I have a dream, that one day deviantART will care about how the community reacted to their damn update...
u-fos Featured By Owner Nov 12, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
i don't think they'll ever care tbh because they have their heads shoved so far up their asses

like i bet they'll update it and make it even worse than it literally already is

With so much feedback I decided to start a poll, a simple YES or NO Vote…
Val-Mont Featured By Owner Nov 7, 2014  Professional Photographer
sorry but the new bright green submit button is extremly dominating the header, it´s really boring. It always distracts the attention from the pictures I´m trying to watch. I waited some days just to find out if it will become more comfortable, but it won´t.  Please change the colour to a more decent version. If I need the button, I don´t need a signal colour to find it :). Often I surfed for 30 Minutes or more over DA, but since the change in the header I stopped surfing because of this boring flashy button exactly on top of the pictures. Please chance that!
Thanks, and thanks for your great community!

You serve a niche.  You need to accommodate that niche or someone else will.  If you continue to transform into facebook you will only start competing with them and lose. Not only that you will lose your niche. In other words if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I like the new deviant art for the PC, but... I cant login on my PSP due to "psp ssl handshake error" and my 3DS ends up with "failed to load image". My 3DS also refuses to load certain features and it's really irritating me. I rarely use my main computer to go on deviantart (due to personal issues) and now i can't properly use this site on either. What are us PSP and 3DS users supposed to do?

At first I was like many, Angry at some of the features, then I realized change was inevitable, so my feelings turned to disenchantment, There was a time when DA was a tab on my home page, it has been removed as I do not visit ten times a day anymore, I found it is now maybe once a day and I don’t even bother to log in, once it was set to “remember me”, now it has turned to a casual indifference, the familiarity that was once my escape from the norm, has now become the norm, no longer unique, no longer exclusive from the social sites that so many have wrapped their entire lives around…

I realize that you need to be so much to so many, interestingly some of the terms that are utilized in the cyber world, in some people’s lives the word is “Feed” in my world and the world of most of my associates it is referred to as “Rams” which is humorous that it also rhymes with “Spam” from the perspective of some that is initially what it is, KUDOS to the staff for making it an option that can be easily disabled, as well as disabling it with the feature on collections, I do not feel it is my prerogative to force my art choices  on others, Thank You…

The removal of the previews at the bottom of the page was incredibly beneficial despite the fact that less art will be randomly noticed, mine was once set to Daily Deviations, then I realized they were in fact merely what was once referred to as the “Editor’s Pick”, essentially admin’s favorites, of course they were, it's their site not ours, then I switched it to “Popular” then I found myself basically ignoring it, so that was a welcome change considering it was taking up valuable space.

Regarding the placement of the notifications tab on the right side, I am oblivious as to the logic behind this modification, I found myself wondering if it was the creation of a left handed individual, many have expressed a dislike for this, some even designed a script to move it back to center, the part I found amusing is the fact that no one has actually expressed the reason as to why it is unnatural, although your intentions are (and misbeliefs) that everyone is now utilizing a mobile device and with a touch screen who cares where the buttons are, unfortunately with a  computer mouse it is an unnatural maneuver to twist your hand to the far right, unless of course you are left handed.

Mobile devices are incredible, however the statistics also indicate that the end user is not spending as much time on any one specific site, they are performing quick checks on several sites and not utilizing their units for anything that would require exclusivity to one, the misconception that the world will abandon the bulky PC and completely switch to mobile devices overnight is ridiculous, Microsoft assumed this would be the case with the release of Windows 8, and now look what happened to them.

The sales of “Pads” is declining, particularly due to the enhancements of smart phones, the reason sales were so robust is due to misconception that they would be everything your desktop computer is and more, however I also noticed that the majority still have a desk, still have a PC and still spend quality time at it surfing, primarily because it is comfortable and both my hands are able to function because I am not continuously holding a device in one, unless "I" am mobile, my experiences are not well suited for mobile.

Endless scrolling, unbelievably annoying for the one particular fact that once you are in deep there is no logical way to get back to the top, I found myself utilizing a button on my keyboard that I forgot was there due to lack of usage “Home”, simply put if you make the top bar a fixed entity, then it will always be there for the end user to quickly switch to another aspect of the site, and will see the updates of notifications in “Real Time”, once I found myself several views below the top, it was ultimately easier to click my main unit favorites to get back to my home page, so often since I was looking at my favorites anyway, I switched to a different site completely, generally one that was less obtrusive to navigate.

This is probably the last comment I will make regarding the “New Site”

The staff at DA are incredible and I will give credit where it is due, however the site is evolving away from what it once represented, perhaps the times dictate it needed to become mainstream, perhaps the amount of time I spent here was even holding me hostage to the infinite possibilities.

