Redesigned Tag Pages

The design of tag pages has been uplifted in Eclipse, featuring a cleaner design that puts more emphasis on the art itself.

Change Logs Moving Forward

Up until today, we’ve been releasing updates to Eclipse once a week. Starting today, we are moving to continuous development cycle on Eclipse, meaning we will be releasing changes more frequently throughout the week rather than once a week. The change logs will still be posted once a week, but they will now be a recap of the past week’s changes.

Change Log

  • Fixed issue where comments would sometimes appear duplicated if you clicked “load more” after new comments were added.
  • Infinite loading now loads more content before you reach the end of the page, making the loading smoother.
  • Fixed issue where you couldn’t edit forum comments from the comment permalink page.
  • When adding deviations to your comment or journal, the search icon now behaves as a submit button.
  • Fixed issue where folders would not tell you when you’ve reached the description character limit.
  • Fixed issues where some galleries would appear as empty in some rare circumstances. (Thanks for reporting, @beavotron)
  • On your own comments, the delete option now appears under the dropdown instead of under the comment.
  • Fixed bug where comment likes would not appear until refreshing the page.
  • Fixed issue where a code name would appear rather than the text “comments are disabled” on deviation pages with disabled comments.
  • Comment count on profile header displayed comments received rather than comments given. (Thanks for pointing out, @rotane)
  • When creating a poll, deleting a poll option would also remove all choices below it.
  • A faint line would sometimes appears under the title of literature and journal thumbs in status updates.

Keep Sharing Your Feedback!

In addition to these updates and bug fixes are smaller improvements we’ve made as we continue to develop larger features in Eclipse.
Follow these steps to share your feedback:
  1. Switch to DeviantArt Eclipse
  2. Hover over your avatar
  3. Select “Give Your Feedback” to access our official form

In this week's change log, we've updated literature pages — a popular request from the community — as well as a handful of bug fixes and improvements. Stay tuned for more, and keep the bug reports and feature requests coming!
Cosmic transformation

Improved Literature Deviation Page Design

Another popular request from the community was to improve the design of literature deviation pages and put the actual writing front and center. Thanks to @battlefairies, @jcoolarts, @thebigeasy66, @queen-kitty, and the many others who shared their feedback on literature!

Change Log

  • Ability to submit a Journal to a Group has been added! Click the “New Journal” button on a Group’s Journal tab to submit directly to that Group.
  • You can now edit older literature deviations in Eclipse. (Thanks for pointing out, @dc-26 and @littlekhajiit!)
  • The Daily Deviation page now includes three days by default (instead of two), with a "show more" button at the bottom.
  • While using browse or search, your previously selected sort mode will be preserved when you switch back and forth between Status Updates, Polls, and Commissions.
  • After clicking a deviation from browse or search then clicking the back button, you'll now return to the correct position in the results rather than the beginning.
  • When a deviant gives you Points, the notifications dropdown would display "[deviant] gave you..." without including the amount of Points given.
  • Eclipse journals would be cut off on smaller screens on the old site.
  • Clicking “View Log” on a Group admin notification would link to an error page.
  • On Feedback, the timestamp on comments and replies now links to the comment’s permalink page so you can see the full context of a conversation.
  • When italicizing, bolding, or underlining a heading, the headline would break onto multiple lines
  • Timestamps on Feedback notifications are now clearer. (A notification from 3 months ago now displays as the actual date rather than “3m” which could also be confused as 3 minutes ago.)
  • Daily Deviations page now includes a “Back to Top” button.
  • The account reactivation page (restoring your account after deactivating it) has been moved to Settings rather than your profile page. This fixes an issue were deviants would need to switch back to the old site to reactivate if they deactivated while in Eclipse. This change is now live on the old site as well.
  • Deviation descriptions that were made from the old site now properly preserve formatting on Eclipse.
  • Fixed issue where mature content would be visible in Polls, Status Updates, Drafts and a few other places, even if your mature content filter was on.
  • Fixed issues where font sizes would sometimes be smaller in some comments.

New Profile URLs

Wed Jun 27, 2018, 11:36 AM by danlev:icondanlev:
DeviantArt is constantly evaluating better ways to serve our community, from new features to smaller updates and bug fixes. Today, we're making a change to the format of profile URLs that will have a positive impact moving forward. In order to better serve you, we’re changing profile URLs from to

Don't worry, your old URLs will still work, and you can continue to use them. Your old links/URLs will always redirect to your new ones.

We know a lot of deviants are attached to their URLs, so the decision to make this change was not done lightly. Part of the decision-making process involved surveying active deviants, and we discovered the overall sentiment was fairly neutral. Most people did not strongly prefer one or the other — as long as old URLs redirected. But, most importantly, we believe this change will be beneficial for you.

