Charlotte Moore (Cavatica) from Raleigh, North Carolina has created a PSA against homophobia after the Twitter hashtag #ToMyUnbornChild attracted homophobes to publicly announce that they would murder their child if he or she was gay.

#ToMyUnbornChild became a trending topic on Twitter a few weeks ago, and while most people used it to write loving tweets to their future children, some homophobes decided to do just the opposite.

@Homophobes, a Twitter account that retweets homophobes to expose their ignorance, published an article of 100 extremely homophobic tweets, which gained quite a bit of attention around the web.

Charlotte Moore was inspired, and decided to write and direct a PSA using the tweets. The video was produced by Brian Lee and Nick Heim.

From the video’s description:

I got the idea on a Thursday. By Sunday, we — me, my boyfriend, and whatever friends we could find to help us — had it filmed.

It’s easy to dehumanize hate speech online because we’ve gotten so used to seeing it. We tell ourselves that it’s the product of trolls, of random, anonymous strangers.

Except they’re not. They’re real people. Many of them will be parents. And some of their children will be gay.

The homophobic tweets, which were compiled using Storify, gaining nearly 300,000 views, 4,000 tweets, and thousands of reblogs and likes from our Tumblr post and another Tumblr user. The post was covered by the Huffington PostThe New Civil Rights MovementQueertyTowleroadBuzzfeed,AmericaBLOG, and several other blogs.

Last weekend, @homophobes also published a satirical guide on how to “rid the gay” from your child.

It's good that this is being highlighted.

People are so horrible to each other, I have a kid and I can't imagine anyone could do that.

As much as I disagree with the homosexual lifestyle...I think that killing your child because he or she is gay is just plain wrong and sick.
If my child was gay...I would still love him/her.

What does PSA mean? English is not my first language and I wasn't able to find it out by myself on the Internet.

Public service announcement. Basically, an advertisement to raise awareness about a topic.

Thank you, you're the second one to inform me. There are just too many meanings for 'PSA' in both English and Spanish...

public service annoucement.

I see. Thank you, the Internet gave me too many meanings and none of them made too much sense ^^;

I cried reading those tweets...I just don't understand why they think that way.

What assholes these homophobic fucktards all are. Other Christian religions have gay scandals too--just not as well-heard of. But yeah, the religious hatemongers are all pretty bad, on a scale of 1 - 10, they're about an 11. And the ones who preach hate the loudest are usually the ones that are the deepest in the closet--they eventually get caught with their pants around their knees with a 15-year old giving them a blow job at some cheap-ass motel in a bad neighborhood. Hypocrites. Those tweets---I can't even believe they're real. SICK. It's bad enough they feel that way about gays anyway, but to say that about their own kid----shit. Someone needs to put them out of our misery...
See how much good 1 or 2 people can do!

this is just sick. these people don't deserve to become parents. in fact, they should just go to a fucking insane asylum right now to keep them from murdering currently living gay people :X

As a Christian, I think it's horrible that anyone would think of hating--even killing--their own child because of sexual orientation. Even saying those words and thinking those thoughts is horrible enough. :(

Gah! Sometimes, humanity makes me homophobia-phobic. It's just so saddening to see these disturbing flaws in people despite everything we accomplished.

Welcome to humanity. Can I stir you up a cup of conflict?

This is just...sick :( I don't know what to say... No parent should act like this to their child, no matter what!

I'm homophobe and i think that it's gross.

Yes, i admit that i don't like gay people but i wouldn't kill my child if it happens to be gay or bi.

Why don't you like gay people?

I'll try to summarize reasons why i don't like them:
1)They are unsettling. The way the act and the way they talk, in some cases the way they look. All together it gives a slight feeling of that something is not quite right here but at the same time i can't say what's wrong with seemingly normal people. In the best case it's odd, in the worst rather chilling.
2) What's their purpose from evolutionary point of view? That's the question no-one can answer. In the light of this, fact that they are trying to prove that being gay is something normal looks much like an attempt of a schizophrenic person to prove that they are normal when they aren't. Honestly, not only it looks pathetic, but also makes people suspect the otherwise.
3) They are annoying. If they want other people to see them in the good light, they should do something good instead of running around with their multicoloured flags screaming about how our government doesn't let them make a parade on every city's main street. Seems like they don't really understand that gay parades wouldn't give them more "points" in the eyes of their heterosexual co-citizens, especially those who own cars. This makes me facepalm forever.
4) why am i supposed to like them anyway?

In case if you wonder: no, i don't think that being gay is a sin.

Anything else?

Wow, I was not expecting a response like that. I'm going to guess that you're just trolling, but if not, I hope that some day you'll realize how ignorant you are.

He said as his ignorance made him unable to accept different views.

For an admin posting this, I am disappointed.
You DO realize that people CAN have views that aren't either normal or supported or even sensitive without being a troll right?

I don't even agree with them, and I think their position is the product of something that is wrong itself; but the way you're talking to them as if they are NOT a person who should be just as much respected as any other is just as bad as the opinions they displayed in the first place.
danlev's avatar
I didn't talk to her as if she's not a person, I just told her that she's ignorant for having such a view on a group of people. Saying that they're "unsettling" "annoying" and questioning their purpose seems a bit like trolling to me -- especially in a thread filled with pro-LGBT people. =p
UnexploredFrontiers's avatar
I guess people just don't know weither or not to stop trolling
or lying, with this one it's hard to tell.

Thank you for setting her straight before I had the chance too.

( Sorry I'm on a roleplay account. too lazy to switch u v u )