With so many options to choose from, why would individuals merely complain that their lives have been disrupted to the point where they truly believe this recent iteration will drastically alter their conception of reality, you have always allowed the premium member the ability to customize their experience on DA, they just have to explore the options available to them, if it has in fact become a burden, then perhaps it is time to re-evaluate themselves, it is only one site, like all artist’s, evolution and the reinvention of one’s self is an essential to self-improvement, exploration is the key, and the world as we know it is only a keystroke away…

How can one search for GROUPS now???
Immerot Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
You mean the Groups-page? Use the Stick menu - the link is still there (Settings - Browsing - General Browsing - Navigation line).
Aguirre-el-Loco Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2014
what is a stick menu?
Immerot Featured By Owner Edited Oct 26, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
The additional bar below the header instead of "More" button. It looks like this
Skarlet-kitten Featured By Owner Oct 29, 2014  Hobbyist
thanks for the explanation and the image. The stick menu is more comfortable while browsing
Immerot Featured By Owner Edited Oct 29, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yeah. I used it with previous version of dA also, though I never thought that some day it'll become the "life ring" for some users.
Skarlet-kitten Featured By Owner Oct 29, 2014  Hobbyist
Nice said, but I don't know how long I will last before I will be drown in the new appearance of dev. In the past I used to check deviantart nearly on daily basis sometimes without being logged in just to see some new artwork, daily devs and such or search for specific artwork or tutorials. But now it leads me to today page and I close the tab even before looking. I rather forced myself today to look through the whole page and to check my messages that piled up over the weeks. So I stumbled over this journal and scrolled through the comments and found your explanation. I must admit that the familiar symbols ease my mind when I look at the top of the page where the most useful functions are banned in some corner. Yeah, I know that hundreds of users complained over the same problems but I agree with at least 95% of it. The image and information flood with this endless scroll feature feel like - another user described it already as - "hitting an information wall" (or something like this).
I just wanted to give you a short response and now I wrote all this. If I'm visiting this page sometimes in the future I will definitely use the tick menu 'cause it assembles all the necessary features where I can easily find it.
Vielen Dank und einen schönen Tag noch
Immerot Featured By Owner Edited Oct 29, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
You can just change the Today page to something more familiar - the Browse page, for example. The system will memorize which of these pages (Today, DDs, Browse, What's Hot etc.) you visited for the last time, and next time you click the dA logo it'll redirect you to the page you chose. Also Browse page allows you to use the "page by page" mode instead of endless scrolling (ckeck the button with the gear icon at the right bottom corner of the page).

I don't think the new version is very good. It could have been worse, but it looks like some features are similar to those from social media sites (especially the status update tool). What was wrong with the old version? Don't try to fix something that isn't broken.

Also, here's the definition of deviant from
de·vi·ant  (dv-nt)
Differing from a norm or from the accepted standards of a society.
One that differs from a norm, especially a person whose behavior and attitudes differ from accepted social standards.

The site update seems to make deviantart more like the norm than a fun, unique website.

((DA gets like any other social media, huh? I know, I can't change anything and I won't leave but I hate having to re-orientate...))

((really, i was glad that DA wasn't like Instagram and stuff, but now, they get too similar. Has Facebook bought DA now or what?))

if only they had bought it, that meant devaint staff wasn't run by a bunch of assholes who don't listen to their users.
lumirah Featured By Owner Oct 24, 2014  Hobbyist
I see that you have been spending a long time creating this new layout, but all that was waste of time. The old layout was already brilliant, no need for changing.
Shadoweddancer Featured By Owner Oct 24, 2014   General Artist
All this garbage you have added has made the site so slow I can barely upload anything.  Half the time it times out and I have to start all over again... and it's not MY computer because I don't have that problem anywhere else.  I thought the purpose of DA was to help us promote and sell our art.  That doesn't seem to be much of a priority anymore.  By this time last year you were promoting calendars and giving us discounts on our own prints with Christmas in mind.  Now you are patting yourself on the backs for being so clever about making this into "Art Book".   I didn't pay good money for this, or have you forgotten, unlike FB and twitter, some of us are paying customers.

Nice going DA, now I'll have to find some place else that will actually make ART the priority.  If I wanted this three ring media circus I'd just promote my art on FB
I have seen very few good comments on these comment pages, and I'm hearing all kinds of dislike from other beta testers.  So much for your "engaging in community conversations".  Lot's of beta testers have complained about all these new features being added at once and were mostly ignored.  You're going to shove all this useless junk down our throats and eventually you will go the way of My Space.  I have noticed that many of the serious professional artists and photographers that I watch have stopped uploading new material.  I guess you haven't, since you have been too busy revamping a site that didn't need to be changed so radically.
HandmadEverything Featured By Owner Oct 24, 2014  Professional Artisan Crafter
I think i'll just stop using DA
I already have a twitter and a Facebook. I don't need another one -___-
This update is hideous, the least you could do is let us move that stupid long news feed to the opposite side of the page. You know, the side that doesn't have a equally long comment section!