Why Changing URLs Is for the Better

  • The new URLs will likely increase your traffic: Based on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts we’ve consulted with and also other sites that have made the switch, moving away from subdomains is likely to increase overall site traffic from search engines—this means more traffic to your Profiles and deviations.

  • Subdomains cause many technical challenges, inhibiting site improvement and performance. Browsers treat subdomains like different, individual sites for security reasons and, because of this, more and more website functionality is being limited to working with a single domain. Working around these restrictions makes building new features and maintaining old ones complicated, increasing the time it takes our engineers to complete projects. It also creates “buggy” circumstances while navigating the site. For example, you might have noticed that it sometimes shows the wrong artist’s name in the URL when using the “next” and “previous” buttons while browsing artwork in someone’s galleries — this is a technical limitation that is imposed by browsers for security reasons and was not possible to work around until now.

More Updates To Come!

This is a small update ahead of some major improvements we'll be making to profile and other areas of the site. You'll be hearing more in the coming months!

  1. What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?
  2. Which part of your profile are you most proud of?

I'm really sad that you guys haven't given any response to our concerns that Eclipse is impossible for some disabled users to use due to the high contrast displays being the only viewing option. If you don't address this I won't be able to use deviantArt once you phase out the old website. Like millions of other people in the world I have chronic migraine which means that looking at Eclipse for longer than a few minutes makes my migraines worse. :( Why don't you acknowledge this? The current silence gives off the impression that you and the other staff don't care about disabled users.

I still do not like eclipse.. [Lulu Emote] Sad

I would like it if the switch button stays and becomes available to all old and new users to the site. I sadly have thought about no longer buying/using core on this site if I am forced to use eclipse.

I got premium/core because I liked to fix up my page and I like how my page looks, but if I no longer can fix it up to express myself as an artist, what use is the front page????

This is suppose to be an art expressince to people, not a place to make a business off.
Beginners come here, and experts , but soon both groups may start to leave.

Please explain why you won't do an opt out option. It's not hard just say why. I just want to know why and if it's possible in the future to have one. I really like my page and I'm not crazy about Eclipse. I'm sorry. Feedback forms aren't helping.
I apologize for bringing it up but I keep asking and all I'm getting is the runaround and insulted for not liking Eclipse and it's getting tiring.
Please just explain.

It's really sad that the staff won't listen to even the negative feedbacks.
They just keep doing this and ignore us, - THEIR COMMUNITY.

Sad move, staff, sad move.

danlev Featured By Owner Apr 18, 2019
That makes me sad to hear. :(
We spend hours of each day reading and responding to feedback. We have five team members who have spent dozens of hours over the past few months just reading and categorizing all of the feedback and bug reports that are coming in, and then passing the feedback off to the design/engineering teams to improve.
Remember that it takes time to analyze, plan, design, implement, test, and launch these changes, so the changes can't always happen overnight.

what part of "make it optional" dont you understand?
savagebinn Featured By Owner Apr 19, 2019   General Artist
I'd venture to say that most folks understand it isn't an instant process and don't expect it to be. The issue is that you keep updating on minor things, while major concerns of the community are not being addressed, remedied, or in some cases even acknowledged, such as the missing galleries. hmm
danlev Featured By Owner Apr 19, 2019
We've made a number of major updates based on user feedback, like adding custom boxes, featured deviations. mass-removing and multi-selecting notifications, reducing thumbnail sizes. These changes all took a while to do, and are also working on popular requests, like gallery/favs search and gallery subfolders, but these are bigger projects and take longer. It might appear as though we are only working on smaller changes, but there are a lot of small bugs and changes that we are constantly fixing, and we can do those quickly and more frequently while the rest of the team is working on the bigger updates.

Listen to what the users tell you. If you keep forcing Eclipse
on everyone, the majority of this website’s users are going to quit and whatever money the staff team makes off of this website will probably decrease greatly. Some users
make money off of this website through commisions and other forms, so not only will this cause many people to quit dA, many people may have to try and find a whole other way to make money from their art. The least you could do is give everyone the option to switch to Eclipse.

adress the negative feedback
EmerWarriorDeer Featured By Owner Apr 15, 2019
Hi, look I really cannot stand Eclipse, it really isn't good for people with sensitive eyes, like myself. What's worse is in Eclipse the birthdays sections is gone so are the notices, the menus are all messed up, the feedback systems all messed up I don't like it at all. Yes, it's a work in progress but still, nobody asked for this, please listen to your consumers!!
