Approximately a 140-degree view
After living for 22 years in humid Louisiana and Florida, I moved to Texas for my masters degree. At first, Texas seemed to be too landlocked and too dry and seemed to have too many open spaces. The area grew on me over the next three years, and now I like views like this one. San Marcos is a small town with lots of people concentrated in a small area. The upside is that it doesn't take long to reach the surrounding countryside.
To the south, farms and ranches spread across the hills. I was standing in the parking lot of a convention center/hotel on I-3, on the border between the urban edge of the city and a rural part of the Hill Country, when I took this photo.