I have been a long time supporter of DA (this is actually my 3rd account- strictly for business) and I stuck it out through all the changes but this one is to much for me.
I can't take it any more. The community has told you countless times that we don't want a site like Facebook and twitter and you basically ignored us and did exactly that.
So, i'm done.

I'm not going to lie. I really dislike this new design.
Way to jump on the social media bandwagon, DA.

This site's changed a lot over the years, but not for the better, in my opinion.

How about changing the damn site colors?! It's way past due for a change! The neutral color scheme is wholly depressing.
SlushyPanda Featured By Owner Feb 2, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I personally like the colors
lucky7number7seven7 Featured By Owner Oct 24, 2014
It's not just the heading.

It's the fact that Deviantart is trying WAY to hard to be something that it's not. If I wanted newsfeed and status updates, I would join Facebook or Tumblr. Plus, with all of the features, 97% of publicity will go to the featured artists.

And I reiterate:  If I wanted to read two sentence blurbs about the crap in people's lives, I would join Twitter.

As well, with all of the new blown up proportions, it just looks clumsy and awkward.
And as for the #'s.  . .  so . . many . . f*cking . . hashtags . . . It's making Deviantart look like the visual equivalent of Let Me Take A Selfie. StareSword
CarlHolden Featured By Owner Oct 24, 2014  Professional Digital Artist
Seeing the #tag appear when tagging was a nice touch,  at least I know they're working. New layouts works better across platforms, more so on small screens. Subheader makes navigation a tad easier than scrolling all the way down the front page. Thanks for those.

Couldn't care less what my watchers are faving or watching, glad its a tab I never have to look at.
Also glad I could disable my own activity feed- why would anyone want to see multiple itterations of what i've posted, commented on or faved. Makes a mess of users front pages.
Didn't really need to see people #tag above pieces. The more from deviantart feature does that job if images are tagged and catagorised by the artist.
fdfxd2 Featured By Owner Oct 24, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I like the new layout.
offermoord Featured By Owner Oct 23, 2014
OK. not gonna complain about the new lay-out, I didn't like the old one either, but why should I care...
What does bother me is sending links, why can I not send a link without making it a thumb? That's ridiculous.
When I wanna send a link to, lets say my journal, I don't want people to get a thumb of the whole damn journal.
It was already possible to send thumbs ,or just send an url, making it mandatory is just a step back.
Another thing, the new tag system, when it's public what tags you've added, it's just no fun.. the separate words,
hashtag thing is annoying also... I could complain some more, but everyone is, and I'm afraid it will all be in vain. :( (Sad)
Linedrop Featured By Owner Edited Oct 23, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I only saw the old layout for three hours, and I like it better . . .

Also, how do I change the Email that Is linked to this account?

(Live deleted my account, because I didn't log on for three days after I made the account, and all accounts that go inactive for ten days straight right after being made are deleted. The internet seems as though it wants nothing to do with me sometimes . . .)
Matthew-Fuller Featured By Owner Oct 23, 2014  Hobbyist Photographer
I noticed that there have been more and more Fave Bots lately on deviant art....It kinda sucks not having anyone who is really in to art on a art site anymore~~
Solar-Paragon Featured By Owner Oct 23, 2014  Professional Digital Artist
This is total garbage.
Navigation is defunct, I'm seeing streams of useless trash, and I could literally care less about who adds what to their collections.

Also the Today page is buggier than an ant colony.
deactivated-zorbitas Featured By Owner Oct 23, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Hate this. I'ts like Twitter u-ú... "Closer to the community"? Closer to the feedback-spam.
Ardate Featured By Owner Oct 23, 2014  Student Filmographer
You really don't give a damn about our feedbacks, do you?
Namyi Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
They really don't and I even managed to send a message to a real staff member, got the same crap answer that they're trying to shove down our throats.
"Da is great we did such a good job".

The popular people get more attention than they already have, more porn everywhere and the small artists get even less exposure.
Everything is fucking slow, the damn stupid tabs and don't get me started on the tags....
But will they ever listen? Nope because the Da staff members all have a god complex stuck so deeply up their ass that it's impossible to get anything through >:C
u-fos Featured By Owner Nov 12, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
gosh i couldnt agree more i literally cringed when i signed up for this site like ive been on here since 2009 and just seeing how shitty it is now is h orrible
Namyi Featured By Owner Nov 17, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
Yeah it's just a huge let down, and the fact that they didn't care one bit about what we users have to say makes it that much more disappointing :C
I miss the old Da, I have seen this website go from a glorious time where the community was talkative, helpful and fun, to a website where only the popular artists get attention.
The community changed, people keep more to themselves and it's a shame there was a time when I logged in every day and engaged the community and my watchers.

Oh well... not much we can do about it when the staff doesn't care..
u-fos Featured By Owner Nov 20, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
yeah, i had a lot more people talk to me compared to now. i didnt feel singled out with my art and more of the smaller artists were noticed compared to now. like on the front page all it is is top artists, so you have to be 'amazing' to get to the front page and i hate that
