Commissions, etc., just one click and you’re there! (Cameo appearances from: @ekud, @cochalita, @aenea-jones, @samanthadoodles, @cassielink, @tanyasimpson, & @mrs-durden!)Multi-Remove & Multi-SaveA popular request from Beta Testers! We’ve improved the experience to remove or save areas you watch by having a sticky remove/save option that follows as you scroll through Deviations, Journals, Polls, etc. (Additional cameo appearances from: @rhads, @sheharzad-arshad, & @kristynakvapilova!)Deviants deserve a flawless browsing experience so they can access the content they love with absolute ease. We hope these changes will help achieve that. These upcoming updates will be announced in @danlev weekly change logs as soon as they are live. Share with us in the comments what you look forward to using in Watch!Got something else on your mind? Let us know:Submit a bug or feature requestSubmit your overall feedback about DeviantArt EclipseSpecial shoutout to the DeviantArt staff involved with these major Watch updates: @tomergr @heidi @roihim @yury-n @noaron @zilla774 @mariiasv @nishnushtlv @chenarbel @thesquidarrives @yumeruby @justgalym @micahgoulart Feel free to thank them via mention, give ‘em a llama, or ask them Watch-related questions!

More from DeviantArt

What's Next for Eclipse: LiteratureOne of the best things about DeviantArt is the incredible communities that have organically grown and supported one another throughout the site. A community that continues to grow in its artistry and passion is the Literature community. It's been hugely important for us to develop Eclipse with the Literature community in mind, and to shine a spotlight on both the writers and readers. There's still a lot we want to do to expand Literature on DeviantArt, but here are some updates we've made, and will be making, in Eclipse:Literature EditorOur new Literature editor provides an expanded and easier experience. You can now bold, italicize, underline text without HTML knowledge, and you can even add corresponding visual imagery or link YouTube videos. Literature ThumbnailsBased on your feedback, Literature thumbnails now include a preview of text so that deviants can get a sneak peek at what words lie in store! We'll also be further adjusting the look of the thumbnails by dimming the opacity of the letter to make it less distracting. Read more about it in one of our past change logs here.Literature Improvements (Coming Soon!)It is vital for text to be visible above the fold so that your art gets the spotlight it deserves, just like visual deviations. Literature text is fully open to be appreciated as a whole, and we also made sure the actions are visible at both the top and bottom of each Literature deviation. This way some deviants can fave and save for later, while others can read through the deviation, and then fave, comment, share after they've finished. The choice is yours! Thank you to the Literature community for being so open and vigilant with their feedback. We want to keep building and strengthening your Eclipse experience. Upcoming updates will be announced in @danlev weekly change logs as soon as they are live. Share with us in the comments how you'll be writing and/or reading Literature in Eclipse!Got something else on your mind?
