A Poor Man's Christmas
This is a bit of general fiction. None of my characters are here.

In a certain city there lived a certain man who, throughout his long life, had served his country and assisted those in need. He fought in several wars, enlisting even after most his age were fine with a simple job or retirement; he gave to charities, donated toys, and did more things for the world than I could possibly list.He also had a wife, who in turn had two children, although they had only been married for a year. The woman had been growing progressively more frustrated at her husband, partly due to ...

The Grand Eulogy
My father passed away two years ago at the age of 60, and I wrote this the next day in an attempt to get out my feelings the only way I could figure how -- by using the characters I created. Unfortunately, such a choice also meant my having to face someone I based so heavily on him. Perhaps I made the choice specifically to deal with him, I'm not sure. The things that follow this...prologue, I guess...are exactly as I wrote them that day, including the title, although I added a description of said Phil-based character. Blue Rain
Blue rain drops upon
my uncovered head...I walk amongst the
aqua droplets a depressed
man, for one of my comrades
betrayed me to our enemy...I fled, staying with a
comrade far away, but
once every month the
storm that drenched me
that horrid night returns...And every Midnight I
walk between the droplets,
recalling the day...My face turns to one of
anger, for that man remains
alive, ever taunting me..."One day, he shall meet his end...
and it shall be through me."

I looked out from my apartment, still as clean as before this mess began, at a world which had changed so much in 40 years. I was 62 then -- never had a wife, never had any kids. The TV set blared behind me with some crackling signal... "And they are telling all residents that, according to their inside agents, the next attack will wipe out the entire state of California. They are urging residents to leave the state immediately ."I tugged at my drab, blue, wool-esque scarf, recalling that memory as my mother (now 97) stood next to me. That was in 2014, shortly after the war began. The first attack set off Hawaii's volcanoes, causing everyo...

The Reason Why, Part 1: Reasons
The woman sighed, looking at the young girl who so calmly asked the question. "Because, little one, there are some in this world who are not.....not right ......and cannot listen to those who know what is best for them. These nasty beings decide to hurt others to get their way...including, quite sadly, the most innocent of children."She paused, somewhat uncomfortably. "It....is very complicated, I'm afraid. But that is not the problem. The problem is that they have more on their side than we......myself and my friends......thought."The woman sighed and, after brief glances around her, pulled up her left arm. "Sector 6G cleared", she spoke...
